What you probably can’t see clearly on this picture is the remains of a beautiful little rope fence, made entirely independently by 2 children in our after school club. They made this fence several weeks ago, to protect a precious little patch of wild garlic they had found growing there, and they have regularly gone to check on their patch and watched in wonder as buds unfurled and gave way to beautiful white flowers. The leaves have been carefully foraged to make garlic butter and pesto. 🌱
What you may also not be able to see clearly is the garlic plants that have now been trampled and squashed, and the flower heads and handfuls of leaves that have been plucked and abandoned, presumably by the same people who destroyed the fence🥺
This is just one example of the damage thst had been done to our site over the long weekend; presumably by children playing there without any regard for leaving the space as they found it.
Snapped cooking sticks, crushed buckets, messed up mud kitchen, logs slung about and items removed from cupboards and storage boxes….all this makes me feel so sad for the children who have worked hard to develop this space for everybody to enjoy😢
Needless to say we will put it all back together again and keep it lovely until the next time, and the next💪
