Update on the new Royal Plymouth Corinthian Yacht Club clubhouse and invitation for membership
Any prospective new members or volunteers who would like to get involved please feel free to email me directly [email protected] or phone on 07920233621
The club has decided on 25 The Parade as its new clubhouse. It is a quiet spot on the Barbican, less than a 5-minute walk from Sutton Marina and 15 mins from QAB, with good disabled parking as well as other local parking options. It will be a private club, run by members for members, their visitors and visiting yachtsmen. A place to go to meet like-minded people for a drink or a coffee. Holding members themed evenings and events. We believe it will be a fantastic venue for our current members as well as a draw for new members and visiting yachtsmen.
The Building
The building at Basket Ope is across 3 floors, it has disabled access and facilities on the ground floor, where the bar and coffee pod will be situated. On the first floor there will be more of a lounge with soft seating with journals and books available, our trophy cabinets, along with a small kitchen and laundry facilities. The second floor will be the second phase, extra loos and showers.
Sailing.
We came to a standstill on dinghy sailing as we simply could not find enough volunteers to support it. Nothing further has been done as all clubs’ activities were put on hold, we will send out information as and when we get it. Our yacht sailing plans were also postponed. For those of us with yachts it has been great that we have be able to get out and about for day trips and several of us have been out together be it round the Eddystone or more locally and anchoring up for lunch. Several of us are off to Fowey this weekend as the forecast looks good. More to come and soon.
Our Current Status
We have applied for Planning permission with Plymouth City Council. We have fully costed the fitting of the premises and identified good value, good quality products.. We can now give you a view of the kind of ambience we hope to achieve in the pictures attached. Colours and furnishings will not be exactly as shown, but very close, it does give a sense of the different feel of the ground floor (modern and sharp) and first floor (traditional).
We are now actively signing up new members now.
For that you will become members of The Royal Plymouth Corinthian Yacht club, be able to join our sailing ventures and be able to apply for the Royal Warrant which permits you to fly our Blue Ensign. We would also love people to volunteer to help us set up the new building from scratch, which will be really exciting. In our new world we are also looking for people who may want to become flag officers as we have some vacancies. We are looking at a tentative date to get into the building at the end of August (permissions depending)
What we will have as a group of RPCYC members, is something to look forward to, we hope you will join with us as we move the club to the next stage of its journey.
