Firstly this week massive congratulations to our u13 and u15 sides who have both reached the final of their respective League Cup competitions with the u13s taking on Cleator and the u15s playing Temple Sowerby later this month.
Well done and good luck to both teams.

After a nail biting tied match with Wigton 2nds last weekend the 1sts headed West yesterday to take on Workington 2nds and it was a successful trip as they ran out winners by 76 runs.
Choosing to bat first, Stainton set their hosts a challenging total of 225/5 from their 40 overs with Alastair Carle leading the way with a classy 103 from 77 balls including 11 fours and 5 sixes. He was well supported by the middle order with Ed Tallis (38no), James Moran (20) and Nick Hodgson (20).
In reply, the hosts were restricted to 149 all out with Martin Ruddick taking an excellent 3/23 from 10, Robbie Greenwood 3/38 from 9 and Ed Tallis 2/15 from 3.
A real all round team effort and a well earned 12points 🙏😀🏏

An extraordinary day at The Rec yesterday as our 1st XI defeated Cleator 2nd XI by 56 runs in Division 1 of the Eden Valley Cricket League in a game which saw 562 runs being scored.

Batting first, Stainton were indebted to a brilliant third wicket partnership of 222 between Alastair Carle and Nick Hodgson with Alastair smashing an incredible 172 from just 88 balls including twenty 6’s and Nick making an impressive 115 not out from 64 balls including 8 maximums.

With rain threatening, the home side declared their innings at 309/3 after 32 overs hoping to make early inroads into the Cleator top order. However, the runs continued to flow as the visitors launched an unlikely victory bid and whilst the vastly experienced Dom Chambers was at the crease there was always a chance they could reach their target.

It was not until Dom was dismissed for an excellent 126 that Stainton could finally breath easily and it was left to Robbie Greenwood 3/48 and Nick Hodgson 5/34 to bring the Cleator innings to a close on 253, 57 runs short of their target.

What a game!….and a great advert for the Eden Valley Cricket League.

Also, a special mention to Cleator for the immaculate state they left their changing room in, much appreciated 👏👏

This week it has been fabulous to see so many junior players gaining experience and confidence representing the club in u11, u13 and u15 fixtures.
For the record, there were wins for the 13s and the 15s against their counterparts from Dumfries CC whilst the 11s lost out to Lanercost.
Several players from our junior squads are now breaking through into our senior teams and this was the case as our Midweek XI triumphed over Staffield on Wednesday evening.
This weekend both our 1sts and 2nds are at home.
On Saturday the 1sts look to get back to winning ways after a 17 run defeat to Carlisle 3rds last time out as they welcome Cleator 2nds to The Rec (1pm start) and the 2nds look to continue their winning start to the season on Sunday as they entertain Lanercost Academy (2pm start)
Good luck to everyone involved…Enjoy your cricket! 🏏

After a weather enforced false start for our u13s last Friday we finally got under way last night with a visit to Temple Sowerby in the Cumbria Junior Cricket League Cup.

With a few of the team
playing their first competitive game, it was a real team performance by all involved with everyone contributing. A good all round bowling performance restricted Temple Sowerby to 101/ 4 from their allotted 20 overs was followed by undefeated innings of 30no from both Daniel Worth and Max Gibbons as Stainton reached their target in the 19th over to record a 9 wicket win in a game played in good spirits with many players from both sides getting opportunities.

A great advert for junior club cricket, well done to both sides!

After back to back wins for the 1sts and 2nds over the first two weeks of the season in the Eden Valley Cricket League , this weekend sees the 2nds take a break as the 1sts entertain Carlisle 3rds at The Rec on Sunday with a 2pm start. This is preceded on the same day by the first fixture of the season for u11s who are at home to Lanercost at 10am.

Great to see things getting into full swing with our Womens and Girls squad - Stainton Sapphires having completed their first outdoor training session this week, our u15s hosting Dumfries in the League Cup on Monday evening (11th May) and the return of All Stars and Dynamos for 5-10 year olds next Thursday (14th May).

Lots to look forward to both on and off the field 😀🏏
