MATCH REPORT
Neath 2β2 Gwendda
Gwendda secured a hard-fought and thoroughly deserved 2β2 draw against a strong Neath side in an entertaining and dramatic encounter.
The visitors faced disruption before the match had even begun, with a quarter of the team arriving at the wrong hockey pitch, resulting in a limited warm-up and only one substitute available. π«£ Despite this, Gwendda started brightly, applying early pressure down both flanks and taking the game to their hosts.
Just before the end of the first quarter, Neath took the lead through a short-corner goal. However, the setback only served to galvanise Gwendda, who responded immediately. Jaf drove into space down the right-hand side, carried the ball into the D and delivered a perfectly weighted pass across goal for Carly, who calmly slotted home the equaliser.π
As the match progressed, Gwendda had to withstand sustained periods of Neath pressure. Rich produced a series of outstanding saves, displaying ninja-like agility in goal to keep the scores level and frustrate the home side.
Neath eventually found a way through again in the third quarter to restore their advantage. Gwendda continued to battle and created opportunities of their own but looked set to leave empty-handed as time ticked away.
With only seconds remaining, Gwendda were awarded a free hit just outside the Neath D. Loading the D with players, they worked the ball cleverly through a series of quick passes. The ball eventually fell to Carly, who smashed home her second goal of the match and Gwenddaβs equaliser. π₯
Moments later, the final whistle blew, sparking celebrations among the travelling side. Given the pre-match challenges and the quality of the opposition, this was a fantastic result and a testament to Gwenddaβs resilience, determination and team spirit. πππ
