She’s at it again!

REPORT & INTERVIEW: On a rare outing over 50 miles, John Routledge (GTR Return to Life p/b Streamline) set a personal best and took victory by 21 seconds in the North Tyneside Riders CC 50, while Joanne Rea (Team Kirkley Cycles) was a convincing winner of the women’s event.
Meanwhile, in-form Alexander Storey (GS Metro) added another win to his collection in the road bike category.
The M50 saw competitors start near Cramlington before heading out and back along the A1068 to Amble.
After climbing back up to Cramlington approaching the 40-mile mark competitors headed back down to Bedlington and then climbing back towards the finish.
Routledge, from Morpeth, was tipped by Spindata to take the victory after winning the Team VC 13-mile event earlier this month.
The 42-year-old previously had a 50-mile personal best of 1-50-07 and bettered that time by over two minutes on this occasion.
Fellow veteran Kris Whitelaw (Vector Racing) led the battle behind finishing second in 1-48-14, while Philip Kennell (GS Metro) placed third (1-49-15).
“It was good conditions and not as hot as I thought it might be,” said Routledge.
“It’s quite a technical course with 26 roundabouts which take some navigating, but it’s quite flat and fast.
“I paced it quite well and hit the targets that I aimed for. I haven’t done that course before and haven’t done a 50 for two or three years, so I wasn’t sure how I’d go.
“There’s no more 50-mile events in the North East this season, but a 100 in September.”
In the women’s event, pre-race favourite Joanne Rea (Team Kirkley Cycles) took a clear victory in a time of 2-04-10.
Rea also took victory in her two other open outings this season and made it three from three on this occasion.
A close battle for second saw Claire Cook (South Shields Velo Cycling Club) stop the clock in 2-09-07 which was 35 seconds faster than Louise Burnie (Blaydon Cycle Club) (2-09-42).
In the road bike category Storey took his fifth category victory of the season after recording a time of 1-53-29.
Second in the category was Simon Crisp (Gosforth Road Club (cycling)) in 1-57-50, while Hugo Storey (Muckle CC) placed third (1-58-46).
The only woman in the road bike category was Sarah Wann (EMC Cycling) who covered the course in a time of 2-19-01.

PREVIEWS: Riders looking for an early season test will be heading to the North East this weekend for the Barnesbury Cycling Club hilly event over 21 miles.

Set in the Northumberland countryside the course is a challenging one with high speed descents and some challenging road surfaces.
Team Kirkley Cyclesey Cycles come into the event with a two-pronged attack with Spindata predicting that Lewis Wake is favourite ahead of team-mate Adam Smith.

Wake won eight open events last season and opened his winning account for 2024 at the Border City Wheelers Cycling Club hilly 13.5-mile event last month.
But they could face competition from GS Metro with veteran Philip Kennell in the time trial event and Alexander Storey in the road bike category.
The women’s competition sees veterans Louise Burnie (Blaydon Cycle Club) and Adele McAleer (Team VC) take on junior Freya Johnson (Gosforth RC).
VTTA Midlands are organising The Welland Trophy Time Trial over 15 miles which has attracted a good field.
Road bike rider David Fellows (Solihull Cycling Club) is a firm favourite having won two open events this season and finishing runner-up in the second CTT Classic Series round last weekend.
Veterans Tim Wood (Team Echelon) and Simon Smart (Drag2Zero.com Cycling Team) are amongst those in the time trial category.
The women’s line-up is also a strong one with Jessica Rhodes-Jones (AeroCoach Ltd) likely to face a strong challenge from team-mate Denise Burrows and Lauren Creamer (Velo Fixers).
Over a more traditional distance the Manchester & District TTA 10-mile event takes place in Cheshire near Holmes Chapel.
Veteran David James Williams (Velotik Racing Team) finished runner-up on the same course two weeks earlier clocking 21-07, behind John Archibald, and goes into the event as favourite.
Road bike competitors Casper Von Folsach (HUUB Design WattShop) and Steven Fidler (Velo6 Racing) are expected to be separated by just three seconds.
Amongst the women’s competitors are Congleton Cycling Club – myWindsock.com team-mates Alice Taylor and Gail Lowe.
Other events scheduled for Saturday include the FTP Racing team 10, Kings Lynn CC 25 and Cambridge University Cycling Club - CUCC (BUCS Championship) over 25 miles.
The Circuit of the Dales, hosted by North Lancashire Road Club, provides a tough 50-mile test for competitors on Sunday.
After winning the Anfield Bicycle Club 100 and the Pendle Forest CC hilly 26.2-mile events last season Benjamin Goodfellow (Fibrax Fenwick’s Wrexham Cycling Club - All) is predicted to take the victory by Spindata in 2-00-17.
However, he faces competition from road bike rider Jude Taylor (Team PB Performance) and the Velotik Racing Team duo of Toby Williams and David Parkin.
Veteran competitors Deborah Moss (Springfield Financial RT), Joanna Cebrat (360cycling) and Sue Cheetham (North Lancashire Road Club) are amongst the women competitors.
A large field of 94 competitors are set to battle it out on Sunday in the Darlington Cycling Club/VTTA North out and back event along the A6055 over 25 miles.
Jack Levick (Rose Race Team) is predicted to go quickest by Spindata in 50-27 after finishing second in last month’s Yorkshire Cycling Federation 10.
Levick was beaten on that occasion by seven seconds by Euan Adam (Durham City Velo) who is amongst his competitors.
Lois Jarvis (Muckle CC) will look to open her account for the season in the women’s event and faces the likes of Sarah Harrison (Trek Sheffield) and Sue McFarlane (Army Cycling).
Sunday also sees the Bynea Cycling Club 25, Paramount CRT charity event over 20 miles along with the Colchester Rovers and Kernow Racing Team 10-mile races.

REPORT & INTERVIEW: Matt Morris earned his first win of the 2024 season in the open category at Border City Wheelers Cycling Club Lazonby Circuit 20.2-mile time trial on Sunday morning, with quickest female going to Anna Weaver.
After registering fourth at the Rossendale Road Club (Public) Bolton-by-Bowland 10.3-mile time trial on February 24, then fifth at the Pendle Forest Cycling Club Circuit of Ingleborough 26.3-mile time trial on March 16, Wigan Wheelers and Triathlon Club rider Morris set a time of 46.54 to chalk up a first success of this campaign.
On his victory, Morris said: “It was sunny but a windy day. Lazonby is a hilly, technical course but I made it through the first lap with a good time, better than expected!
“I thought maybe if I just pushed harder on the final lap there could be a chance to challenge for the win! It was great to take the win and the first one of the season.”
Richard Bideau of Pendle Forest was less than a minute back in 47-43 as runner-up, while Chris Booth (Giant-Kendal-Sidas.co.uk) was third overall and fastest road bike in 48-51, ahead of the 49.49 set by Craig Horseman to finish fifth overall and second road bike, with third road bike going to Martin Mikkelson-Barren (VCC - Velo Club Cumbria) in 51-20.
In the women’s event, Team Kirkley Cycles’ Anna Weaver stopped the clock in 58-41 as fastest road bike and fastest overall, ahead of Lucy Mikkelson-Barren (Derwent Valley Cycling Club) who managed 59-30 and the final spot on the podium going to Jan Scotchfield (North Lancashire Road Club) in 1:04-19.
This event, run on the L202 two-lap course in Cumbria, starts one mile west of Lazonby and sees riders continue west until turning onto the A6 and onwards south to Plumpton where they head east on the B6413 until reaching the Lazonby-Clathwaite junction then following northwest to begin the second lap, then finishing just south of the start line.
