The scale only tells part of the story.

As much as I’ve always loved to train January 2025 was the point I decided I needed to make a change and dial in on my physique.

Over the following 10 months I went from 85kg to 73kg, losing 12kg and getting into the best shape I’d been in. It wasn’t 10 months of perfect dieting, there were 2 holidays where I didn’t track at all, alongside 12 weeks dealing with a broken foot and two torn ligaments, where my daily expenditure dropped massively. I couldn’t control everything, so I focused on what I could, that being nutrition, upper-body training and getting back to normal gradually.

Following the drop to 73kg, October to April the. became a dedicated gaining phase. During that period I was working around 70 hours a week across two jobs, regularly 6–7 days a week, while continuing to train and push my food up.

Was it a perfectly executed “clean bulk”? No. There were meals out, days I overshot calories and plenty of less-than-perfect food choices. But the overall direction stayed consistent.

I eventually reached 84.5kg, over 11kg above my October weight.

From April, the objective changed again: keep the muscle I’d built and gradually reveal it.

Training intensity stayed high, protein stayed high and calories gradually came back down, bringing us to the second comparison:

October 2025 — 73kg
August 2026 — 76kg

I’m now around 3kg heavier, whilst looking leaner but with noticeably more tissue across my frame.

And that’s probably the part of this transformation I’m most proud of, not because every week was perfect, it was far from that with entire process happening alongside work, holidays, injury, meals out and everything else that comes with normal life. But, it just shows that you don’t need perfect circumstances to make progress. You need a plan that works around your life.

That’s exactly the approach I want to bring to the people I coach.

1-2-1 and online coaching enquiries are open, if you’re looking to make a change before the end of the year, drop me a message or use the link in my bio and I’ll contact you.

Don’s weight has dropped by 8kg since November 2025, but the number on the scales only tells you part of the story.

Over the last 10 months, our main focus hasn’t been simply making Don as light as possible. We’ve taken a body recomposition approach, reducing body fat while building muscle, improving strength and creating a noticeably stronger physique.

As can be seen Don’s waist has reduced, his overall shape has changed and there’s a significant increase in visible muscle mass and definition, particularly across his back, shoulders and arms.

Don is a great example of why progress shouldn’t be judged by scale weight alone. If he had came to me with the focus of purely losing weight as quickly as possible, we wouldn’t have built the same foundation underneath. Instead he trusted me to get him into the position he wanted to be in.

Now we’re moving into the next phase. We’re going to push into a more focused calorie deficit, continue training hard and aim to retain the muscle we’ve spent the last 10 months building, which will reveal even more of the progress we’ve made.

An incredible transformation already, but there’s much plenty more to come. Working with a client like Don, that has such a high level of commitment and wants to learn and improve is always a pleasure 👏🏻

If you’re ready to change your body without relying solely on the scales, drop me a DM with “RESULTS” or fill out my consultation form (link in bio) and let’s have a chat.

📍 PONTEFRACT — SEPTEMBER COACHING OFFER

With September here, I’m opening up a small number of spaces for anyone looking to make a change with their training whether that's getting stronger, building muscle, losing body fat, training for a set goal/event or simply getting back into a consistent routine.

For anyone who locks in on a 3-month coaching package during September, I’m offering 50% off your first month. This is available for both 1-to-1 Personal Training and Online Coaching, with everything tailored around your goals, experience and lifestyle. You'll have support with:

• Progress tracking and a built in accountability tracker

- protein powder
- pre-workout samples

There's only one bundle available, so once it's gone, it's gone.

Thinking about getting back into the gym this September, but not sure where to start? My FREE nutrition and workout guide can help you...

With summer coming to an end, school holidays over and routines starting to settle back down, September is a time when a lot of people think about getting back into training, improving their fitness or just getting into some better habits. If you’re new to the gym, or haven’t trained for a while, knowing what to actually do when you get there can be the hardest part.

As you may be aware I'm a Personal Trainer/Online Coach based at PureGym Pontefract, and I’ve put together two completely FREE beginner-friendly guides that I’d be more than happy to send to anyone who could make use of them.

🏋️ Beginner Gym Plan
A simple full-body workout covering the main movements, sets, reps and some basic guidance on how hard you should be training.

🥗 Nutrition Made Simple
A straightforward guide covering protein, building balanced meals, fat loss, muscle gain and the basics that actually matter — without overcomplicating things.

If you’d like a copy of either (or both), just comment below or send me a message and I’ll send them across.

For anyone who wants a little more structure, I’ve also recently created:

THE FIRST 8 Programme — Your First 8 Weeks in the Gym

It’s a complete 8-week beginner training programme packed with easy to understand information and guidance, that's designed to take you from feeling unsure about what to do in the gym to understanding how to train, progress and eventually train confidently on your own.

It includes:

• Two full-body workouts to alternate between
• 3 structured sessions per week
• Exercise demonstrations and coaching cues
• Sets, reps and rest periods
• Progression guidance
• An 8-week workout tracker
• Exercise substitutions
• Gym terminology explained
• Guidance on effort, technique and progressive overload

'THE FIRST 8 Programme' is available to purchase for anyone who wants something more in-depth, but there’s absolutely no obligation to buy anything to receive the free guides, so if September feels like a good time to get back into training, start the gym for the first time or just get some structure back into your routine, hopefully these can help.

Drop me a comment/message and I’ll send them over. If you're interested in my more in depth programme then also feel free to drop me a message and I can get you setup with a copy.

A lot can change in 12 months.

Over the last year, a lot has changed for me both personally and professionally.

As my clients and many members at PureGym Pontefract will know, I began the journey into Personal Training and Online Coaching in October last year with the opening of PureGym. In April I then completely stepped away from my previous career and made the move into full-time Personal Training and Online Coaching, turning something that has been a huge part of my own life for years into what I now get to do every day.

At the same time, I've continued setting myself new challenges with my own training, one of the biggest came earlier this summer when I took on Endure24, Leeds.

24 hours.
8km loops.
One target: 100km.

I fell short finishing on 80km. Although I didn't hit the number I'd set myself, looking back, I'm probably more proud of those 80km than I realised at the time.

There were plenty of opportunities to stop but I didn't, and that sums up a lot of what I believe about training. You don't need to be perfect or for every week to go exactly to plan, and you definitely don't need to wait until life is less busy before you start working towards something. I was working 6 days per week, 70 hour weeks on occasion, whilst training for Endure24.

You need a goal, a plan and the consistency and accountability to keep you moving forward. That's the approach I want to bring to my coaching. Whether the goal is building muscle, losing body fat, getting stronger, preparing for an event or simply becoming more confident in the gym, I want to help people build something that works around their life and that they can actually sustain.

That's also what this page is going to represent going forward.

I'll be sharing more of my own training and lifestyle, client progress, practical advice around training and nutrition, and the lessons I'm learning as I continue building my coaching business.

So this feels like a good place to start.

New chapter. Same standards. Plenty more to come.

And if you've got a goal you're working towards and feel like you could benefit from some structure and accountability, feel free to drop me a message.

80km completed. 100km still on the list...
