Legs this morning 🥵
Had to really find something extra today to make these sets happen, every warm up felt like “yeah you better wake the f**k up or it’s not happening” that’s what I
absolutely love about training in a deficit, every single week gets tougher to uphold performance, so you just keep leaning further and further into that challenge!
Above are my first & second Hack Squat sets from today, 4th exercise deep.
Both sets present a pretty big psychological challenge as I’m already quite far into the session, but that’s not a problem, I enjoy it and have plenty of reasons to place a big compound slightly later into a leg day.
However, set one is very different to set two.
Set one is heavy, you misgroove one rep and it’s game over, so the pressure is super high from the get go, hence why I really have to amp myself up for it, without SOME hype the weight simply will not move.. these are the moments where I have to make the weight feel like nothing on the unrack, to give me the confidence to attack it. This set was 2.5kgs up and matched reps on my last personal best.
I had to ask to help me today, she is an absolute beast and I knew she wouldn’t let me give up too early. So grateful to have people like her in the Gym who not are not only ready to help, but also give you advice and feedback so I can keep on improving. Adjustments were made, and you can see the improvements in depth and knee flexion on the second set.
Set two was pure pain, the first reps are pretty comfortable, but once you get to rep 4 and beyond, the main challenge is can you endure the discomfort.. and that’s so so different to set one.
In my opinion, you need to get extremely good at handling BOTH of these environments, especially with leg training. Having these skills in your tool box means you can extract what you need from every set... the MAIN focus is always progressive overload, but your ability to overload within different sets, requires different skills.
