Well, I’d call that a great finish to another good year and annual grading with the ever expanding PG community!
Matthew Remfrey is our newest Black Belt! - He’s an awesome guy who has been with me for years, a great coach who has done loads for the club including being entirely responsible for the expansion into Falmouth which has turned out to be a roaring success! (As Nate Diaz would say “I’m not surprised…” )
Jordan Richard and Will Murray who are both clearly incredibly good at what they do are pushed up to Brown.
Ben B, Carlo and Luke move to purple. Each having proven that with their own unique games that they are able to put onto people if they decide they want to. Most recently, Luke has been asserting his dominance in competition recently which has been great to see!
Personally I’m always really pleased to see people get to Blue. It’s a tough journey and shows a real understanding of grit, stubbornness and technical proficiency. It was my ‘favourite’ belt. The competition opportunities open up a lot more with higher level more tactical matches that are still good fun. Often in sports the higher the level, the more boring the matches can be as people understand how to game the system to get a win. Blue is the sweet spot where people are actually playing Jits, but still making just enough mistakes that matches can flip 180 at any moment. Plus there are usually a decent amount of competitors still! You’ve got to be a very special type of obsessive weirdo to stick it out to purple and beyond! Liam, Alice, Nat and Ben Lender. Time to hone your skills and find your speciality.
The club’s gone from strength to strength, and is far bigger than I’d ever planned on getting. Personally I’d be happy with a small handful of regulars, but it seems that the other coaches have bigger ideas! Onwards to 2026!
