The Organising Group for the Hardwick 10k Road Race is very sad to join the tributes to its Race Director, Mike Bravin, who passed away earlier this month. Mike was respected throughout the road race community and contributed to the success of the annual Hardwick 10k race. It is no exaggeration to say that without his stewardship, the race would not take place in its current format. He guided the Organising Group through all the steps necessary to make it a successful event, noted for the degree of organisation and planning, which is commented favourably upon by many participants. It is particularly poignant as Mike was planning to make the 40th running of the race a special event, celebrating the life of Cyril Leeson, who founded the race and who passed away last year. Participants will be called to honour both Mike and Cyril by clapping for a minute at the start of this year’s race.
We join Mike’s family in mourning the loss of a great friend, who willingly gave his time to make our race special

Hardwick10k Thursday July 16th.The race started in 1981 by Cyril Leeson who sadly passed away late last year.There will be a minute’s applause before the race starts. It was always a favourite race of mine,did it several times,although of course the Hardwick Hill was much steeper then.Pictured is my race medal from 1984 37.11 24 th position.I think the first 40 received medals.When I became race director,I changed it to a 10k,increased the prize list and rewarded runners with a quality commemorative t shirt.Entries look like setting a new record for the 40 th Anniversary.Nearly 400 already,650 limit.Further details are on the Hardwick10k website.

Celebrating our 40th Anniversary of the Hardwick10k on July 16th we have repainted the Hardwick10k logo ruby red.

In 1981 Cyril Leeson initiated the first Hardwick Run and continued organising it for nearly 30 years .Sadly Cyril passed away last week at the age of 87. I ran the race many times and suspect many runners offer their condolences to Cyril’s family.However,his legacy remains,the 40th running of the race will be on Thursday July 16th 2026 which will be a chance to celebrate Cyril’s life and the 40 th running of the race,Entries will probably open April 2nd.
