I feel like there should be a leaflet handed out with your first class. A proper one. With side effects listed.

Things like:
⚠️Noticing you've been holding your shoulders up by your ears for the last 20 years.
⚠️ May result in realising how tight your hips actually are
⚠️ Can cause unexpected improvement in sleep quality
⚠️ Side effects include standing taller and strangers asking what you've changed
⚠️ Some students report feeling things in muscles they'd completely forgotten about
⚠️ Warning: you may start looking forward to it

In all seriousness — Pilates has a funny way of quietly improving things you didn't even know needed improving.

I've been teaching for years and I still love the moment a student says "I didn't expect that."

Running away from injuries. Into Pilates. 🩵

My Pilates journey started the way a lot of people's do, not because I was looking for a class, but because my body was trying to tell me something.

I'm a runner. Have been for years. And I needed something that would keep me moving without constantly breaking down. Pilates was that thing.

When I became the owner of the Natural Fitness Centre in Eastbourne, where we ran Pilates classes every week, I thought: right, let's do this properly. So I trained as a teacher.

And I haven't looked back.

What I didn't expect is how much I'd love the teaching part. I genuinely love it. My students tell me my enthusiasm runs the session — which, if you know me, you'll find absolutely zero surprise.

We work hard. We have a laugh. Nobody's judged for wobbling. And I promise you'll leave feeling better than when you walked in.

It's one of the things I hear most from new members and I always want to reassure people, because it's almost never true.

My beginner Pilates classes in Eastbourne and Pevensey Bay have welcomed people in their late 50s, 60s, and beyond — people who hadn't done anything structured in years, people coming back after illness or injury, people who'd never tried Pilates in their lives.

Something worth knowing especially if you've noticed your body changing in the last few years.

A lot of what people put down to "getting older" is actually about movement. Specifically, how much load we're putting through our muscles and bones.

When that reduces as it often does naturally as routines change — strength, balance and bone density start to gradually decline.

It's not alarming. It's just how bodies work. And the really encouraging thing is that it responds well to the right kind of exercise, at any age, at any starting point.

Pilates works on core strength, balance, posture and flexibility together and it does it in a way that's achievable from scratch, without needing to push hard or feel rough the day after.

One of the things people appreciate most about how I run my classes — and I mention it because it seems to genuinely put people at ease.

There's no permanent class. No "every Tuesday at 10am, forever."

I run 14 classes across the week in Eastbourne and Pevensey Bay and you're welcome to dip into a different one whenever it suits you.

If Tuesday's not working one week, come on Thursday.

If you're away one week, simply don't come. No awkward conversations, no guilt, no catching up.

Pilates should fit around your life, not the other way round.
