A difficult and emotional few words from me, Kate.
This season has been a mixed one. Too many days lost to flat seas, mental swells, and relentless winds — the kind of challenges that come with working with the sea. But truthfully, it’s been more than just the waves and weather this year.
Our surf school has never been just a business — it’s a family. It’s Gav, my husband, the original soul of the school. It’s Gabriel, our son, who arrived the same year we started this journey. It’s our daughter, Mesi, and our nephews, Ruben a legend when it came to coaching and simply my right hand man and everything else ❤️ and Ned, who coached with heart and humour for years. It’s Queenie, Granny Maeve, and Alfie holding the fort. Faye, Lila, and Daisy and Grace also being there in the tent. Literally the whole family .
Our hound Milo! 🐾
And this year, the love has been insane 🫶
It’s also all the incredible coaches who’ve come through and become more than just staff — they’ve become family.
And it’s you — our amazing customers and our local community.
From the parents who bring their kids down in all weathers, to the familiar faces who return year after year, to those who check in, share kind words, and remind us why we do what we do — your support has carried us more than you know.
Thank you.
This year’s team has been nothing short of phenomenal.
I love you all ❤️
You’ve shown up with strength, talent, knowledge, compassion, and commitment. I’m so proud of what we’ve built and of every single one of you who’s helped shape it.
We’ve been a little quieter lately. Some of that’s down to the sea — she hasn’t always played fair. Days upon days closed , refunds and cancellations did take it toll.
But I’ve also been navigating something personal.
Now onto the part that’s hard to say...
A couple of weeks ago and confirmed this week . I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
It’s early stage (hopefully), but there are still more tests and treatment ahead. The past couple of years have brought their share of health battles, but I’ve kept showing up on the beach when I can — and I’ll be there again tomorrow with a school group, doing what I love.
We’re planning to keep going until October half term, weather permitting.
Lessons are live online now, so if you're keen to get in the water, please book in — we’d love to see you.
I don’t know exactly what this autumn has in store, but I do know this:
I plan to be back on the beach in April 2026.
Perranporth Surf School will still be open , don’t listen to the jungle drums! — and we’re already looking forward to welcoming back our lovely schools and surfers in 2026 ❤️
To our coaches, past and present, thank you.
To the Piran crew 🫶 your unwavering support and care this past year has meant the world.
Thank you to the Jobs.
Thank you to the RNLI guys, the beach officers, Peg and Annie.
And to our customers and the Perranporth community — your kindness, your presence, your belief in us… it means everything.
With love and gratitude,
See you soon.
I’ve got this
