Happy Birthday, Tomas Urbonas !
Head Coach & Club Director
Today we would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to Tomas Urbonas, while also recognising the passion, energy and commitment he continues to put into basketball and youth sport across Aberdeenshire.
Tomas coaches with Panthers Basketball Club , is Head Coach of Grampian Ignite U16, and is the founder of Peterhead basketball club Bloo Toon Bulls, created to give local children the opportunity to play basketball, stay active and enjoy being part of a team.
Through UT SkillsBasketball , Tomas also works with players individually, helping them develop their basketball skills, confidence and understanding of the game.
His passion for basketball also takes him beyond the regular club environment. Through Activity School programmes and other school and community activities, he uses basketball and sport to introduce more young people to the game, keep them active and give them the opportunity to experience the positive side of being involved in sport.
What stands out is his willingness to get involved, share ideas and keep looking for ways to bring more young people into basketball. Whether through coaching, individual skills sessions, Activity School, community events or creating new opportunities in Peterhead, the goal remains the same — to help more young people discover basketball and enjoy being active.
For Tomas, basketball is about much more than the result on the scoreboard. It is about friendship, respect, confidence, teamwork and creating a sense of belonging.
The friendships and experiences young people gain through sport can stay with them for life. They learn to work together, support each other and become part of something bigger than themselves.
That is the real value of grassroots basketball.

ONE YEAR OF BLOO TOON BULLS
15 September 2025 – 15 September 2026
Today marks one year since Peterhead Basketball Club – Bloo Toon Bulls was founded.
What started with a vision to give children in our community an opportunity to play basketball has grown into something much bigger than we first imagined.
Our first official training session took place on 7 January 2026. Since then, we have watched children step onto the court for the first time, overcome nerves, learn new skills, make new friends and grow in confidence.
For us, basketball has never been only about winning games.
It is about creating a positive environment where young people can feel welcome, work hard, learn from mistakes, respect others and be proud to be part of something.
Over this first year, we have continued to build the foundations of our club — developing our teams, creating opportunities for players, investing in equipment, building relationships within our community and working towards a long-term future for basketball in Peterhead.
None of this would have been possible without the people who have supported us along the way.
To every player who has walked through our doors, every parent who has trusted us with their children, every volunteer, sponsor, organisation and supporter who has helped us — thank you.
And a special thank you to the 312 people who follow our journey on Facebook. Your support, engagement, shares and encouragement help us reach more families, grow our community and continue improving the club.
You are not just followers. You are part of the journey.

WE’RE BACK ON COURT!
The summer break is officially over — and tonight the Older Group (12–17) was back doing what they love!
Big energy. Big smiles. Hard work. Plenty of basketball.
But it’s not just about learning how to play basketball. It’s about building confidence, making friends, challenging yourself and being part of a team.
Every player starts somewhere. You don’t need to be the best. You just need to show up, work hard and enjoy the game.
If your child is 12–17 and wants to try basketball, come and join us! No experience needed — just give it a go. 👊

WE'RE BACK!
What a fantastic first training session after the summer break!
So many smiles, positive energy and happy faces around the court. Plenty of loud celebrations, high-fives and screams of excitement after those beautiful shots went in! It was brilliant to see how much the children are enjoying basketball and how their interest, confidence and love for the game continue to grow. A huge thank you to all the parents for bringing your children to training, supporting them and giving them the opportunity to be part of something positive. Basketball is not just about learning to play the game. It's about being active, making friends, building confidence and, most importantly, being happy.
And there’s honestly nothing better than finishing training by beating the parents on the basketball court! 😂🏀.

1587 Peterhead already had a school.
For more than 400 years, schools, buildings, streets and the town itself have continued to change.
In 1846, Peterhead Academy was established.
In 1891, a new Academy building opened.
In 1974, Meethill School opened.
And today, Peterhead is once again building a new Academy — a new building for future generations.
But all of this makes me think about one simple question:
Who will be learning in these buildings 20 or 30 years from now?
Because the future of a town is not just about buildings.
The future of a town is its people.
And people begin with children.
Families, children, schools, sport and community are not separate things.
They are all part of the same chain.
Family gives a child a home.
Education gives them knowledge.
Sport gives them discipline, confidence and a team.
Community gives them a sense of belonging.
And together, all of this helps build the future of our town.
That is why when we talk about basketball in Peterhead, I don't want to talk only about wins and losses.
I want to talk about children.
About families.
About the kind of town we want to leave for the next generation.
Because one day, today's children will become parents themselves.
They will become teachers, coaches, business owners, workers, volunteers and community leaders.
And one day, their children may walk through the same school doors that we are building today.
That is what building the future of a town really means.
It is not only about building a new building.
It is about raising a generation of people who will want to live here, learn here and build their future here.
Give a child a ball.
Give a child a place to belong.
Give a family a reason to stay.
Give a town a future.
Peterhead’s future starts with its children.
