Food for thought!

Protein is an important part of our diet and key to building and maintaining all types of body tissue, including muscle.

It contains amino acids, the building blocks used for muscle and other tissue growth.

Ultimately whether you get your protein from meat or non-meat products the importance remains to ensure you consume a variety of different sources

In addition to working your back, pull-ups are a fantastic way of strengthening your shoulders, forearms, and chest. They also engage your abs, including the transverse abdominis, making them a great exercise for targeting many of the major muscles in the body.

Client Introduction.
George is someone I have grown up with and I am very happy to say later this year will soon officially become part of the family as my brother in law!
George has set himself some goals which are all achievable but can be progressed, modified and measured.
The emphasis and focus has been on performance rather than purely aesthetic targets.
Most importantly and excitingly he has found himself in a place where his work/life balance have aligned and he is enjoying increasing his activity levels and enjoying the benefits of engaging in physical activity.
After moving back to Hampshire from Oxford I can hand on heart admit that he helped me resettle and get involved with bouldering which was instrumental in my own fitness and health journey.
I can’t wait to see how things develop from here on out and it is an absolute privilege to be part of George’s journey.

Nordic curl challenge

We had a bit of fun at the end of the session giving this exercise a go.

The Nordic curl activates the hamstrings (back of your thighs) using your bodyweight.

The aim is to now try and increase the range of movement over the coming weeks.

Total daily energy expenditure is amount of energy/calories used by the body each day.
At rest the body requires a certain number of calories in order to sustain life.
Eating food will increase this number with protein eliciting the greatest effect.
Organised exercise such as gym session, running, cycling or sporting activity will further increase your calorie needs. However most of us have a limited amount of time to dedicate to organised activity.
So the greatest opportunity to increase our energy expenditure comes from non-essential activity (NEAT). This includes things like walking going to the shops, fidgeting, gardening or taking the stairs instead of escalator and elevators.
So have a think about some ways you can increase your daily activity levels through some small lifestyle changes and increase your total daily energy expenditure

Behaviour change is not a linear process and adopting new and healthier lifestyle choices doesn’t happen over night. It can often be a lengthy process. But taking the time to recognise your readiness to change weighing up the benefits of changing is a great place to start.
Gradually introducing small incremental changes such as taking the time to break up your day with 3 10 minute walks, or parking further away from work or introducing 1 extra portion of fruit or vegetables to each meal might be a great way to start.
The key is to not take on too much at once and recognising what motivates you.
