This is me at 17 years old back in 2003
I went to Stamford college to study sports operations. I did a 2 year course of event organising, working with schools and people with in the local community.
When the course came to an end i had to think about what i was going to do career wise. i knew i enjoyed Fitness and already had a training routine i was sticking to.
In 2005 i start working at Bannatyne health club as a cleaner in member care. I did this for about a year and a half. I wanted to work with members on the gym floor, a job opportunity came up and i went for it. Probably the last job interview i had before getting the job on the gym floor.
I spent a lot of years on the gym floor where i gained a lot of experience with different types of people who wanted gym programmes. I started personal training while still working on the gym floor. Id train clients after my shift as it would work out better financially.
With the right kind of encouragement with my fitness manager Richard we got me to take the leap into self employment. It was a case of if i don’t do it now i never will. I officially went self employed at 27 years old. After many years I’m happy to say I’m still going strong at 40 and have a great bunch of clients who have stuck by me for 10 years plus.
If you are every in a position where you don’t really know what you want to do work wise. Remember to get into something that you enjoy. I didn’t go the sports route but it lead me into a career in fitness. I hope to go on to bigger and better things as i progress with my business Rotation Fitness.
Here is to many more years of self employment doing what i love and helping clients reach their full potential 💪
