MAP Whites 🤍 at Exeter City FC Tournament 🔴⚪

A brilliant day of football for the boys at the Exeter City 5v5 Tournament, with 32 U8 teams entering from across the country, it was fantastic to see the team start strongly and finish the group stage just as well - massive progress, especially in the 5v5 format 👏

Against some top-tier opposition, the boys more than competed throughout the day and showed excellent determination, teamwork and quality in every game.

With games being just 8 minutes long, there was very little room for error, meaning concentration and intensity had to be high from the first whistle to the last. The boys handled that challenge brilliantly and, after a really strong group stage performance, progressed into the Last 16 knockout stage - a fantastic achievement in such a competitive field.

Unfortunately, after an almost hour-long break for the Whites between finishing group stage and beginning knockouts, some players looked a little disrupted and lost momentum heading into the knockout match and conceded a soft goal against a side that didn't trouble us. In the end, one goal proved to be the difference between continuing our excellent run and heading home - but that’s tournament football sometimes.

What pleased us most was the way the boys competed and sustained their level throughout the group stage against strong opposition. They should hold their heads up high and be really proud of their efforts 💪

POTT 🏆 went to our #3, who after saying at presentation last week he was staying at LB forever 🤥, may well have found himself a new role up front 😅 A brilliant shift as striker, finishing the day with 5 goals 👏👏 Very well deserved!

The next tournament will be here before we know it, with plenty of football in between.

Training Report | MAP Whites U9s 💙🩵🤍⚽️

After a full-on weekend of football, featuring an excellent tournament performance and a fantastic presentation evening, the boys were straight back into the training ground to refocus and prepare for what’s coming up.

With another big challenge ahead this weekend at the Exeter City Football Club 5v5 Tournament, the session was built around intensity and decision making in tight areas.

We worked heavily on ball mastery and then into 1v1 battles, encouraging players to compete with real intensity in both attack and defence, followed by quick transitions to ensure they react immediately when the ball changes hands.

From there, we progressed into 2v1 overload situations, emphasising the importance of using the extra player effectively - moving the ball quickly, making the right decision, and getting shots off as soon as space is available rather than overplaying.
The boys showed great energy throughout, with lots of positive reactions to coaching points and clear improvement as the session developed.

TOTW ⭐️ went to #10 for an excellent response to feedback from the weekend. He applied the coaching points really well in training, showing great improvement in decision making by releasing the ball earlier and avoiding over-dribbling, leading to better attacking play and more effective team involvement 👏

All focus now turns to the weekend ahead, which promises to be a huge test. With 28 teams entered from across the country, including winners from the Butlins ESF Bognor Regis tournament, the standard will be extremely high.

A brilliant opportunity for the boys to test themselves again and continue their development 💪⚽️

What a presentation for our MAP Kings U8 Whites this afternoon and a great way to end our season! ⚽⚽

Our journey this season has been another big step forward for this group.

This season brought a big transition, stepping up from 5v5 to 7v7 and playing a year up. Expanding from 9 to a 12-player squad strengthened the group, and the format suited the boys - giving them more space and opportunity to show their quality.

From day one, our focus has remained clear - individual player development, a team-first attitude, and togetherness over results. Still having the same core group of 9 boys from our U5/U6 coaching school pathway is something we’re incredibly proud of and reflects the environment being built here.

The boys have produced some outstanding performances against stronger and older opposition, and we’re delighted that their efforts resulted in promotion - the goal we set at the start of the season.

Like any season, it hasn’t all been straightforward. There have been ups and downs, moments where the rub of the green has gone our way, and others where it hasn’t - but the resilience, effort and togetherness shown throughout has been excellent. These experiences are helping shape the boys as players and young people.

Looking back at earlier Veo footage, the development across the group is clear for all to see - something we’re very proud of as a coaching team. Futsal and varied formats have also helped improve decision-making, movement and playing out from the back.

We’re also proud to have supported many of the boys in progressing onto the Argyle pathway, with the majority now featuring within the Elite Hub - a fantastic achievement for the group.

It’s been a pleasure to work with such a committed and positive group. We’re incredibly proud of what the boys have achieved this season and the progress they’ve all made both individually and as a team.

We look forward to preparing for an even bigger challenge next season and seeing the boys continue to grow, develop and enjoy their football - wherever their journeys take them next.

Another brilliant tournament experience for MAP Kings Whites U8s 💙🩵🤍⚽️

A huge effort from all the boys today at the MAP Kings Blues U8s 7v7 Tournament, competing against some of the top local talent across both U8 and U9 age groups.

The boys finished a respectable 3rd place out of 7 teams, with incredibly fine margins between the sides throughout the afternoon. A fantastic achievement, especially considering we were missing our regular goalkeeper #1 and had to manage a couple of injuries during play 👏

As the fixtures unfolded, the boys faced a tough run with our final four games played back-to-back, each being 20-minute straight-through matches, which understandably tested energy levels and made it difficult to maintain the intensity right to the end.

Despite that, the boys continued to battle, showing excellent resilience, teamwork and quality throughout the tournament.

The day also gave us another great opportunity to continue developing and experimenting with a new formation, which really helped us grind out results against stronger opposition - something we’ll definitely continue to build on heading into next season.

POTT 🏆 went to #5 for an outstanding defensive display. Excellent leadership from the back, composed distribution and fantastic character to quickly reset after a small wobble and finish the day strongly 👏

Very proud of the boys again today - lots of growth, lots of learning and already clear signs of progress since the last tournament 💪

Now onto the hotly anticipated MAP Presentation Awards tomorrow afternoon at the amazing Boringdon Park Golf Club 🏆💙🩵🤍

From scorching sunshine last week to non-stop rain this week… the weather may have changed, but the boys’ effort and commitment certainly didn’t! 🌧⚽️

Despite the wet conditions, the boys worked brilliantly throughout another excellent session.

We continued to advance our ball manipulation, pushing the boys further technically whilst on the move to create game-like scenarios, before progressing into some high intensity 1v1 battles involving utilisation of speed, agility, quickness and strength which then developed into 2v1 scenarios to encourage decision-making and teamwork in attacking moments.

The session finished with a competitive 6v6 match, giving the boys another opportunity to put the evening’s learning into practice in a game environment.

TOTW ⭐️ went to #9 for an excellent display in training. Brilliant ball manipulation during the ball mastery work and some silky skills, turns and feints in the 1v1s to create space and get shots away. Great to have him back after a spell away - a really confident and composed performance on the ball 👏 keep up the great work.

We now turn our attention to what promises to be a very competitive round robin tournament this Saturday, hosted by our friends at MAP Kings Blues U8s @ with lots of top young local talent on display across both U8 and U9 age groups ⚽️🔥

MAP Kings Whites U8s 💙🤍 vs Plymouth Argyle Football Club U7 Academy Teams (x3) 💚⚽️

We said we might find a last-minute fixture… and the coaching team delivered! 👀

A brilliant morning of football at Manadon Sports Hub as the boys took on three Plymouth Argyle U7 Academy sides in a competitive 5v5 round robin, with lots of local young talent on display.

With the season still ongoing, splitting the Whites into two teams gave the boys valuable extra minutes on the pitch as we continue training, developing and competing through the off-season.

Today’s focus was on keeping shape, sharing the ball and building play from the back to create chances - and it was fantastic to see so many brilliant passages of play, team goals and strong individual performances across the morning.

The games also gave us another great opportunity to try different player combinations, positions and partnerships across the pitch, with the boys fully embracing the challenge and enjoying the experience.
Plenty of positives to take away as preparations continue.

We now turn our attention back to the training ground tomorrow and next weekend’s round robin style tournament hosted by our friends at MAP Kings Blues U8s 💙🤍⚽️

⚽ Training Match Report | MAP Kings Whites U8s and YMCA U8s 🩵💙🤍

Another excellent midweek game with our friends at YMCA U8s 👏

With record temperatures for the Whites to play in, the boys faced a real test in the heat ☀️ Thankfully we came prepared: water sprays, gallons of water, umbrellas for shade and even an ice bucket (although the ice didn’t last too long in the conditions! 😅).

Despite the sweltering temperatures, the boys showed fantastic effort and attitude throughout. We managed the game in shorter spells to help keep everyone cool, hydrated and performing at their best.

A big recent focus for the group has been staying positive and maintaining focus when things aren’t going our way - and today the boys showed exactly that. Going a goal behind could easily have knocked confidence, but instead the boys dug in, stayed together and responded brilliantly to bounce back stronger 💪

The game also gave us another valuable opportunity to experiment with different formations, positions and player combinations as we continue preparing for the challenges ahead.

Trainer of the Week 🏆
This week’s award went to a player who showed real resilience and positivity when things weren’t quite going his way, before bouncing back in style with a brilliantly taken free kick ⚽ Showed great listening, worked tirelessly in difficult conditions and somehow still looked like he had more left in the tank at the end - top effort buddy 👏

We have a rare weekend break ahead - our first in a while! Although knowing the coaching team, we may still sneak in a last-minute fixture 👀 If not, it’s back to the training ground next Monday for more hard work and development.

⚽ Match Report | El Mappico 🩵💙🤍

A great way to kick off the bank holiday weekend with an El Mappico fixture with our friends at MAP Kings U8’s in the baking hot sun ☀️⚽

An enjoyable game for both sides, giving the Kings boys a chance to continue adapting to the 7v7 format ahead of their move up from 5v5 next season, while also allowing our Whites boys the opportunity to experiment with new formations, positions and player combinations.

Despite the heat, both teams worked incredibly hard throughout, with some excellent passages of play, intense 1v1 battles and plenty of efforts on goal. It was another really valuable experience for everyone involved and great to see both teams enjoying their football 💪

Of course, we rounded things off with a penalty shootout - always a favourite with the boys and a brilliant way to finish the session 😄⚽

Player of the Week 🏆 – #4
This week’s award went to a player who worked tirelessly in the hot conditions while trying out a new role at left wing-back. Showed great effort throughout and did well focusing on distributing the ball out from the back and adapting to a different position 👏

No training this Monday due to the bank holiday, but we’re back in action on Tuesday with our friends at YMCA U8s ⚽
