🩵🤍 MATCH REPORT | MAP Kings Whites U9s vs. Plymouth Argyle Academy U8 💚 ⚽

Another brilliant learning experience for the boys today as we took on Plymouth Argyle Academy U8s across four shorter games.

The boys fought hard throughout and were given another excellent physical challenge. Just as importantly, they had another opportunity to learn one of the less glamorous lessons in football: not everything will be fair, go your way or be in your control.

The key is to reset quickly, forget what’s happened and get on with the next moment.

🐠 Be a goldfish. Short memory. Reset. Go again. On to the next one.

Across the four games, the overall goal tally tells the story well. We were firmly in control of the first two before tired legs caught up with us in the final two, making it a much closer contest overall.

With the boys having played a lot of football over the last few days, fatigue definitely played a part. With a rest day to recharge, we would have had more in the tank to stay on top through those final games. But that’s another valuable lesson in managing energy and adapting when the legs are tired.

🏆 POTM | #1 🧤🛑

Today’s Player of the Match goes to #1 for another step forward in his development.

He is really starting to use his voice to command his box, coming off his line quicker and showing some impressive drop-kicks and goal kicks. Combined with his already excellent shot-stopping ability, he is taking his own game - and the team’s - to another level.

He also showed great mentality after conceding, resetting quickly and moving straight on to the next challenge.

A seriously impressive development curve. 🧤🔥

We head into training tomorrow with a lighter, more technical session focused on recovery while continuing to develop and refine some of the new skills and techniques the boys are learning.

Another tough challenge, another excellent opportunity to learn.

💙🩵🤍 MATCH REPORT | MAP Kings Whites U9s vs. Horrabridge Rangers U10 ⚽

Today brought another tough test playing a year up in U10 Division 2, against a strong and very physical side.

The opposition were noticeably bigger than our boys, but the game was close and competitive throughout and showed once again that we are certainly not out of our depth at this level. 💪

Two relatively simple defensive errors ultimately cost us, and without those we feel we would have come away with a point. Plenty to be encouraged by, alongside some clear areas to improve.

At times we got drawn into the physical battle and, to their credit, the boys gave as good as they got and never shied away from the challenge. However, against bigger teams, we need to get back to the MAP way: move the ball quickly, use triangles and one-twos, and move into space rather than trying to win every physical battle.

The coaching team weren’t disappointed with the performance, and our start was a big improvement on some of our pre-season games. These are exactly the experiences we need as we continue learning how to compete at this level.

🏆 PLAYER OF THE MATCH | #8 ⚡

A brilliant mid-game spell saw #8 take his energy and effort to maximum, becoming a constant threat down the wing and running directly at players. He capped it with a well taken goal to bring us level at half time.

Sadly, after continuing to cause problems, he took a big knock and had to come off, which disrupted our attacking threat. A real shame given the impact he was having.

🦁 OPPOSITION’S PLAYER OF THE MATCH | #11

#11 was outstanding across the left side of midfield and defence, putting in an excellent defensive performance and battling throughout carrying on his fine form from training.

He did whatever the team needed, came close to a goal himself with an effort that clipped the bar, and showed exactly the determination and team-first attitude we look for. 👏

Another valuable learning experience for the boys and coaching team. We now know what to expect next time and how we need to approach the game.

We take those lessons into training on Monday before another tough fixture tomorrow for a double-header weekend. 👀

🫡 CAPTAINCY UPDATE 🩵🤍

As we head into the new season, we’re delighted to announce our new Whites leadership team:

🧠 #12 — Captain
🦁 #11 — Vice Captain

This season, we’ll be rotating the captaincy roughly each school term rather than changing the armband every game or having one player hold it permanently.

The aim is simple: give each captain a proper opportunity to grow into the role, develop confidence and responsibility, while creating opportunities for other players to demonstrate the leadership qualities and values we want to see across the group.

At this age, being captain isn’t about being the best or loudest player. It’s about leading by example and living our values:

🩵🤍 TRAINING REPORT | BACK TO WORK ⚽🔥

After a five-week summer break from training, it was fantastic to get the Whites back together to train tonight.

And judging by the session, you could have fooled us into thinking they’d never been away! Following an excellent performance at the weekend, the boys picked up exactly where they left off and went straight into a brand new set of drills and more advanced training designed to push them onto the next level.

Our focus over the coming weeks will be heavily centred around passing, movement and decision-making - particularly increasing the speed of our passing and learning to play with minimal touches.

The boys were introduced to a number of new techniques and movements tonight, and this will become a real staple of our sessions as we look to develop the way we move the ball. We’ll continue to refine these techniques, increase the intensity and gradually make the exercises more challenging as the boys become more comfortable.

🦁 TOTW | #11

Tonight's Trainer of the Week goes to #11 for an outstanding display. His advanced footwork was excellent throughout the session, but just as impressive was his listening and ability to take what he was being taught and immediately apply it into the game.

That was particularly evident in the short 7v7 game at the end, where he put his movement and passing into practice to score two goals and set up another. ⚽⚽🅰️

A thoroughly deserved award and one that has been a long time coming. 👏

The most important thing for this boy now is to keep that confidence, believe in himself and trust his own ability. Performances like this will continue to follow when he does.

👏 SPECIAL MENTION | #7 🎯

#7 also impressed with the way he took the new techniques on board and put them into practice during the session. The biggest positive, however, came in the 7v7 game. After hitting the post and becoming frustrated when things weren't going his way, he managed to reset, refocus and rejoin the group positively.

That ability to manage frustration, reset and get back involved is an important part of development - particularly as the boys continue to face tougher challenges and higher expectations.

The hard work and tests continue this weekend as we look ahead to our first home fixture of the new season against Horrabridge Rangers, followed by another exciting test on Sunday against Plymouth Argyle Academy.

Two more opportunities to learn, compete and continue pushing ourselves.

⚽️🩵🤍💙 MATCH REPORT | RAILWAY BEACON U10s vs MAP KINGS WHITES U9s 🩵🤍💙⚽️

The boys opened the Div2 season up with a bang today following a couple weeks off training and matches due to the summer break.

They continued to showcase the hard work put in over pre season with a solid defensive display from front to back with every boy running their socks off and leaving it all out on the pitch.

The boys created some lovely passages of attacking play and shared the ball to create space and chances at goal.

After a tight start to the match the boys got ahead and then didn’t look back.

It was particularly pleasing as coaches to see the boys all working together as one to get the ball back and go on the attack.

A performance everyone could be proud of with the coaches having abit of a headache to chose a POTW as they all did so well.

🏆 POTW

A top performance for our #2 today - winning the ball back and breaking down opposition play tirelessly by blocking passes and runs through the middle and down the wing.

He was calm on the ball under pressure and controlled the ball to then find team mates in space multiple times to get us up the pitch.

We now look forward to returning to our training schedule after the summer break to begin preparations for next weekends fixture. 💪
