Well hello hello, and happy Friday !

It’s still hot hot hot, so I’m busy adjusting my and Piper’s routine so we can still get our nature / trotting up a hill fix without melting. Early morning walkies and evening cycles are the order of the day! In fact I went out with some friends after work last night, for a short blast up Firle Beacon, along the South Downs way to Bo Peep, and back along the Old Coach Road. We stopped for drink and a bite to eat in a local beer garden before heading home to cuddle the dog. It was such a lovely evening, and as I don’t work on Fridays, a great way to round off the week. I think I might have to incorporate it into my summertime routine!

With the heat in mind I’ll be organising a bike and swim  this Sunday, starting at midday at Fly Sussex on the A27, cycling over the downs to Seaford for a dip / paddle / ice cream / all of the above before heading back over the downs and home.

Let me know if you plan to come along by replying to this post or via the FB members page, so we don’t leave anyone behind.

If you want to get out on two wheels, but aren’t local to Lewes, why not find a Piper buddy to do so? Or use the group chat functionality and set up your own Sunday Cycle Club?

In the meantime make the most of the weekend, whatever you get up to, and I hope to see some of you on Sunday!

After a couple of weekends away eating too much good food and drinking too much good wine, (sunny Wales followed by sunny Romania, both brilliant but very different), I’m in need of something slightly more wholesome this weekend, so looking forward to this Sunday’s bike ride. Why not join us and blast away your cobwebs? We’ll meet at midday on the bridge near Bill’s in Lewes, and grab a sandwich to have along the way. Expect to be out for around 3 - 4 hours.

Well hello hello, I hope you’ve all had a wonderful couple of weeks!!

As you’ll know I’ve been away in sunny (and snowy - that was a surprise!) Australia, and having enjoyed two weeks with family and friends eating good food, drinking fine wine and hiking in some if the most beautiful National Parks I’ve had the pleasure to visit, I’m back home and keen to get out in my bike. So who wants to join me?! I’ll be out on Sunday, meet at midday. I expect to be out for 3 hours or so and we’ll either stop for a snack along the way, or bring a sandwich with us. I’ll confirm closer to the time once I know who’s coming and can plan the route. Let me know if you’re going to join us by replying to this mail or responding to the event on the Piper FB members page.

If you’re not local to Lewes or free on Sunday, why not get in touch with a Piper buddy yourself and arrange to meet for a ride? Or use the group chat functionality and set up your own Sunday Cycle Club?

On that note my spare e-bike is now (finally) up for sale. It’s a hybrid with front suspension, and great for both the downs and road cycling. Let me know if you’re interested by replying to this mail.

In the meantime make the most of the sunshine, and I hope to see some of you this weekend!

Well hello hello and Happy Spring!!

Whether you follow the meteorological or astronomical spring dates, you can't deny that it's finally feeling springy. After weeks of rain and general foul weather, it's now time to get out on the bikes and organise the first Piper ride of 2025. We'll be doing things a little differently this year, aiming for a fortnightly rather than a weekly outing, and gathering the names of those who want to join us a few days in advance, to make sure we have enough interest to make it viable.

Having said that, this week I'm being spontaneous - so who wants to come out tomorrow?!? I was out on the Downs yesterday and can report it's absolutely stunning up there at the moment. The general quagmire-ish-ness seems to be drying up at last, the skylarks are out and I finally felt warm sun on my face for longer that 30 seconds.

Let me know by responding to this post, or via the facebook members page, if you fancy joining us, We'll meet at midday at the bridge by Bills in Lewes. Expect to be out for 2-3 hours with a break along the way for coffee and a snack. And I have a spare e-bike to loan out if anybody's interested.

If you aren't local or can’t get to Lewes, why not get some friends or Piper members together in your area? There are about 400 members now, so everybody should have between 20 & 200 matches. You can also post on the FB members page and organise an event there.

Either way, have a wonderful weekend, and I hope to see some of you on Sunday.

Happy Friday , it's nearly the weekend again!

How’s your week been? Mine’s been very wholesome. We have a dog who’s terrified of fireworks (not great when you live in the bonfire capital of England…) so we take ourselves off to a cabin in the middle of a forest for a few days around 5th November. Its bliss! We’ve spent the last few days walking in the forest, easing aching muscles in the outdoor hot tub (which looks out onto the forest) taking in the turning leaves, and enjoying the countryside. I’m definitely more of an outdoor than indoor person, and am already looking forward to next year’s escape!

Despite all the recent fresh air, I can’t wait to get out on the bike again this weekend. It’s looking mild, and hopefully not too muddy. We’ll be taking a newish route this time, with a bit more off path / cross country than recent rides. Meet on Sunday at 12:30 on the bridge outside Bill's in Lewes. Let me know if you want to come along, so we don't leave anyone behind!

If you aren't local or can’t get to Lewes, why not set up your own cycle group or movie group or walking group - or any Piper group? There are about 400 Piper members now, so everybody should have between 20 & 200 matches. And did you know, you can create a group chat on the Piper website for your matches who are into cycling or the cinema or walking (etc etc)? Or set up your own event here!

Have a wonderful weekend, and don't forget to take lots of photos when you're out and about! We want to see them on our FB and Insta pages, or of course here!

it’s the weeeeekend!

How was your halloween? Ours was spent in the traditional way, hiding in the back room hoping nobody was going to knock on the door... That said I’ve not been completely bah-humbug about it, and am enjoying some excellent pumpkin carvings seen on local doorsteps this year, especially of a certain orange faced politician from across the pond - now that really is scary!

This weekend is looking mild but grey, so none of the lovely blue skies we’ve seen on recent Piper bike rides. That won’t be deterring me however, although we’ll be out for a shorter ride this time of 2-3 hours. Meet on Sunday at 12:30 on the bridge outside Bill’s in Lewes. Let me know if you want to come along, so we don’t leave anyone behind!

Happy Friday everyone! How's your week been?

I'm completely confused by this mild weather, and keep overdressing for everything from work (jumper and heavy coat - neither required) to bike rides (down jacket - scorchio!). As I'm naturally a summer sun lover, I'm finding it strange to be craving a cold crisp morning where I can pull a hat on and wrap up against the elements. The recent warm sideways rain just doesn't cut it!

We're looking at more of the same (mild warm days - not sideways rain) this weekend, so we'll be getting out on the bikes on Sunday. This week we'll meet in Lewes, at 12:30 by the bridge next to Bill's. Let me know by replying to this post if you want to join the fun. We'll be out for 2-3 hours and will stop along the way for something to eat.

If you aren't local or can’t get to Lewes, why not set up your own cycle group (or movie group or walking group - or any Piper group?) Well hello hello, it’s nearly the weekend!

I hope you’ve all had a good week, and have enjoyed staring at the night sky recently. What with sightings of the Northern Lights and yesterday’s Hunter’s Moon, it’s been quite the fortnight of celestial phenomenons. I tramped up to the top of Malling Down to view the Northern lights last week, and saw the beautiful moon last night on my way home from work. Is was still looking amazing this morning when I was up on the hill first thing, on a doggy walk.

I do a lot of tramping over hills - it’s good for the soul - so I thought it was about time I organised another Piper walk. Location TBD, but it’ll be on Saturday 16th November, so save the date. It’ll be weather dependant, but I’m aiming for an 11:00 am meet and we’ll stop off along the way for lunch.

Now for this weekend. Saturday is looking good for a bike ride; we’ll meet a little later than usual, at 14:30 by the Bridge in Lewes, near Bill’s. Expect to be out for about 3 hours, and we’ll stop along the way for coffee / snacks.

If you aren’t local or can’t get to Lewes, why not set up your own cycle group (or movie group or walking group - or any Piper group?) Well hello everyone and Happy Friday!

I hope you’ve had a good week so far, and are enjoying the fresher weather. I love to get a big puffer coat on and go tramping over the downs this time of year (well actually all year round to be fair!!) but especially when we have clear skies, frost on the ground and friends to have a laugh with. The dog hates the autumn however, as there’s far too much banging for his liking (shooting and fireworks to add to the usual year-round building works, noisy exhausts, and the clattering of neighbours’ wine bottles being emptied into recycling bins. Always the neighbours’ wine bottles of course, never ours...!!!). So even if he decides he’d much rather stay at home listening to Smooth FM, I still get up and out with my doggy walking friends. It’s just such a great way to start the day.

This weekend however, I’ll be having a lie in or two, as I’m away with friends for a couple of days. It also means no Piper activities, although normal services will resume next weekend - weather permitting. But why not set up your own walking, biking, running, pub, or whatever else takes your fancy group? Use the on-site messaging app to start a group chat with people in your area who are into the same things as you, or set up an event on the FB members page.

Talking of events, we had a good time at the Depot on Tuesday, watching Joker 2. It was’t as brilliant as the first, had slightly more gratuitous violence and a lot more singing (Lady Gaga - what a voice!), but it was a good way to while away a rainy evening. Come and join us for movie night on Tuesday 12th November, when we’ll watch whatever’s on at 7:30 / 8pm. And Tuesday is half price night, bonus!

In the meantime, have a wonderful weekend, and don’t forget to take lots of photos when you’re out and about. We want to see them on our FB and Insta pages, or of course on the FB member’s page!
