Pocklington Runners Welcome to Pocklington Runners

We are a friendly but competitive club in East Yorkshire It's a great way to get fit, healthy and meet like-minded people.

We are a friendly community of runners from Pocklington and surrounding villages. In fact, many of our members are from Market Weighton, Holme-on-Spalding-Moor and other surrounding areas. We meet every Wednesday at 6.30pm at Pocklington Rugby Club for a social run, with a variety of distances to suit all runners. We are always happy to welcome new members to join us on some of the breathtakingly

beautiful social runs that we are lucky to be able to enjoy in our area. Whether you are a novice or more experienced runner looking to improve or just looking to enjoy running with others, Pocklington Runners welcome you to come along and give it a try! You have the option of running in many of the national race events, but this absolutely optional. You may decide that you are happy to just join us on our Wednesday runs and make some new running friends. If you are interested in coming along, just send us a message and we will make sure a friendly face is on-hand to meet you at the club.

Good Morning. Hope everyone is 'enjoying' this weather.

Not sure we'll be loving it tonight for round 5 of the 10k Summer Road Race League at Bugthorpe. It may yet still be cancelled but if not, wish us luck!

A pretty quiet weekend for us last weekend but we had a few Pockers representing us at Bishop Burton 10k (Sophie Russell - 1hr 02 mins) and in the half marathon, Ben Fitzpatrick got in just under 1 hrs 59 while Matt Wilcock continued his series of Pb's with a speedy 1hr 27.

We had lots of Parkrunning action going on as well, including Ian Watson celebrating a big birthday with friends and family at Clumber Park.

We're actually meeting at Stamford's Pub in Pocklington for our social runs tomorrow evening (Weds 24th) as there's an event on at the Rugby Club.

You're still welcome to come and check us out though, with the following options currently offered by our friendly volunteer leaders.

Alex: Walking Group around Pock, 3 miles.

Stuart- faster group up to the Millington Hills. 7 miles. 7.15 ish min miles.

Dave- 10k route with option to cut off Buddhist Centre which would make it nearer 5 miles.
Steady 8.30 to 9 ish min mile pace.

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/466408125

Kiersten- 4min/1min run/walk, same 10km route as Dave's above.

Carol- 4 miler around Pocklington between 10:00-11:00 min miles with stops.

Stephen- Jeffing group either following Carol's group in Pocklington or run up to KP to get off the road. Probably around 5k.

Other options might be offered verbally tomorrow but if you are joining us, please ensure you're well hydrated and consider bringing water to carry with you.

See you there at 6:30pm ready to run at 6:45p

Good Morning All.

Before I move onto tomorrow evening's routes, a quick re cap of the last 7 days racing.

Our 10k racers were back in action last Tuesday for round 4 of the summer league race season on the York Knavesmire.

Despite the threat of heavy showers, it turned out to be pretty favourable conditions, with just a breeze to contend with on one side of the three and a half lap course.

Pock's men's team were pretty much back to full strength and clinched an impressive 3rd place overall with several individual Pb's and age category placings throughout the field.

Our ladies still had some notable injury absences but still managed 8th overall and, like the men, had some great individual Pb performances.

Kudos to Tracey Holden who suffered a fractured foot on the last lap, but with the assistance of team mates, still made it over the line.

We go again next Tuesday for round 5 at a, somewhat hillier, but more scenic Bugthorpe.

No big Pocker participation events after the 10k on Tuesday, but still lots of us in racing action.

Wednesday evening saw Steven Worth and Pete Jackson take on the challenging Otley 10 miler.

Then at the weekend we had lots of club mates taking on various running adventures all over the North of England including loads of Parkrun tourism.

Captain Stuart Smith was joined by Paula Harris for his beloved Swaledale Marathon in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales (apparently his 35th - a bit funny as he tells people he's only 30!).

Going a few miles further in the heart of the Peak District was Sophia Drake taking on the Baslow Boot Bash and on the North York Moors, we had Daisy Horsley 'enjoying' the Wainstones Half.

On Sunday, we had Ben and Naomi Coleman at the Leeds 10k, where they were joined by Gemma Handley.

Ben and Gemma continued their great run of results by both taking yet another 10k Pb (42.34 and 47.20 respectively) - great running folks.

So, onto tomorrow evening's social runs from the Burnby Lane Rugby Club. We meet at 6.30 ready to run at 6.45 and welcome new faces.

A faster paced run is likely to be added verbally but for the moment we have the below planned options.

Alex: 3 mile walking group

Stephen F: Jefffing group up to Buddhist centre and back through the golf course. 3.75 miles. Talking pace. May start off with Carol’s group.

Carol S: Buddhist centre/KP club for 4 miles and then can add 1 mile on down to the Balk, up Parisi and back up to club for anyone who wants 5 miles - 10:30 pace.

Sara M: 9:15-9:30 up to Millington and back, the normal road route up past the KP. Will probably be a bit faster on the way back

Dave F: Wapplington Lane/ Allerthorpe Common loop. 8 miles - at around 8.15 pace given it's mixed terrain. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/160672603

Hope to see you there - don't forget, if you park on the Rugby Club car park, you need to put your car registration number into the system to avoid charges

Afternoon Everyone.

We had a great 'Away' evening at Millington last Weds. Weather was really kind to us, as was the team at The Gait who fed and watered us well.

So, that leaves a bit of catching up to do for our running adventures for the last two weeks.

Despite depleted teams for Easingwold's 10k Summer League Race on Tuesday 26th May, we still delivered the goods on a warm evening and both the women's and men's teams managed respectable 4th placings.

Last Sunday we had Richard Williman representing the Ruth Strauss Foundation at Manchester Half Marathon in his traditional and now very familiar full cricket kit.

Andy and Debbi Pritchard were also enjoying the post race cake at the Rothwell 'cake-athon'!

This Friday evening saw the Sledmere Sunset Trail race which normally takes place in warm sunshine, but not so much this year.

Congratulations to Captain Stuart Smith on his age category win and 6th place overall and also to Gemma Handley and Gail Wragg (who also got a Pb) for tackling this tough, hilly 10k trail race.

Commiserations to Leighton Mathewson who took a heavy fall and couldn't finish.

We enjoyed another (PAP) Pockers Away Parkrun this Saturday at Beverley Westwood and is was great to see a couple of our Juniors joining in as well.

Also on Saturday, Hats off for our super 7 runners who conquered the Dalby Inferno Ultra. Runners need to set off on a total of 10 laps of the 5k ish hilly Dalby Forrest circuit on the hour, every hour or face elimination.

All 7 of our brave Pockers completed the course (no doubt boosted by support from Chris Clegg supplying the bacon butties), which saw a variety of conditions over the ten hour duration, for a total of 55 hilly K's - well done all.

Then yesterday, we had Andy Smith taking on his home half Marathon in Leamington Spa (for a very respectable 1hr 38) and also the Leeds Half Marathon at Roundhay Park where Richard Williman was back in his Ruth Strauss Cricket gear.

He was joined by Steven Worth and Paula Harris who dug in hard for first place in her category.

Our 10k racers are back in action tomorrow evening for round 4 of the summer league race season on the York Knavesmire, so we have a few gaps in our usual running groups/ paces for this Wednesday's club social runs.

But we're back 'home' at the Burnby Lane Rugby Club. We meet at 6.30 ready to run at 6.45 and welcome new faces.

Other routes/ paces are likely to be added verbally but for the moment we have;-

1. Sarah. 6 miler. Meltonby/Yapham road circuit, around 10:30min miles. But if people want a shorter version then can just do Franks loop for around 4 miles.

2. Alex -Walking group. 3 miles.

3. Dave - 6 miles. 8:30min miles. Barmby/Ind Est/canal head or if dry an out and back canal route.

4. Stephen - Jeffing group, through the cemetery along the canal and back along canal lane. 3.5-4 mi. Talking pace.

5. Carol - will confirm on the night but a gentle 1 mile (11 min mile) run to Chappel hill for some hill repeats and gentle run back .

Hope to see you there - don't forget, if you park on the Rugby Club car park, you need to put your car registration number into the system to avoid charges

Good Afternoon.

We've been enjoying the sunny weather, getting out and about into our beautiful countryside.

But a tad warm for racing so please spare a thought for us tonight as we take on the third round of the Summer League 10k Season at Easingwold. We're hoping to capitalise on the excellent results of the first two races but will be tough with high 20's temperatures.

Over the weekend, with lots of us away, we had Pockers Parkrunning all over the country plus our Ultra king, Dan Kidd run/ walking the latest of his LDWA 100 mile events in Kent.

Hats off to Captain Stu Smith who clocked up his 300th Parkrun at Heslington on Saturday where, supported by other Pock Runners, he blistered round in 17 mins 33 for 4th place overall.

Special mention to Georgia Hird as well, taking the 1st ladies place in just over 20 mins.

The nearest local race on Sunday was Northallerton 10k where a few brave Pockers joined 1400 other runners in 24 degrees of sweaty competition.

Just a heads up, we're away next Weds (3rd June) but we'll be at the Burnby Lane Rugby Club tomorrow at 6.30 ready to run at 6.45.

We'd recommend keeping well hydrated throughout the day prior to running and for those doing the longer routes, carrying water isn't a bad idea.

We have the following routes/paces available.

Group 1:
Alex - 3 mile walking group

Group 2:
Jim - 3 mile Jeffing group - no one left behind

Group 3:
Kiersten - 10:30 min miles
Keldspring to Barmby Moor then:
1) back to club via Barmby Road - 4.5 miles
2) via the Industrial Estate - 6.2 miles

Group 4:
Rachel - 10k at 9:15-9:30 min miles
A flat mix of road and trail around Pock
https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/466921909

Group 5 and 6:
The Mile/Miller Lane loop/KP and Buddhist Centre
1) Ellie at 8:45-9 min miles
2) Dave at 8:30 min miles

Group 7:
Stuart - 7:30 min miles
7 mile route up the chalk track to Millington

See you tomorrow evening 👋☀️

Good Morning All.

This time last week we were getting ready to host our leg of the York and District Summer League 10k season.

Over 460 runners descended on the town from 12 other Clubs across the York area and it was all hands to the pumps to get everything ready.

Our Race Directors Rachel and Meg did a great job along with their Team which included last years RD Ellie and Club troopers such as Adie.

But it was a great club effort with support from everyone helping out with car parking, water station, course set up etc etc, and hats off to all our friendly and committed Marshalls, many of whom got absolutely soaked up at Millington.

On the course, the Club runners who made the start line from their various pre race duties didn't disappoint, with our men's team clinching 2nd place overall and our ladies taking 5th, despite a few notable absences.

Great results considering the standard of competition and we had various runners taking age category podium places and breaking their Pb's throughout the field.

Amazing considering the elevation and the soaking we got on the middle sections of the course.

The big event of the Weekend was the 2nd running of the Haxby 10k on Sunday, where a good representation from Pocklington Runners joined 630 other Runners.

Captain Stuart Smith managed first place in his age category but it was great to see some of our newer members racing in Pock colours for the first time.

The flat, fast course in ideal cool, dry conditions aided some impressive running and a smattering of Pb's, so well done to everyone.

We're back again for our social runs tomorrow evening (20th May) and can offer the following routes:

Sarah - Meltonby/ Yapham - 6 miles and 10:30 pace.

Carol and Kate - Franks Loop (The Mile). 4 miles at 10.30 mm pace.

Alex- 3 miles walking group

Jim - jeffing group - 3 miles - no-one left behind

Stuart - Meltonby /Givendale and back - 8.5 miles at 7:15 pace.

Marcus- 9 miles off road - golf course, Birds corner, Brack wood loop at 9:30-10 min pace.

Molly - shorter version of the above at similar pace.

Sophia - 7.5 miles off road - golf course, Millington and back at 10:30 ish pace.

Ellie - 5.5 mile loop (probably industrial estate, Burnby and Keldspring) at 8:45 ish pace.

See you tomorrow evening. We meet at 6.30, Burnby Lane Rugby Club ready to run at 6.45

12/05/2026

If you're thinking of coming to join us for our social club runs tomorrow evening, here are the selection of routes on offer.

A few less options than usual due to many of us racing tonight, but other routes likely to be added later.

Alex: Walking Group around Pock, 3 miles.

Dave: 9 min miling. 5 miles. Around Golf course, down to The Mile and adding on Miller Lane trail loop.

Joe- 7:30-8mm as a recovery run.
Meltonby -Yapham (option for keldspring) . 6 miles with the option to make it 7.5

Marcus- https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/459892689

7:5 mile mainly off-road at 9:30 pace.

Thank you to our run leaders for volunteering this week.

See you at 6:30pm, Burnby Lane Rugby Club, ready to run at 6:45pm.

11/05/2026

Good Afternoon All.

A busier weekend just gone for our intrepid runners.

The two big local ones yesterday were Beverley 10k and Leeds (Rob Burrow's) half and full Marathons where we had excellent Club representation and some cracking performances.

Fourteen Pockers joined 2000 others on the startline at Beverley before racing through the town, up (and up) onto the Westwood towards Walkington before a fast downhill finish back through the town centre to finish in Wednesday Market.

The on-form Ant Carr was first home for us with yet another Pb on 35 mins.45 seconds with a welcome return from Luke Davison less than 10 seconds behind him.

Katie Wise was our first Lady on 41.18, which was good enough for an excellent age category win!

But excellent performances from everyone included a number of other Pb's at this hugely popular event.

The Rob Burrow's events in Leeds are massive, attracting over 13000 runners in total, and this year included 7 Pockers taking on the Marathon and 4 tackling the half.

Both courses are challenging in terms of elevation, the Marathon in particular includes a brutal long climb back into the northern outskirts of Leeds from Otley between around miles 16 to 19 of the 26 so its not for the feint hearted - as if any Marathon is!

But our magnificent 7 did themselves and the club proud, and are pictured at the well deserved post refuelling station - or Wetherspoon's as its otherwise known.

On the course, Richard Ginn led us home, as he so often does, despite it being only 6 days since his last blistering Milton Keynes Marathon.

Chris Maguire, Will Horsley, Jim Cadwallender, Dan Kidd, Lindsey Romeniuk and Paula Harris made up the rest of the team.

Our brave half marathoners were led home by Sam Nagy (who's obviously recovered quickly from his London Marathon) and included Molly Smith who was one of 500 runners raising funds for MND plus our honourary Bob 'Snake Lane' Goodwin and Richard Williman back in his full cricket gear on Ruth Strauss Foundation duties.

Away from mass participation events, hats off to Daisy Horsley who completed the Whitehorse Trail Half Marathon (and a bit), despite a niggling injury and last word must go to club Legend Julian Horsley.

Julian took on the decidedly non local Margaret River Trail Marathon near Busselton, Australia!

The beautiful but brutal route included miles and miles of beach running and sand dunes but Julian used his strength, determination and experience to clinch third spot in his age category.

We had a great time up at Leavening last Wednesday for our first Away Run of the year but we're back at the Rugby Club for this Wednesday's Club runs and will post the planned routes in due course.

But before that, we're looking forward to hosting around 500 runners for our leg of the York and District 10k Road Race League tomorrow night.

Our Race Directors and Team have been working hard and with the support of everyone helping out with Marshall duties, car parking, water station, course set up etc etc, it should be a great evening of friendly but intense competition.

We trust the disruption to the Town and surrounding villages will be kept to a minimum but appreciate the support of the community in putting on this event

Good Afternoon All. And Happy Bank Holiday Monday.

A quieter weekend of competition for us this weekend, but congratulations to Marcus Bourne on his 50 mile Pennine Barrier Ultra on the (famously flat!), Yorkshire Dales on Saturday which he completed in 12 hours 37 mins.

Our Running Cricketer Richard Williman was back on Ruth Straus Foundation duty for the Birmingham Half yesterday managing under two hours in his cricket gear, only 7 days after the big London event.

And good luck to Stephen Maddison currently running the Milton Keynes Marathon today.

But the quieter weekend allowed for some mass 'Away Park running' with good turnouts at both East Park (Hull) and Goole events.

Going back a little further, last Tuesday saw the first fixture of the 10k Summer Road League at Tadcaster.

A great club turnout amoungst the 500 other Runners saw our Ladies team clinch 3rd place overall, with our Men only one place down on that in 4th place. Both great starts in this super competitive league.

Some really strong performances across all our runners saw Pb's fall thick and fast so congratulations to everyone taking part and also turning out to support. Really great to see some new members racing proudly in our colours for the first time as well.

We go again on Tuesday 12th when we host the local League Race at 7.30pm starting from the Kilnwick Road Rugby Club for a hilly out and back route to Millington.

We hope this new route has much less impact/ disruption for The Town but nonetheless, we're always grateful for everyone's support and patience.

We're not running from Pocklington Rugby Club this Wednesday as its the first of our Summer 'Away Runs' but we'll be back on Weds 13th
