💙💗 OUR GIRLS START OF THE SEASON SO FAR… ⚽️
A few weeks into the new season and there’s already plenty to celebrate across our Ponteland girls section.
From big wins and unbeaten starts to hard fought defeats, comebacks, new players finding their feet and girls stepping into unfamiliar positions — our teams have already shown what Ponteland football is all about.
⚡ U13 Thunder have made a flying start, winning all four of their games so far, including an incredible 7-6 comeback win and impressive away victories against Benfield and Gosforth. 24 goals scored and some brilliant examples of teamwork, work rate and girls putting the team first.
🐾 U14 Wildcats have responded brilliantly to an opening 2-0 defeat. Despite being the better footballing side in that first game, the girls weren’t rewarded for their performance — but they bounced back with a deserved 3-1 victory over New Fordley. Plenty of exciting signs for the season ahead.
🐆 U13 Pumas are unbeaten from their opening three games, with two draws and a fantastic 6-0 cup victory over Walker Pinks. Perhaps most impressive is that they’ve already gelled so well despite welcoming five new players — often with no substitutes and girls covering unfamiliar positions. A brilliant team spirit.
🐯 U12 Jaguars have had a difficult opening game against a strong Newcastle East End side, but there were plenty of positives to take, particularly in their first-half performance.
🦁 U12 Pride have shown exactly what resilience looks like. After a difficult 6-2 defeat to Newcastle Benfield, the girls responded brilliantly in the cup, producing a fantastic 4-3 win at Cramlington Town. A proper team performance and a great response. New signing Jessie impressing with a hat trick in the cup.
🖤 Lynx U14 got their season off to a winning start with a 2-0 victory over New Fordley, showing patience on a big pitch before Elise finally broke the deadlock and Emily sealed the points late on. A particularly pleasing debut for the new players stepping into the team.
🔥 Crusaders U12 have also had a strong start, opening with a dominant 5-0 win before a competitive 4-2 defeat to Morpeth Town Warriors. Playing up an age, the girls showed they can compete and play some excellent football against older opposition.
✈️ U11 Jets couldn’t have asked for much more — two games, two wins. A comeback win against Benfield followed by a win over Ponteland Swifts. Some excellent attacking play, brave defending and a real willingness to work for each other.
⚔️ U11 Crusaders produced one of the stories of the opening weeks, coming from 3-0 down to win against Heaton. Evelyn and Isabella both grabbed braces in a brilliant comeback that showed plenty of belief and character.
🌟 U11 Pumas have started with a big win over Whitley Bay Jaguars, with relentless pressing and fantastic teamwork. A brilliant opening statement from the girls.
💫 U8 Swifts couldn’t have made a better return to league football, winning well. After a quieter first half, the girls really found their rhythm after the break, rotating positions and scoring nine more goals. Special mention to Harper, playing up from U8 and scoring her first ever league goal.
💙 U8 Warriors, football can sometimes be about learning rather than the scoreline. A tough opening game against an excellent Wallsend side, but the girls never stopped trying, stuck to their jobs and kept going right until the end. That’s something to be proud of.
