My Woodland Wardrobe...

It's almost impossible to imagine a landscape, an ancient landscape where England was once covered in seemingly impenetrable forest, with no PRIVATE signs and for company have the likes of Boar, Bison and Wolves.

These once deeply magical places gradually deforested, roads slowly carving them apart, with fields & hedges replacing ancient bogs & forests.

Its of course important not to get all teary eyed about it (like I'm doing now), as without human ingenuity and survival instict, I wouldn't be typing this sort of message out on a smartphone. Nature (life) changes, its chaotic and when needed, it will reclaim itself.

There are though, still teenie we**ie pockets of woodland that give you glimpses into that ancient and in my opinion wonderful past. These are still worth exploring and in my next video I'll show you what kit I like to use, when I'm out trampling through the woods.

The beautiful autumnal sun. A walk. A read. Hello October.

Traditionally known as The Golden Month, today's heat and changing colours testament to that.

There's some cool lore around October (outside the obvious 🎃)

"A good October and a good blast,
To blow the Hog acorns across the mast."

This is a reference to "The Pannage" an ancient practice (which still occurs today). Where Boar would be hunted, after they had fattened up nicely on beechnuts.

Enjoy the full moon, ya little tinkers

A shot from a recent video but also captures how I feel about my journey so far...

At 28 days in, I have achieved 84k views, 1.2k subs and 5k hours of watch time. These numbers were unexpected and I'm obviously very happy with them, or am I?
I thought it might be interesting for future creators (or anyone), to hear what that has (really) been like.

There's been the obvious workload of churning out 12 videos in a month, but i was prepared for that.
However, things got interesting when one video gained alot of attention. This was the part I hadn't yet prepared for.
As I watched the analytics of this video take off the comments also started to flood in. I'm of course, totally aware of the implications of starting a YouTube channel, you're the face, the creator, the brand, the buck literally stops with you. Positive or negative the feedback from people all around the globe, literally lands in your lap

Overwhelmingly (around 90%) has been healthy engagement, people discussing their own styles/ideas of camping and/or, general feedback on the youtube comments, with other viewers and myself. Then there of course....THE TROLLS! I genuinely thought camping would be a fairly "Troll" free environment. Sadly its not, I have received a number of really disgusting messages either in my YT comments or directly, turns out people take tents quite seriously.

Initially it left me thinking "Why the F*** am I doing this"
Secondly and more practically, I changed my comment settings.
Thirdly, I eventually started feeling a sense of compassion for these folks and how in my own world, I can have more positive interactions with people in my day to day life. Finally I've received some utterly beautiful comments/direct messages and some have just been rather strange.

So, yeah YouTube is weird.

RELEASED !!!

My next video is out! This one takes you on a Magical Mystey Tour around the stone circles, of the Lake District.

It was an absolute blast to film this one and was awesome to visit such amazing sites, FOR FREE!

Coming back from this road trip, I had loads of content to sort through and also 2 more videos to get created. So, it felt good to get this one out there (finally).

Much love to you all x

The next part of the trip has taken me along the incredible Pendle Witch Trail. Some of the pictures are capturing the following:

- Moor Lane and the Golden Lion pub. By tradition anyone would be granted a final ale from this ancient Inn, prior to their ex*****on.

- Lancaster Castle. This is where the Infamous witches were held captive, in appalling conditions. Some perished before their ex*****on. It was unlikely that any were even strong enough to hold their cup of ale, even if they wanted too.

- Williamson Park. The reported site of the ex*****ons. The exact location is certainly up for dispute. What isn't, is that these hangings would have been very public and very gruesome.

- Artist depections of the hanging and the devil. Tales of the Devil appearing in many different forms, are rife in this area.

Its taken me a little longer to find a spot with decent WiFi, to post the latest video.

So I thought I'd pop up some of the shots I took, from visiting the stone circles.

I missed visiting two sites, one was inaccessible due to road works and another, was just hard to find. It supposedly belongs to the Faere folk though, so they were likely playing tricks on me 🧚‍♂️

I felt a bit jaded leaving Northumberland, I really connected to that place.
It was so peaceful there, that it made the Lake District feel like a metropolis, when I arrived.

The weekend crowds are finally parting and it gave me a moments solice at Castlerigg (Druid) stone circle. I felt like I'd won the jackpot.

I'm looking forward to putting the final pieces together, for my next video.

It might have something to do with stones 👀

I have never experienced so much history in one place.

Otterburn itself is brimming with tales. Visiting Percy's Cross was awe inspiring, to be standing at a sight where 8,000 English men fought a smaller in number, but defiant and fearless Scottish force.

On to Elsdon, a 10 minute drive...
The scene of Winter Gibbet, a hanging post, where a gruesome tale lies and then onto the mysterious Elsdon church. Enclosed on its pillars are the marks of swords, sharpened by the very soldiers that fought here.

With all that said, I am barely scratching the surface of all there is to tell in this magical area!

More will be told in my next episode...

I'm catching up with Instagram posts, after creating my first in the series of gear reviews.

Its fair to say the learning curve has been steep and extensive. Creating content is not easy and I seriously repsect anyone, that is going out there and doing it (especially on their own). There's always been that slight judgement when I see an imperfection, or a mistake that someone has made on their video, now I get it ! Understanding how long and the effort it takes to make just a 5 minute video!!!

My first videos are riddled with errors and with things i wish I had done. When you're starting though, you just gotta close your eyes and push that upload button. I think thats kinda cool to see too, uploading the imperfections and seeing how you make improvements over time. I guess YouTube in its own little way, is quite a reflective life lesson as well.
