Being a good athlete doesn’t make someone a good coach.
Most of the fitness industry has those two things confused.

The lad who’s lean year-round, lifting big numbers, training six days a week, probably has a genetic profile, training history, and life setup that’s nothing like yours.

What got him there is not what gets you there. He’s not a bad person. He’s just answering a different question to the one you’re asking.

Coaching isn’t doing what worked for me and handing it to you.

Coaching is looking at your age, your training history, your life, your injuries, your sleep, your stress, your relationship with food, your week as it actually runs, and building something that fits.

The 22-year-old single bloke with two hours a day and no kids is not the template.

Neither am I.

Neither is anyone you follow on Instagram.

You don’t need to copy someone else’s plan harder.

You need a plan built for the person you actually are.

If you’ve ever followed a coach’s programme to the letter and wondered why it didn’t work for you, this is why.

It’s not a new programme, new shoes, the latest peptide or whatever else your brains come up with.

It’s the early mornings.
It’s the repetition.
It’s the obsession with moving forward.

Pick the goal and make it big. Tell those around you. Commit to yourself.

“I was gonna do that once” - yeh well you didn’t, did you.

Don’t be that person.

The amount of messages and responses I’ve had from people when they receive updates at the crack of dawn is comical.

It’s taken me years to understand my sleep/wake cycle. I’ve had a job on my hands fixing (managing at best, let’s be honest) a messed up cortisol rhythm.

Early mornings are when I’m sharpest.
It’s quiet, there’s minimal “pull” from life and my brain is firing on all cylinders.

I’m an “up and functioning in 2 minutes” kinda person.

You might be different, you might be sharpest later or you might simply prefer later nights.

It literally doesn’t matter.

What matters is you understand your own rhythm, you challenge your current thinking and you find that routine that genuinely fits.

Play to your strengths.
