We live and work by the sea in Perranporth, Cornwall. I am an artist, with a passion for surfing. I first learnt to surf as a youngster in the chilly waters around Scarborough.
Mags spends her spare time on the beach and in the sea. We were concerned about all the air miles used importing surf wax from the USA, the use of petrochemicals in their production and their effect on the aquatic environment. We decided to make our own!
We developed our own hand made surf wax, rigorously testing it ourselves and with the help of other willing surfers, far and wide. It worked well, only contained natural substances and did not therefore cause environmental damage.
About the ingredients: it was important to us to obtain the wax from sustainable sources, so we learnt about the art of bee keeping and we now house colonies of honey bees at home and around the local area. We don’t take honey from the bees and instead leave it for them to store and eat. We focus on building healthy colonies of pollinators, essential for the health of the planet. We take a small amount of wax each year, to make the surf wax.
