The club was formed by 4 model makers way back in 1984, who wanted to be free to explore all avenues of model making, without being tied to any particular type. We have always encouraged new model makers no matter what their interest or ability and will always offer advice or suggestions to each other. We have always met fortnightly and every other meeting is a friendly competition where we can br
ing our latest creations to show them off and have them judged against other entries. Initially our little group had military, aircraft, sci-fi and crane modellers and could put on quite a diverse display and this has been our ethos ever since. We initially met at the Kitto Centre where we hired a small room. Membership grew quickly and we were regularly boasting up to 10 regular members. As a result we outgrew the Kitto Centre and moved to the Tothill Community Centre. However as the charges for the hall increased, we relocated to our current home at Woodland Fort. Over the years our numbers have fluctuated being as low as 3, but as many as 12 and we currently have 25 regular members with a wide range of ability and interests. We have visited many other clubs exhibitions over the years ranging from Penzance to Poole, with Torbay, Newton Abbot, North Somerset and Yeovilton in between. We started holding our own small exhibition, but with 2 other local clubs it was becoming difficult to get clubs and traders to come to Plymouth 3 times a year. So the three clubs got together, formed a committee and we now hold a joint annual exhibition at the end of June. Any proceeds are divided equally between the 3 clubs and we use our share to fund our travels around the region. Ours is a solitary hobby but we are always keen to attract new members to widen the diversity of our knowledge, skill base and displays.
