Could lifting weights
actually help you live longer?

Doing at least 90 minutes of weight training per week can greatly reduce the risk of an early death, according to new research.

What does 90mins of Strength training look like?
We suggest 3 sessions a week is ideal

Example programme
1. Bodyweight or barbell Squats 3 x 10 reps
2. ⁠Press ups or Bench press 3 x 10 reps
3. ⁠Dumbbell Rows or Pull ups 3 x 10 reps
4. ⁠Dumbbell or Barbell Deadlift 3 x 10 reps
5. ⁠Barbell overhead press 3 x 10 reps
6. ⁠Dumbbell Bicep Curls 3 x 10
7. ⁠Tricep bench Dips or Cable Tricep Pushdowns
8. Planks on a Mat 3 x 30 seconds or to failure
You can use bodyweight, bands, dumbbells or barbells to adjust these exercises

Substituting exercises are also a great way of improving especially if you don’t have access to a range of equipment ‎

Our gym owner Ian has raised the bar of achievement by winning a European Powerlifting title at the recent GPC/IPL Combined Nations European Championships in Wolverhampton.

Ian won his weight and age class Men 50-54 years, 82.5kg bodyweight with a
245kg Squat
140kg Bench Press
240kg Deadlift
625kg Total

In the overall Masters competition Ian placed and impressive 2nd in a field of 23 lifters

Ian had been preparing hard for 12 months and had comeback from 3 career threatening injuries. Before the comp he was aiming to test and see if he had fully recovered from his injuries.

He found out that not only had he recovered well from his injuries he had made enough progress to be competitive and near back to his best.

Next on the agenda will either be the World Championships in Poland in October and the British in November

We would like to say a big congratulations and well done to Sarah Atkins who has become our latest intern to graduate from our Personal Academy Internship with her Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification.

In an amazing 8 months she has achieved her goal of being a personal trainer
Within this time Sarah has worked hard in the gym and completed her coursework online whilst working a full time job. Which we can all understand is not easy.
Her sacrifices have definitely paid off

Ed has worked exceptionally hard for this. As he has had to balance fighting cancer with achieving his lifelong dream of becoming a Personal trainer. Whilst still being a father and husband to his wife and family.

Ed your efforts have been recognised and rewarded. We wish you all the best now in being a Fitness professional and are always here to support you.
