Upton United Women 1-0 Normanton Pro Stars Goaldiggers ️

What a way to start!

In their first ever league game as a newly formed team, Upton United Women secured a fantastic 1-0 victory over Normanton Pro Stars Goaldiggers. As expected, there were plenty of nerves before kick-off, but every single player overcame them. Once the game settled down, the team grew into the match and showed great character and put in to practise, everything they have worked on over the summer. An unsettled start to the game saw Normanton with their first chance at goal early on, but Courtney was lively in between the sticks and put in some great saves. After the opening 10 minutes, Upton settled and began looking the better of the two sides. A dangerous Normanton attack was stopped brilliantly by Liz on the edge of her own area. She calmly slipped the ball into Becky, who spotted the run and delivered an excellent long ball forward. Abbie took a superb first touch, turned brilliantly to skip past the last defender, and then drove a powerful low shot into the bottom corner. An outstanding finish and a goal worthy of winning any game!

The team then showed great resilience and determination to hold onto their lead and record a clean sheet in their historic first league fixture.

Coaches' Lass of the Grass: Abbie was a constant threat all game, who worked tirelessly to create opportunities and stretch the opposition defence. 👏👏

Opposition Lass of the Grass: Captain Nat-tastic led by example in midfield, covering every blade of grass. From defence to attack and back again, she never stopped running and gave absolutely everything for the team. 👏👏

A special mention goes to Courtney, who put her body on the line and pulled off some brilliant saves to keep us in the lead. 👏👏

Stainforth 1 Upton united girls 4

Upton girls travelled to Stainforth for the opening league game.

Upton set of on the front foot playing some really good football. And it was long before Upton was testing the opposition goalkeeper.

In the 4th min Upton opened up the scoring with a good link up down the right saw Mia at back post to tap in the 1st.

Upton had to wait a little while for there second. But Upton continued to test the keeper and should have had another 4or5 more, you could see frustration starting to creep in, but the girls kept going and eventually hit the net when Libby skipped down the wing and put in a fine ball and looped over the keeper to hit the net. 2-0 the 3rd soon followed when Jaycee hit a top bins out of the area to make it 3-0

Half time.

2nd half Upton continued to pile on the pressure and Mia bagged herself another goal to double her tally.

Upton looked very good going forward, pushing with confidence and flair. Also when needed there worked there socks off to get back on position to stop the attack from Stainforth.

Stainforth scored a conciliation goal but that’s all it came down to.

Player of the match could have gone to any of the girls today as they all played brilliant from minute 1 to minute 60, the parents chose Libby who looked on fire and looked to be really enjoying the game. Managers player went to Surrayah who dictated the game from the middle absolutely class

Well done all and let’s carry that performance on next week.

What a way to kick off the season! ⚽️🔥

The Upton United Juniors U9s Girls kicked off the new season at home against Doncaster United Juniors Gold, and what a fantastic display it was in front of the home crowd! 👏

The girls played some fantastic football from start to finish and adapted brilliantly to playing against boys. They never let the difference in physicality affect them and continued to play their football with confidence, determination and a smile on their faces. It was an absolute joy to watch! ❤️🖤

Normanton Comrades 4–1 Upton Reserves

Upton Reserves travelled to Normanton Comrades for their first-ever league game, looking to start the season with a positive result.

Normanton started the game strongly and caused Upton plenty of problems in the early stages. Upton struggled to settle into the game and looked disorganised, and in the 16th minute Normanton opened the scoring with a powerful strike.

Once Normanton scored, Upton finally settled down. The lads became more organised, started competing better and began to improve their performance.

It was now Upton creating the chances, with Nath and Dan both having good opportunities. It was Nath who eventually got Upton back on level terms with a fine chip over the keeper to make it 1-1, assisted by Dan Leith.

Upton could have gone into half-time 3-1 up, but failed to take their chances. Nath had another opportunity, while Taylor Land found some space to drive into but saw his effort go narrowly wide.

The first half really was a game of two halves — Normanton won the battle early on, but Upton finished the half much stronger.

The midfield pairing of Jack and Josh started to get a grip on the game, while the centre-back partnership of Macca and Caiden began to take control at the back.

Second Half

Upton made a few changes at half-time and started the second half with the same intensity they had finished the first.

The lads moved the ball well, playing from left to right and putting Normanton under pressure.

Upton were pushing for what felt like a deserved second goal, and it looked certain when Nath broke the lines and rounded the keeper, but unfortunately he couldn’t find the target.

Against the run of play, Normanton found a second goal.

Despite the setback, the lads kept their heads up and continued to battle. Upton created another few chances and, on another day, could have found themselves with five or six goals.

A dubious offside decision then saw Normanton score their third. It was a huge kick in the teeth for Upton, and eventually the heads and legs started to go.

Normanton punished Upton again, adding a fourth to make it 4-1.

Despite the scoreline, there were plenty of positives for Upton, particularly from the 20th minute through to the 80th minute, when the performance showed the quality and fight this team has.

MATCH REPORT | Carcroft U8s v Upton United U7s

What a way to start the season.

Our U7s travelled to Carcroft for their first game of the season and, more importantly, the first competitive game for this group. Taking on older opposition, the lads put in a superb performance to come away with a comprehensive win.

The hard work from training was there for everyone to see. Solid goalkeeping, disciplined defending, working together as a team and quick attacks all played a part in an excellent display from start to finish.

Man of the Match could have gone to any of the players, but Otis picked up both the referee’s and parents’ vote, while Ronnie was the coaches’ choice.

UPTON HIT BRODSWORTH FOR FIVE IN LEAGUE OPENER! 🚀⚽

Upton United U14 Blacks endured a slow, nervous start on their travels against a highly capable Brodsworth side. The visitors had goalkeeper Rocco Gerrard to thank for keeping them level, as he made a string of vital saves to deny a relentless home attack during the opening 10 minutes.

Having weathered the early storm, Upton grew into the game and broke the deadlock in the 10th minute. A brilliant crossfield pass from Cole McCusker released Alfie Braithwaite, who showed immense composure to slot the ball underneath the advancing Brodsworth keeper to make it 1-0.

Brodsworth responded well and grabbed a deserved equaliser with a well-taken goal shortly after. For the remainder of the half, defences stood strong and both goalkeepers were called into action to keep the scoreline tied at 1-1 going into the break.

The second half was a completely different story as Upton started with high intensity. Cole McCusker burst down the right wing and delivered a precise cross to Archie Tutill, who finished clinically to restore Upton's lead at 2-1.

Just two minutes later, Tutill returned the favour. Pressing high up the pitch, he won the ball back forcefully before squaring it to McCusker, who coolly finished to make it 3-1.

With momentum firmly in Upton's favour, three quickly became four. Dom Thompson beat his fullback with pace, cut inside, and fired home a great finish. While Brodsworth refused to give up and continued to create chances, they found Rocco Gerrard in inspired, unbeatable form between the sticks.

The scoring was rounded off when Ayrton Parker-Buxton drove powerfully through the midfield before releasing Braithwaite. Showing incredible pace, Braithwaite outran his defender and mirrored his first-half composure to slot the ball home, doubling his personal tally and sealing an emphatic 5-1 win.

🔴 Upton Reds Under 8s V Brierley

Upton Reds Under 8s hosted Brierley in their opening game of the season in what was a tightly contested and entertaining match from start to finish.

Brierley broke the deadlock with a quick goal, but Upton responded positively and created chances of their own, with Tucker and Jaxson both going close.

A great passage of play then saw Saul feed Tucker, who turned his man before sending Colby racing down the wing. Colby delivered a fantastic cross into Emilia, who calmly finished to bring Upton level.

Brierley regained the lead after intercepting a sloppy pass, but Lewis kept Upton in the game with back-to-back strong saves.

Upton continued to battle and Jaxson fed Colby, who showed great skill to beat two players before producing a lovely lob over the Brierley goalkeeper to level the game again.

Saul then did brilliantly to defend and clear the ball away from the Upton goal, with his shot sending the ball away from danger. Brierley then unfortunately put the ball into their own net, giving Upton another goal. Colby followed that up with a fantastic strike to keep Upton right in the game.

Tucker then drove forward through the middle before playing Colby in. Colby unselfishly found Emilia, who calmly slotted home for her second goal of the game.

Saul then played a brilliant through ball into Jaxson, who was unlucky not to add another. Lewis provided a great kick forward for Tucker, who found his shot tipped wide by the Brierley goalkeeper.

Brierley finished strongly with another four goals. Upton Reds showed fantastic fight and plenty of quality in their opening game of the season.

Tucker worked incredibly hard in both defence and attack, causing Brierley problems all morning and giving 100% from start to finish. A fantastic all-round performance. 💯

🔴⚫ Upton United U10 Reds vs Stainforth Juniors ⚫🔴
A fantastic start to the season! The Reds came out firing on all cylinders, showing great teamwork, determination and some brilliant football from start to finish.
1st Quarter:
Both teams battled hard from the first whistle, but Upton’s centre-backs stood strong and kept Stainforth at bay. The Reds worked hard as a team and looked dangerous going forward.
2nd Quarter:
After a little team shuffle, Upton really stepped up the pressure and proved too strong for the travelling side. The Reds dominated the play, creating chance after chance, with Theo grabbing a fantastic hat-trick! ⚽⚽⚽
3rd Quarter:
More solid work at the back combined with some fantastic tiki-taka football kept Stainforth under pressure. The Reds moved the ball brilliantly, finding space and linking up all over the pitch.
4th Quarter:
More of the same from Upton as the lads kept the football entertaining right until the final whistle. Unfortunately, a small lapse in concentration in the dying embers of the game allowed Stainforth to grab a consolation goal, but it did little to take away from an excellent Reds performance.

⚽ UPTON UNITED U12s ⚽️ NEW SEASON, NEW KIT, GREAT START! ⚽

A new season begins for Upton United U12s, and we’re looking sharp in our brand new home kit! 🔴⚫

🏠 Upton United U12s 3–3 Rossington

After moving up a few leagues for the new season, we knew the challenge was going to be tougher, and Rossington certainly gave us a good game.

Both teams started brightly, but it was Rossington who took the lead just after the halfway point of the first half.

Upton dominated large spells of the game and played some really good football, but Rossington were dangerous on the counter, playing some excellent balls through and making us work hard defensively.

We came out for the second half pushing for an equaliser, but Rossington struck again to make it 2–0.

The team could easily have let their heads drop, but this team has a never-say-die attitude. 💪

Thomas set up Riley, who finished to make it 2–1 and get us right back into the game.

Upton kept pushing, and Dylan whipped a dangerous ball into the box, forcing Rossington into an own goal to make it 2–2!

Rossington responded with a well taken free kick into the corner. Dariya did everything she could, but it found the net to put them back ahead at 3–2.

With only minutes remaining, up stepped Euan with a moment of magic! ✨

Picking the ball up in the box, he went past several players like prime Messi before smashing it into the net for 3–3! ⚽🔥

A brilliant goal to earn us a well deserved point, with the Rossington coach even saying afterwards that he felt Upton deserved to win the game.

Upton Under 8 Blacks Get League Campaign Off to a Flying Start
Upton Under 8 Blacks got their league campaign off to a fantastic start away at Sandall, despite arriving with just five players available for the game.
The Blacks started at a blistering pace, with Beau finding the net twice in quick succession to give Upton an early advantage.
Gabriel and Theo were outstanding in their link-up play, causing Sandall plenty of problems, and their excellent combination play led to Gabriel getting himself two goals.
At the other end, Stephen was solid as a rock in defence, while Loki pulled off some great saves in goal to keep Upton in control.
Beau then completed his hat-trick after some brilliant link-up play with Gabriel, before Theo got the reward his performance deserved. A fantastic long-range strike found the bottom corner to extend Upton's lead.
After a switch in goalkeepers, Upton showed no signs of slowing down, with Beau adding another two goals to his tally to make it five for the day.
Sandall managed to pull one back after a defensive error, but Upton responded immediately. After a darting run forward, Stephen got his reward as he found the back of the net.
Upton then put the game to bed in style. A great bit of team play created the opening for Beau, who calmly finished to claim his sixth goal of the day.
A brilliant all-round performance from the Blacks, made even more impressive by playing the entire game with just five players. Fantastic effort, teamwork and determination from every single player and a well deserved team man of the match 🖤❤️⚽👏
