No races today, but just a little update ...
.. firstly, thanks everyone for your support both in and out of races. Particularly Vanessa, Sean, Saturn Running crew, James, Olivia, Lesley, Rosie, Martin and others who check in and think of me. A little kindness goes a long way.

After a couple of brilliant weeks doing what I love, I've realised that I can't keep racing every weekend without my recovery going backwards. I am in a little pain. Nothing bad, but enough to remind me that I'm not invincible and can't rush back.

I still find it fascinating that I can bend my leg to do a quad stretch - something I couldn't do for over a year! The fact I can run a marathon isn't as fascinating for me, more innate, but it is exciting and I love it!

Anyway, it's a reality check. I'll still run a little, but you won't see me on the towpath every weekend just yet.

Here are some of my favourite photos from recent events! πŸ“·

(Saturday 16th May)

Marathon 358 - Saturn Running Rocky at 50:

After a higher mileage last week and a lazy week this week, I was pretty worried about running yesterday. I wasn't too confident.
However, once I got going, I was glad I turned up and started off strong.

Six out and backs along the towpath smiling, cheering people on and having fun was just what I needed!

At I had a bit of a slog around 8 miles, then at 20 miles, I had to just hang on for the final 6.2. The realisation that I am still not marathon fit brought me back to reality a little, but I'd decided at around mile 18 that I wanted to finish on under 3h25, so I had to keep going!

It's clichΓ©, but, 'When your legs get tired, run with your heart'. That's exactly what I did.

Thanks to Saturn for another awesome event, particularly to Charlotte and Melanie for keeping me hydrated throughout the race.
I, of course, followed up with further hydration in the pub last night.

(Sunday 10th May):

RunThrough Gatwick Half Marathon:

I was back to pacing duties on 3rd May at Worthing RunFest and 10th May at my local half. The Gatwick half start line was literally a 10 minute walk from where I live!

This was a lovely flat course until 13 miles in and I'd been asked to pace 2 hours, so nice and steady after 60km worth of races the day before.

I thoroughly enjoy pacing and supporting runners to get round the course in their desired times. It was great fun and, as always with me, very chatty!

Congratulations also to the runners and supporters from The Gym Group Crawley who provide the best vibes and had some awesome running achievements on Sunday in both the 5k and the half!

(Saturday 9th May Evening)

Phoenix Running West Sussex Sunset Run:

After I finished volunteering, I met up with my mum and stepdad before heading to Ardingly Activity Centre for the evening 5/10k race with Phoenix West Sussex.

I love a twilight run and, after the 10k here, I'd completed my longest running distance in a day since breaking my femur.

Vern, Joanne and Christian, who organise and run these events, are very welcoming and I was immediately glad I'd made the decision to run.

The route was a 2.5km out/2.5km back, so 1 lap for the 5km and 2 for the 10km. I love the trail course with a few undulations, vuy pretty much flat, especially compared to the morning's route!

I found it quite funny as we all queued up on the start line and had the, "3, 2, 1, GO!" countdown, but nobody moved. I therefore got the race going by sprinting off and winning for the first couple of 100m until Rik decided to catch up and overtake me, then someone else.
I ran with a lovely guy for a few km, but after hitting about 6km, I let him go as I was slowing down.

As Rik raced the 5km, I was 3rd overall in the 10k and 1st female in 49m50s - my slowest 10k post injury, but I was glad to get under 50 minutes!

After a quick chat with some runners and some sweet eating, my dad and stepmum arrived and we headed to the pub for birthday drinks πŸΈπŸ˜€.

All in all, a fab day!

(Saturday 9th May)

Run To The Sea Brighton:

This was my first event with Ultra Violet and certainly won't be my last. A brilliant birthday ultra!

It was a big day for me. I ran my first mile on 9th May 2025 and, on that date in 2024, I couldn't even walk.

As well as running, I opted to volunteer, something I've really enjoyed doing at running events over the past 10 months. I therefore helped with directions from 7-8.15am, then ran from 8.20 (there were waves evert 2 minutes from 8am).

The first 14 miles or so were pretty flat along the Downslink from Christ's Hospital in Horsham. I ran the first 7 with a lovely lad called Cormac, then got to the aid station and lost him. I found some more people to chat to and was soon at the mile 14 checkpoint!

Soon after, I think near Steyning, we hit a big hill, so I mostly walked! When we reached the flat, we were on a road with a huge camber, so it was awkward to get going. This followed by rolling hills and beautiful scenery!

At mile 20, I caught up with Sean Jordan who'd set off in an earlier wave and had evidently been sprinting along! I struggled to keep up, but soon overtook him.

Eventually, at about mile 25, we hit a field that was perfectly runnable and I flew until marathon distance; checkpoint 4! The team at this checkpoint were brilliant. So efficient, so friendly!

I carried along with the undulating route, through parks, across fields, up hills and, finally, along the promenade to the finish line on Hove Lawns!

I was relieved to finish in 4h56, which placed me as 3rd female and 32nd over all (out of 360 ish). Unfortunately 2nd female, in an earlier wave, was 2 seconds faster than me!!
However, I was not overtaken by anyone throughout the 50k!!

After finishing, I helped out cheering people in, general dogsbody and filling up goody bags, drinks etc. which I love as I thoroughly enjoy supporting and interacting with other runners!

It was SO lovely to see Graham Malt and Helen Littlebury who I haven't seen for ages, but are always both so genuinely kind and supportive. Congratulations to Graham on your age category win! P.S. Sorry for nicking your photo. The official ones don't come out until Tuesday!

Marathon 356 - Saturn Running (Too):

After pacing a half the day before, I was looking forward to running flag-free!

I enjoyed a steady run and, at mile 8, ran with Richard Williams until the end of the lap/mile, which was lovely! I ran alone for the rest of the race, but enjoyed it and was subject to James Braithwaite's bullying which I've really missed over the past couple of years!!

This was one of those days where I realise I could've/should've got a sub 3:30, but ah well, it was faster than the other three marathons I ran in the past month ... or rather two years!!

Thanks Leon Hicks, Amanda and Nathan. Another win in the bag!

What I got up to last month ... volunteering at the inaugural Ultra X Sahara.

Day 1 was hot, Day 2 we accessed the checkpoint by camel, Day 3 we saw ostriches, lizards and walked through rivers, Day 4 there was a sudden thunderstorm and Day 5 was the final stage of an epic week.

There were a lot more crazy adventures outside of the race too!!

Marathon 355 - Saturn Running The Nearly But Not Quite London Marathon Run:

It seems like forever since I last wrote a race report!

This morning started off steady as I helped with set up and covered registration. I wasn't feeling my full self, probably due to my poor diet yesterday!

I started running with a couple of runners who were doing the 10k (they'd cycled 25 miles to the event and cycled back home afterwards!). It was lovely to run with others. The pace was slower, but I was there to enjoy running and not race as such.

The first part of the run was fairly smooth and I was happy!! After 22 miles (35km) and definitely in the final 3.1 miles (5km), I felt horrendous. I bimbled my way round in a slow plod and tried to keep smiling.

Upon finishing I collapsed in a tearful heap, but Chrissy and Melanie gave me lots of support, warmth and kindness which certainly helped me to brighten up.

It was absolutely lovely to see Chrissy and also Sophia, Jagjit, Andrew and others.

Congratulations to Jagjit and Andrew for running their 599th marathons (they coincidentally also ran the same race for their first marathon back in 2004!). There were lots of first time marathon runners, which is always fantastic to see.

Thank you Saturn for another excellent event.

Now I'm volunteering at Spring Trails with Ultra X !

This morning's bimble ...

Not every run has to be fast, far, strong, or spectacular. Getting out the door is an achievement in itself.

I was 1.5 miles into my little run when I felt some pain in my femur. My legs weren't feeling super speedy anyway, so I plodded along at a super steady pace and enjoyed being out on the trails, then running around the lake at . Bimbling down the hills made me look forward to being fit and free where I can fly down them!

Enjoy the little things. Enjoy the little wins πŸ˜ƒπŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ’•

I know I have barely posted in the past couple of years, other than the odd Instagram share.

It's been an incredibly tough couple of years since breaking my femur, but I've also managed to stay much more positive than expected. The injury really helped me to take a step back in many ways and just be present.

Since May 2025, I have been increasing my running distances from 300m, to 1 mile, to 5k etc. and paced a fair few 10ks and half marathons for RunThrough and other companies, as well as tailrunning for various companies. I completed 3x 50ks st Goodwood as a tail for RunThrough and also paced a 10k in Spain in January 2026.

After pacing the Original Marathon and Kingston Breakfast Run 20 miler one weekend in March, I realised I could run a steady marathon ...
.. yesterday I turned up at a Saturn Running event for the first time in over 2 years. I fancied running a half, or maybe 17.5 miles if I felt ok ...

I ran (and won) a marathon.

Today, I arrived to definitely *NOT* run a marathon. 26.2 miles later, I decided to stop. Martin Richard Bush told me at 5 miles in that he knew I'd run a marathon. He clearly knows me better than I know myself!!

I've really enjoyed not having the pressure and slowly building my strength and fitness up. Yes, my legs felt heavy today, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not just the running, but seeing the runners, being at Saturn and the whole camaraderie and atmosphere attached to that.

2 marathons in 2 days, 2 marathons in 2 years.
