NATIONAL DISABILITY CRICKET FINALISTS🏏🏆
Semi-Final Match Report, Sunday 9th August:
On a baking hot day at Worcester Norton CC, Cornwall Super 9s won the toss and elected to bat in this National Disability Cricket semi-final, with both sides having already won their respective regional leagues.
After an early setback when Ben Mailes was bowled by Matt Rice for 0 in the third over, Giles Francis entered the crease, steadying the innings with a valuable 47 run partnership alongside Josh Raven.
A couple of quick wickets followed, with Giles Francis caught behind off Pete Brown for an excellent 33, before Mark Stevens was also bowled by Brown. Cornwall were then rescued by an outstanding 96-run partnership between Max Jacka and Dan Herriott, putting Cornwall in a strong position.
Herriott was eventually bowled by Jude Earley, just five runs short of his half-century, leaving Cornwall with 160 from their 30 overs.
Isle of Wight began their reply with Declan Whittington and Rufus Halson, but Cornwall struck early. Declan was caught by Josh off Dan Wood, before Max Jacka trapped Rufus LBW, giving Cornwall an important early advantage.
However, Pete Brown and Lewis Winter produced a superb 71-run partnership to bring Isle of Wight right back into the contest. Brown reached his half-century before retiring, having played an excellent innings and put his side in a strong position.
Cornwall then began to take regular wickets, with Jacka claiming another LBW before Brendon Prouse produced a brilliant caught-and-bowled. Prouse struck again with the very next delivery, bowling Matt Rice and swinging the momentum back towards Cornwall.
The final five overs were incredibly tense, with the match genuinely anyone’s to win. Every run and every wicket mattered as both teams fought desperately for their place in the national final. Cornwall held their nerve, producing tight, disciplined bowling and showing outstanding commitment in the field to restrict the Isle of Wight chase.
In a thrilling finish, Cornwall Super 9s edged the semi-final to secure a fantastic victory and book their place in The National Disability Cricket Final.
