SBOV Sundays 2-1 Tamar View

And we are back for the 22/23 Season. Whilst a home fixture for SBOV, we found ourselves away from the Oak Villa on Manadon Astroturf which is apparently located about 4 feet from the surface of the sun.

Unfortunately there were some notable absentees from the matchday squad, with regular skipper Jack Davies out with a pretend hamstring injury, Hayden Mccormick preferring to spend time with his Mrs and Jake Lannin-spick escaping the heat and going to Barcelona. Nevertheless a great time to see new signings in action with Morgan and frosty making the matchday squad.

The match started slowly, with both sides struggling with the heat. We had some good periods of possession but Tamar View remained compact, chances were limited and neither side could capitalise on chances and the half ended 0-0.

The second half saw an injection of energy, with both sides moving the ball quickly. SB grew quickly into the game and about 10 minutes into the half an break down the left hand side was cut into Vice Captain Daniel Morahan about 25 yards out- he took one touch out of his feet and rocketed the ball into the top right hand corner, rattling the underside of the crossbar on its way into the net. Almost a sure thing for goal of the season already. 1-0 to SB.

Perhaps still mesmerised by how great the goal was SB were then caught sleeping, a carefully placed through ball split our defence and the Tamar View striker made it 1-1.

SB then rallied and through some great link up play George Davies played the ball through to last season's top goalscorer Jay Smith where he opened his tally with a tidy finish. 2-1 SB.

With a chance from Nicholas Cotton, threading a ball through the box just needing a tap in. And another from George deciding to swing a spaghetti leg at the ball rather than play a team mate through 1v1 we had failed to put the game out of reach.

Pressure was building through the final minutes with Tamar Views press culminating in a flying back post header from the TV captain. It would have levelled the game but for an unbelievable save from Brice Shields managing instead to parry it out for a corner.

The game ended 2-1 and SB have 3 points on the board. Up the SB.

SBOV 3-0 Abbots Way

The first game of pre season for the boys in yellow and green was here, and what a scorcher of a day it was down at Weston Mill. After a successful end of season do last weekend it was time for the new management team to secure their first win. Having turned his back on the mighty SB, ex Gaffer Ryan Lancaster somehow found himself playing in goal. Nothing of note happened in the first half, however Brice Shields did claim he came on and changed the game, the score remained 0-0.

Subs a plenty due to the nature of a friendly, it was a substitute who was to score our first. A delicious corner from the rejuvenated Jak Plummer, saw Billy Mcgowan score a header at the back post. The second another corner from Plummer, Hayden Mccormick with the header this time. The third and final goal of the day, the best of the lot from target man George Davies with a lovely touch and finish. 3-0 the game finished.

Good to be back, and more pre season games to come. Up the SB!

BREAKING NEWS!🟡🟢
The club would like to announce it has parted ways with manager Ryan Lancaster. We would like to thank him for his efforts over the 21/22 season and wish him well his next managerial opportunity. We will look quickly to appoint a new manager with decent banter and someone who will attend team night outs.

Horrabridge 3-5 SBOV Sundays

The penultimate game of the 21/22 season saw us take a trip to bottom of the table Horrabridge. After a season of ups and downs, the boys were hoping to finish on a high and wrap up the year finishing above the usual suspects.

With the tradition of the "no contribution shot" lingering over those who hadn't scored this season, our first goal came from a man who waited all season to put the ball in the back of the net. Ryan Willmott with a bullet header at the back post from a Jay Smith corner. The second straight after, and a delightful goal at that, George Davies with a delicious volley to make it 2-0 after less than 10 mins on the clock. With us clearly dominating, the next goal was surely to come our way? 3627 shots later from Cieran Bridger.... it was Horrabridge who scored the next goal. Jack Birkett, making his goalkeeping debut, stepped in for the let down Dave Carroll, but couldn't prevent the ball looping over his head... something which has taken many an SB keeper. 2-1 at HT.

The second half started just as sloppy as the first finished, an open goal for the opposition made it 2-2. Thankfully our former cornish Cafu, George Davies made it into double figures for the season with a beautifully worked first time finish. SB's fourth came moments later, a foul on Ryan Thorrington saw top goalscorer Jay put away his 27th of the season.

Horrabridge scored again however, a rather blatant foul was ignored and a tidy top bins finish made it 4-3. Fortunately, Ryan Thorrington was on hand to tap away our 5th of the day and wrap up the win.

Queen & Con 9 vs 1 SBOV Sundays

With the end of the season nearing closer, the boys headed down to brickfields for our penultimate game of the season. With the season almost over and the table positions pretty much set in stone, we had a lack of players at our disposal. This meant that we had to call in a few ringers to ensure we had 11 available. These included, Jak Plummer, who has just returned from a knee injury, Isaac Lannin-Spick (The second-best Lannin-Spick available) & cult legend Martin Graham.

With the boy’s semi warmed up, we headed out. The sun was shining, and the surface was rather bobbly on this Sunday morning, this made it a little hard to maintain possession. Queen & Con within the first 15 mins had the better chances, but it was Alex Hambly who opened the scoring with a delicious strike on the edge of the box. The goal came as a bit of a shock against the league leaders and a bit of hope was installed in the boys.

With our heads high, the boys started to go through the motions and play some great football. Unfortunately, Queen & Con from this point battered us until the final whilst. The score ended 9-1 I think, and we cba to explain or remember their goals.

Isaac Lannin-Spick on his return to action unfortunately broke his toe, he is now out for the rest of the season and will be missed dearly.

Congrats to Queen & Con on the win. Our next game is away at Horrabridge on the 28th of May, but I doubt many players will be available for this either.

SBOV 5-3 South Brent

Back to back games against South Brent saw us return to winning ways. After the disappointing defeat last week the boys bounced back well and ensured it was another league season of 6 points from 6 against Brent. Plenty of changes in the starting line up, and slightly less fans on the sidelines witness SBOV boss the game despite a rather flattering scoreline to the opposition.

Our first came from Mr Consistent Jake Holloway, searching for his first goal of the season, Bubs was played at LM for the first time. A delicious free kick delivered in by Jay Smith saw a cute flick make its way into the back of the net early doors. With SBOV clearly ontop, the opposition were fortunate to be gifted their first goal of the day. A misplaced defensive pass from the useless Sam Jessep saw the Brent striker with an easy finish to level the scoring.

We were quick to get back into the lead, a beautiful cross in again, this time from MOTM Jake Lannin-spick saw Jay Smith return to goal scoring action with a tidy finish. Time for us to kick on? No, another defensive mistake! We won’t name names, but our keeper left his box and gifted the ball away 40 yards from his goal and allowed another cheap easy goal to level the scoring again. Hayden Mccormick won us a penalty to restore the lead, sadly Smithy blazed over from 12 yards. 2-2 at HT. A noteable mention for Dean Ball who left the field early after sustaining a beaut of a black eye after the South brent striker followed up on last weeks flying elbow with another this week.

Clearly on top, SBOV scored early into the second half, atoning for his earlier error, our keeper Dave Carrott sent the ball forward into a delicious area, only substitute Brice Shields to get a cheeky touch to make it 3-2. Thankfully, it was the turn of Brent to make a defensive mistake this time, to which Smithy scored his second. SBOV again, Jack Davies played a delightful diagonal ball to Daniel Morahan who unselfishly played a sweaty pass to Smithy to score his hattrick. Things come in threes; just like Brent’s third, another defensive mistake allowed a tap in.

5-3 the game finished with Brent going down to 10 men with not long left in the game after some expletives aimed at the referee. Only 2 games left for the boys in Yellow and Green, up the SB!

SBOV Sundays 1-2 South Brent

Well well well… Our run in the cup came to an end today after a poor result at home. The scene was set for a great game as both teams seemed up for it for the get go.

The surface was excellent and crowds came out for this Sunday morning spectacle. With the boys extremely warm after a 1 and a half hour warm up, the game kicked off!

It was a feisty and cagey affair in the first half. Both sides were reluctant to concede first which lead to a lack of clear opportunities. Both sides suffered casualties with a Brent player being subbed off after a perfect tackle from Sam Jessep. Ryan Thorrington also had to leave the field after rolling his ankle.

We dominated a lot of possession and managed to carve out a few shots on goal. Daniel Morahan had the best of chances after completing 7 cruyff turns before dispatching a effort that was cleared off the line. Not much separated the two teams and we headed into halftime at 0-0.

The game plan stayed the same for us in the second half as we looked to create some more big chances. Most of the football was played within the oppositions half and our best chance of the game fell to Dan Morahan who surprisingly shot first time to make it 1-0. The goal came from some good football down the left flank and a accurate cross into our number 10.

After the goal, SB grew in confidence and started to play some more direct football. Unfortunately, a soft foul on the Brent striker lead to a freekick on the edge of our area. This was dispatched into the top corner, leaving questions marks over Dove Carrots height.

Despite conceding, the boys continued to dominate possession and created a few opportunities that narrowly missed the target. We were also denied a blatant penalty after Jay Smith was pushed in the back in the box. As the game grew on, tensions were high and a challenge from Hayden Mccormick encapsulated the heated game. This subsequently lead to a freekick which South Brent whipped into the box. This was latched onto by the Brents centre back making it 2-1 in the dying embers.

We didn’t have enough time to find an equaliser and we sadly exited the cup after a disappointing performance. The search continues for the SB man who was meant to be marking Brent’s goal scorer.

The boys will be looking for revenge next week as we play Brent again in the league.

Up the SB 💚💛
