Last week we were delighted to welcome students from Niceville High School, Florida, for a unique marine science and diving experience in Plymouth Sound🤿

During their dives, the students laid quadrats at two different locations within Plymouth Sound to collect seaweed samples, which they later analysed at the Marine Biological Association. It was a fantastic opportunity to combine practical fieldwork with scientific research, giving the students valuable hands-on experience both underwater and in the laboratory🔬

A huge thank you to O'Three Ltd for sponsoring the event and making it possible. By providing a wide range of suits, O’Three ensured that everyone stayed warm, dry, and comfortable throughout the dives. Coming from the much warmer waters of Florida, diving in Plymouth's conditions was certainly a new experience for many of the students!🫣

Back at it again with the sun shining and another fantastic weekend of diving here in Plymouth☀️

We were joined by some of our regular groups including Hidden Depths, Bracknell, Marlin, Drift Divers and Darkstar. It is always great to welcome familiar faces back on board and share another weekend of brilliant diving together!

Seeker was out visiting some of our deeper wrecks, reaching depths of 45 metres, while the rest of the fleet explored many of our famous sites within 30 metres. Visibility varied throughout the weekend, with the best conditions found offshore where divers enjoyed 8 to 10 metres, while inshore sites offered slightly less⚓️

A few windy weeks here in Plymouth have not stopped us doing what we do best and getting out there to enjoy some incredible diving💨🌊

This week we were delighted to host a Mod 3 trip run by Deep Wreck Diver , with divers travelling from all over Europe to join him on some of the wrecks featured in his YouTube top hits. It was fantastic to welcome such a great group of people and share some of the amazing diving we have right here on our doorstep!

The weather threw us a few challenges along the way, including a day spent in the harbour where everyone went back to their roots and reintroduced themselves to recreational diving. With a positive attitude and a bit of flexibility, the group still enjoyed four brilliant days of diving and made the most of every opportunity the sea gave us! Check out the sites they visited below, they experienced 10-15m on all sites🤩

Every year, students from Niceville High School in Florida travel to the UK to take part in marine science fieldwork, collecting data to support their studies. This year marked an exciting first, as it was the first time they had carried out their research with us aboard Searcher🤿

We were delighted to welcome 10 high school students on board, with Ben and Matt from In Deep assisting the group in the water and ensuring their safety throughout the dives!

The students conducted surveys at two different sites in approximately 10 metres of water, both located on rocky seabeds. Their task involved carefully scraping algae and seaweed from the rocks to collect samples of the organisms living within these habitats. They also retrieved three sand core samples at each location, helping to build a more detailed picture of the marine environment🪸

The next phase of the project is now underway at the Marine Biological Association, where the students will continue processing their samples and extracting the valuable data gathered during their fieldwork🔬

A massive thank you has to go to O'Three Ltd , whose generous sponsorship made this experience possible. A wet and windy week aboard Seeker and Size Matters as we ran a 2-boat MOD2 trip organised by Deep Wreck Diver.

The plan was originally to be diving from our base in Plymouth but after diving HMS Foyle & the Medoc on Monday the forecast was not going to allow us any more days of diving on the Plymouth wrecks.

To keep everyone diving, we moved the boats down the coast to Fowey, a small Cornish town which has some great 50-60m wrecks on its doorstep that are somewhat protected from the prevailing wind direction.

Between the two boats, we dived;

Almond Branch (59m)
Eastfield (54m)
Carolus (61m)
Butetown (57m)

The divers and crew worked hard throughout the week to make everything align. The divers drove by road each day between Plymouth and Fowey whilst the crew remained in Fowey, sleeping on the boats.

Throughout the week we’ve had some great wreck diving in very respectable visibility.

Our weekend charters have unfortunately been blown out as the wind has continued to build but we are right back at it next week with another week long MOD3 trip! Fingers crossed for lighter winds 🤞

🏆 Diver of the Year Award – Greg Partridge 🏆

After being named our Diver of the Year at Christmas, we've finally managed to get Greg his well-deserved award!🤿

Greg has been a valued member of the club for the past three years, first joining us on a Scapa Flow holiday and quickly becoming a firm favourite on board. His diving journey began 32 years ago at Fort Bovisand in Plymouth, where he rapidly built experience and qualifications. He progressed into Trimix diving 24 years ago before fully "heading to the dark side" and moving onto CCR just two years later.

Over the years, Greg has trained through most of the major agencies and now holds an impressive range of instructor qualifications, including CCR Instructor status. Despite diving all over the world, he still insists that some of the best diving can be found right here in the UK!

Known for bringing plenty of energy, laughter, and top-quality banter to every trip, Greg is always a pleasure to have on the boat. Over the last year, he has also become our most regular diver, rarely missing an opportunity to get in the water.

It's been fantastic having Greg as part of the club over the last three years, and we're delighted to recognise his contribution with this award. Congratulations, Greg – thoroughly deserved! 👏🎉

Over the past few months, we have thoroughly enjoyed working with the University of Plymouth students throughout another successful training season. It has been fantastic to see so many divers developing their skills, confidence, and experience in the water, and we would like to congratulate everyone who has successfully completed their courses with us this year!

We would also like to wish all students the very best of luck with their HSE Part 4 training with the university over the summer months🤩

While our university training programme has now wrapped up for the season, our courses certainly are not slowing down. Traditionally, most of our training has taken place over the winter months, but we are excited to announce that we will now be teaching throughout the summer as well.

Whether you are looking to learn to dive for the very first time, refresh your skills, or continue progressing through advanced qualifications, we have a range of courses available throughout the summer for all experience levels 🤿

These relaxed UK boat dives are open to all qualified divers (Open Water and above or equivalent) and are designed for anyone who simply wants to get in the water without the stress of organising a buddy in advance. Just turn up and we’ll pair you with someone on the boat!

Come and explore what Plymouth has to offer, from stunning reefs packed with marine life to incredible shipwrecks. Perfect for building confidence, meeting new dive buddies, and getting more time in the water⚓️🪸

If you feel a little unsure about navigation, we’ve got you covered. There will be a free guide on board if you’d like to follow🧭
