It saddens us to write that we have been left no option but to fold the first team and will not be fielding any adult sides in the 2023/24 season. Due to a large volume of players leaving and not enough coming in there was little chance of getting a side together for the start of the season in a months time.

Its a sad time for all those involved in the club, we can only thank those that have been loyal and represented the badge in recent seasons. To all 3 manager’s across both teams last year, Wayne House, Rob Gall and Phil Harvey for guiding the club through difficult times. Thank you also to Phil Williamson and everyone at Rosudgeon Club for doing all they could to keep the side going.

Hopefully we will see the oxen in action once again further down the line πŸ‚πŸ‚

RESULT (16/05):
Rosudgeon 5
(Kalon Mayes x3, Darryl Richards, Sam Smith)
Wendron Thirds 5

10 goals, about 30 offsides and a ton of mistakes in the most end of season game ever πŸ˜‚. With neither side having anything to play for other than pride it was always going to be a little less intense especially given the hot conditions.

In the first half Wendron took the lead, a defence splitting pass through the middle found the striker who made no mistake in the 1v1. An equaliser came after a mistake at the back, a poor pass back to the keeper was pounced on by Darryl Richards who slotted home. It should of been much more for the oxen who had a number of chances but ultimately it ended 1-1 at the break.

Both sides made a number of changes at the break to ensure everyone got a good run out which opened the game up even more. Wendron retook the lead with an effort stand in keeper Brett Murton couldnt keep out, this was followed quickly by Kalon Mayes grabbing an equaliser after a lovely passing move starting from the back.

We then entered a manic few minutes, Wendron went 3-2 ahead after a poor clearance allowed the player to hit one from distance that sailed in. The oxen went straight up the other end, a cross into the area and Kalon was there to stab it home before Sam Smith decided β€œsod this” and hit an absolute screamer from long range that the keeper had no chance of saving 😍. And not long after it was 5-3, Kalon grabbing his hat trick and his 23rd goal of the season meaning he finishes as the Combos third top goalscorer; an incredible campaign πŸ’ͺ🏻.

Wendron were able to pull the game back level first through a penalty and then a powerful effort that Brett was unable to stop. But he did ensure the points were shared with a fantastic save in the dying minutes πŸ™Œ. Jamie Burr was subbed on for his last game before retirement, a brilliant player for many clubs and a real leader when needed for this club πŸ‚πŸ‚.

And that concludes the first team’s 2022/23 season, given the circumstances on and off the pitch it was a difficult season. But with the merging of the 2 sides there is a much brighter future ahead with a lot of talent within the squad to build. Thank you to all the players, Wayne House, Phil Williamson and everyone at the club for getting the side through this season πŸ‚.

RESULT:
St Agnes Reserves 4
Rosudgeon 0

A day where everything went wrong for the firsts today, a brilliant first half display by the home keeper stopped the boys going in with the advantage and they simply never got going from there.

From the start it was a game of poor quality at both ends with mis-timed clearances, passes and shots; exactly what you would expect given both sides position in the league table. And it was St Agnes who took their first real opportunity, breaking from a Rosudgeon corner they got through down the right wing and Connor was unlucky not to keep a powerful effort out.

The rest of the half was very much the best we saw of Rosudgeon this afternoon, good 1 touch passing saw them breaking through the backline but an inspired performance from the opposition goalkeeper kept the score at 1-0. The best being a fingertip save from Darryl Richards curling effort that looked destined for the top corner. But spirits were high after the end to the half for the first team, it was all about starting the second 45 in a positive way.

Unfortunately the opposite happened with a near carbon copy of the first goal, breaking down the right hand side and the attacker making no mistake in the one v one. From there the game tipped in St Agnes’ favour as the firsts now had to push more men forward in search of a way back into the game which left gaps at the back. The closest they came was a ball across the box from Rolandas with the defender getting in the right position to deny Darryl a tap in.

A third goal came from a penalty and a fourth a good finish from inside the box as the game completely got away from Rosudgeon. 2 games remaining for the next 2 Tuesdays, with both games at home please come and support the firsts as they come to the end of a difficult campaign πŸ‚πŸ‚.

Starting XI:
Connor Rushton/ Mick Blything, Will Garner, Tom Heywood, Ben Baker/ Henry CΓΈzens, Tyler Simmonds, Rolandas Sumnauskas, Darryl Richards, Gair Jenkin/ Kalon Mayes

Subs Used:
Cory Gall, Dan Hopkins, Rob Christopher

πŸ—žπŸš¨ 2 Teams to become 1

After last nights game a meeting was held to decide the future of the club going forward. Due to both teams struggling this season to get regular sides out and having to forfeit fixtures on occasions the decision has been made to have 1 team going into the 2023/24 season.

Details of what division this side will compete in, what the management structure will look like etc. will be revealed at a future club AGM. Once again, the club would like to say thank you to the players, managers and everyone up at the club that have kept this club going this season. Lets get these final games over the line and look forward to the future πŸ‚πŸ‚.

RESULT (18/04):
Rosudgeon 2
(Kalon Mayes, Gair Jenkin)
Pendeen Rovers 5

A blistering start from the firsts who took a 2-0 lead was undone in the end by a determined Pendeen side whose fitness and quality in front of goal proved the difference.

An unfortunate injury to Pendeen’s number 1 keeper in the warm up meant a switch up in that position and it seemed this caused a lack of cohesion at the back as the Oxen took the lead within 15 seconds! A lapse in concentration was pounced upon by Kalon who slotted the ball home for his 19th goal of the season.

And 10 minutes in the home side were in dreamland, a fantastic over the top ball from Josh Findlay played Gair in who finished brilliantly. It was a fantastic opening 20-25 minutes from the oxen who really took the game to their opponents, but then a communication mixup at the back allowed Pendeen in to get a goal back as the winger slotted home. And around 5 minutes after that the scores were level, the pace down the wings already proving a huge problem, the left winger getting free down that side to play across goal for the unmarked player to tap it in.

The rest of the half fizzled out slightly with Rosudgeon tightening up and trying to play a much higher line to try and catch their opponents offside. This continued into the second half as the boys tried to push up and cause issues, a few chances went begging for the home side to retake the lead. The best chance being a ball to the back post which Anthony Nicholas couldn’t steer inside the post.

But as Rosudgeon’s legs started to go, the away sides confidence kept growing and with around 25 minutes left they began to dominate. They took the lead when a brilliant through ball was pounced upon by the striker who stroked the ball home under the onrushing keeper Connor Rushton. They then repeated pretty much the same goal for their 4th and 5th; through balls through the centre and the pace of the attacking players too much to handle.

The better team won in the end but Rosudgeon can take so many positives from this performance as they head into their final 4 games, great effort all round and a good game for the neutrals as well πŸ‚πŸ‚.

Starting XI:
Connor Rushton/ Dan Hopkins, Sam Smith, Tom Heywood, Mick Blything/ Gair Jenkin, Cory Gall, Tyler Tonkin, Josh Findlay (c), Tyler Simmonds/ Kalon Mayes

Subs Used:
Will Garner, Chaz Brown, Anthony Nicholas, Ashley Wright
