We are delighted that Snowsport Wales have decided to use the venue for some National events, and were extremely pleased with the positive feedback received from other clubs about our lovely venue, following the Champery slalom and Excel event held recently. Like many clubs the club has gone through many change over the years. The club started life as the Swansea Nomads, training on a slope in Swa
nsea that sadly no longer exists. Training then moved to Pembrey, and as a result members are now drawn from a much wider area of West Wales than just Swansea itself and so in 2012 the club's name was changed to West Wales Ski Club to reflect the wider area from which members are now drawn.
2016 was a year of very big change within the club, with the retirement of our two very long standing coaches. Both Phil Cobley and Ian Bengeyfield had coached for the club for many many years, and the club is very grateful to them for their many years of service, and wish them both well on their retirement form ski coaching! But as one door closed another opened , and we were delighted to welcome two new coaches to the club, to join Sally Hodson. Chris Mountfield is an ex member of Swansea Nomads, and a former member of the Welsh Ski Team. He brought with him a huge amount of enthusiasm and personal experience of ski racing, We were also being joined by Nick Roe, who is also a former member of the Swansea Nomads, and has previously coached at Torfaen Ski Club. Nick is a level 2 Performance coach. We are delighted with the new structure that the new coaching team has brought to the club, with members working on skills and drills, as well as basic fitness for skiing. Although the club is small in terms of numbers, we are extremely welcoming and friendly and are always keen to see new faces. We are also very proud of the achievements of our members, which we aim to highlight in our pages.
