“A frustrating afternoon for the PEV as we fell to a 7–5 defeat away to Little Common II in a game where, despite the scoreline, we felt we did enough to take at least a point.
There were plenty of positives in the performance. We played some of the better football throughout the game, created chances and showed plenty of attacking intent, scoring five goals away from home.
However, our own mistakes ultimately cost us. Sloppy errors and a lack of discipline gave Little Common opportunities that they were able to punish, including two penalties conceded. In a game as open and competitive as this one, those moments proved decisive.
The goals came from Joe Sherriff, Will Skilton, Ryan Gilbert and captain Jamie Putland, who grabbed a brace. Five goals on the road would normally give you a very good chance of taking something from the game, but unfortunately it wasn't to be today.
Player of the Match — Ryan Gilbert
A standout performance from Ryan Gilbert in the centre of midfield. Ryan was 100% committed from the first whistle to the last, battling for everything, covering ground and helping drive the team forward.
He capped off an excellent individual performance with a fantastic goal, making him a deserved Man of the Match.
There is plenty to take from today, but also plenty to learn from. We know we need to cut out the sloppy mistakes, improve our discipline and be better in the key moments.
Five goals scored. Plenty of good football. Plenty to build on.
