The weather had been relentless again this week but luckily for us we were playing on Saltmill 3G βοΈ
We knew we would face a difficult opposition who embarrassed us earlier on in the season.
Sporting Club 3 - 5 CMOB
Callum Treleaven would give Dave Smith an early fright when he turned up late β°
Kian Berry also fancied himself a lay in but would be named on the bench π π€
It wasnβt ideal prep but the boys were focused on giving our opposition a good game at the very least.
Saltmill 3G is a lovely surface, it suited CMOB down to the ground and we would start the game with lots of possession.
There would be some really nice intrecat play in the early exchanges and Cayleb Needham would make himself a handful in the final third.
Cayleb would let go of a few pop shots from just outside the area but see them all sail just wide.
CMOBβs early pressure would pay off soon after with another footballing move.
Cayleb Needham would get slid in down the right hand side, he would fire the ball back across the face of goal at pace, Jake Evans would arrive just in time, connect with perfection and send the ball high into the roof of the net π
0-1 up and in control, we would be the masters of our own downfall when Dave Smith chopped down the striker in the box βοΈ
The resulting penalty was almost saved by Callum Treleaven, he would guess the right way but the ball would just slip through his hands on this occasion.
The Sporting striker was rather dramatic and would fall to his knees in slow motion looking for another penalty.
The sound effects and funny body movement would not fool the referee however π
Lee Dare was of course as excitable as ever and would blow his top with the Gaffa midway through the first half.
Darey would send a cross field pass into another dimension but still expect the gather to get onto the end of it π
Letβs just say some words were exchanged π€¬
Multiple hand ball shouts would soon follow in the Sporting box this time but on each occasion the ref would not be sold.
Dave Smith would go into a 50/50 on 30 minutes and come off much worse π
Old Man Smith would end up popping his calf in the tackle and have to be helped off the field of playπ΄π»
Luckily Kian Berry had finally turned up after a few extra winks and would be chucked straight into the action for us π
CMOB would continue to pile on the pressure and this time Sean Esson would let go of a powerful effort.
The keeper however would get down low, make the save onto the post and out for a corner 𧀠β
Both teams would enter HT level after a very entertaining first half of football.
The boys were straight back out of the traps again in the second half and would take the game to Sporting once more.
It would not take long for us to gain the advantage in the gam.
Sean Esson would go on one of his trademark marauding runs from CB, heβd beat close to 3 players before pushing a ball in behind the defence, Kian Berry would run onto the ball and calmly finish across goal πββοΈ π₯
Frustratingly our lead wouldnβt last long and we would have yet another penalty given against us π©
Sean Esson would be caught playing as a striker, heβd make up the ground though and get back in but the striker would again cut inside, dive over Seanβs leg with a triple pike and land with minimal splash π π¦
This time it was the Sporting defender who would step up and he would make no mistake with the penalty.
Again CMOB would respond the right way and go on the attack πͺπ»
The Sporting keeper would end up making a number of brilliant saves to keep his side in the game π
The Gaffa would then go close when he turned inside his man from a throw in, he would toe poke an effort towards the top corner but again the sporting keeper would somehow keep it out.
Dave Trigger Wrench would then connect perfectly with a corner, again the ball was destined for the net but the defenders touch would just about divert the ball wide.
Against the run of play we would see ourselves go behind in the game for the first time.
The CMOB players would be caught sleeping after another attack, the ball would go over our defence, Trigger would be running in treacle but just about make the pass back to Callum, the ball would ricochet around, end up at the strikers feet 1v1, Callum would make a great save at close range but the follow up would just about dribble through and into the net π π
The Gaffa was absolutely fuming on the sideline, heβd slam the linesman flag to the floor in frustration, break it before quickly putting it all back together again and hope the ref didnβt seeπ
Kian Berry would then go on a snakey run, get in behind again and find the net β¦. The Sporting Lino had spotted an offside in the build up and the goal was deemed offside π
Cayleb Needham would then nick the ball away from the defender, break away at pace, close down on goal but his final touch was just like a trampoline and the keeper would gobble up the ball before he could get his shot off.
CMOB would huff and puff with the clock ticking trying to find the equaliser π°οΈ
Our efforts would finally be rewarded when Jack Lethbridges free kick was plucked from the sky by Jake Evans in the box, heβd bring it down exquisitely and smash the ball into the Sporting net π₯
The Lino had his flag up again but the ref seen nothing wrong with it this time.
5 minutes was left on the clock and to be completely honest after how the game had gone so far, the Gaffa probably would of taken a draw in the end.
The lads would have other ideas and show great character to go after the winnerπ₯
Lee Dare would drive forward with the ball down the left, heβd then deliver the ball into the box, the defenders would not deal with it well enough, it would land right next to Jack Lethbridge, Jack would then d**k a worldy straight into the top corner and leave the keeper with no chance π€― π
Itβs amazing what you can do with your new girlfriend watching on from the dugout π©ββ€οΈβπβπ¨ π
The final whistle was drawing ever closer but we were not done.
Cayleb Needham would win the ball back in the midfield, heβd play a ball into Kian Berry who would nutmeg the defender, drive forward, the defender would get back in but Kian wanted it more than him, he would battle for the ball, brush the defender off with a chop inside before driving the ball under the keeper and seal the 3 points for us on the day π€©
It was a brilliant game for the neutral and great fight was shown by all in claret and blue who never stopped believing in the game π©·π©΅
Some fantastic performances overall with Callum Treleaven treating us to another great display, making some crucial saves despite the hangover π»
Kian Berry was dangerous throughout, always getting in behind with his box of tricks πͺπ©
Lee Dare would show his versatility again and Jordan Dunn would also put in a great shift after a few weeks away.
The Gaffa has decided though to give Sean Esson the MoM award who was absolutely everywhere β¦. sometimes probably playing too high but I guess thatβs just how he goes about his business π¨βπΌ
Sean would be defensively solid, bring the ball down from orbit multiple times, start our attacks and also end up joining in π₯
