Sorry, its a long post.
Well. Had a bit of a rocky start to this year's airsoft last Sunday (29th March). Went to a different site to normal. Decided to give Warzone Airsoft & Paintball a go as it looks pretty epic.
First off I have to say, loved the site. Great facilities, massive covered safe zone with plenty of tables and seats to go around. Onsite shop and catering facilities for your extras and food. Game zones were awesome too.
So how was it a rocky start you ask??
Well, after loading the car and a 1 hour drive down the m6, I realised I'd left my vest at home. Not a problem in itself. But unfortunately I'd put all my m4 mags and pistol mags in my vest. Bu**er.
Ok. Not a problem, I've taken my m60. Didn't really want to carry that beast all day, but hey ho, I've done it before. So I head out to chrono with "The Pig". Try a few shots first on the range by chrono. It was missing shots, sounded like it was struggling, then packed up altogether. Oh dear. This could be the shortest days airsoft ever. Walks back into safe zone looking very disappointed. Jokes to the guys on the table next to me about shortest days airsofting, and they asked what mags I needed. They very kindly gathered together half a dozen spare m4 mags and loaned them to me for the day. Game on.
Managed to pick up some webbing out the shop to carry mags, pyro, spare ammo and speedloader and I was finally good to go. Many thanks to Gareth Alldrett and Rio Alldrett for the loan of the mags and getting me back in the game, and also, as regulars there, for giving me the lowdown on the site and games. Really appreciated it guys.
So the morning games went well. Played various parts of the site. Got some good kills, and got shot plenty more. Had a bit of rain mid morning but nothing to worry about (or so I thought).
After lunch, heading out to first game I'd left my cap in safe zone, so popped back to get it. Heading back out, I realised I didn't know which way everyone had gone, though I knew the area we were supposed to be heading towards as we'd been there in the morning. So I headed out via a route I knew would get me there, even if not the "preferred" route. Half way there, there was a but of a slope, which in the morning had been fine. Now, after the rain it was slippy and treacherous. Just take it easy, I convinced myself. Nope. Slip, slip, BOOM. Down I went, hard. Twisted knee and pulled achilles. Managed to get to the game zone, to be called over by another player, holding something out to me. Only the broken charging handle from the m16/203. Looked down to see the return spring dangling, stretched beyond repair out beneath the carry handle. Gun still worked, but annoying.
Hobbled my way through the game, but knee was seriously sore, so sadly, after getting out, (it was a 2 life game scenario) I limped my way, slowly, back to the safe zone and made the sad, but sensible decision to call it a day. Gave to mags back to my new friends, though sadly I'd lost one, something I've never done before, packed up and headed home.
Unloading back home I realised I'd left my toolbox there. Quick phone call to site and all sorted. The guys who had loaned me the mags had my toolbox, and I picked it back up from them yesterday.
So all in all, not my best days airsoft, but at least it was all down to me. The site was great, and I'll definitely be going there again in the not to distant future. And this time I'll be sure to have all my own kit with me.
I've sorted the m60, somehow the rear of the tappet plate had got caught on the peg in the sector gear, and jammed into the piston teeth. Having dealt with that, while testing it, the trigger micro switch broke. Got a pack of 6 replacements from Amazon on next day delivery. She's purring now. The m16/203, I've been given a replacement charging handle and spring from my good mate Adam Endean so that's done and dusted too. Phew.
Sadly the knee isn't as easy to fix. Still a bit tender and sore, but getting there.

Airsoft, October 5th at Frontier Airsoft . Ran the newly upgraded ( thanks Adam Endean ) Specna Arms m16/203 for the first game, then my new toy, the Cyma m14 for the rest of the day. Both ran brilliantly, with excellent range and accuracy. Planning on converting the m14 to a dmr at some point. Next game November 16th for my birthday. Hopefully with a few of the old Cold Steelers from way back when.

13 years ago. A lot has changed since then. But do still love a South African Assault Vest for carrying my gear. Speaking of which I'll be rocking one this weekend at Frontier Airsoft .
Also taking out my newest addition to the arsenal, a Cyma M14, in keeping with my (mostly) Nam theme for my primary weapons. Long term I plan on making it into a dmr, but for now it's just stock, full auto happiness.

Paying for it today, but what a cracking day of Nam themed airsoft at Gunman Airsoft - Eversley Alpha yesterday for Dustoff 11. As per previous post I ended up hu***ng the m60 machine gun ALL DAY as my squad had no heavy weapon otherwise. 8.5kg fully loaded. And carrying all other kit required for the day. And the "Little Pig" ran sweetly all day. Up and down steep hills. Through dense bushes. Was a real work out. Knackered by 1pm, but pushed through it for another 4 hours. By days end, mission objectives were achieved by the US and ANZAC forces, defeating the VC and PAVN forces by finding and destroying the defences of Fort Guillame.
Massive thanks to Denn Demery-Kane and his crew for another fantastic Nam event, to Adam Endean for joining me on this very long day, and shooting me with my own gun. And the 173rd vietnam airsoft group for being such a cracking bunch of teammates. Hopefully won't be 4 years before I see you all again.
My pics below, along with some "borrowed" with permission from fellow 173rder Catalin Vasiu . Thanks Catalin.

After 4 ½ years during which time I've played only 5 or 6 games, hopefully this year will see a more regular return to the joys of plastic slinging. Had my first game of the year at Frontier Airsoft a couple of Sundays ago. Weather was great. Plenty of players. Good sportsmanship and some excellent fire fights. As always Frontier proved why I return to it year after year as my "home" site with another great storyline, excellent facilities and amazing staff.
Ran the TM AK47 NGRS most the morning, along with a game running the Cybergun Thompson. The afternoon I went with my little baby the JG Thundermaul. That always gets some funny looks. But its incredibly effective.
12 April I'm off down to Gunman Airsoft - Eversley Alpha for Dustoff Nam event. That'll be a long day, but worth it. My first Nam since 2020.
Till then, some pics from Frontier. Copyright belongs to Frontier Airsoft.

So with ongoing issues at home, primarily a full house refurbishment, it's been another year of basically no airsoft for me. But thankfully I managed to squeeze in a game before full on, all hands on deck prior to house move in October.
Sunday 8th September I took a trip to my usual haunt of Frontier Airsoft near Penkridge and Stafford.
Weapons of choice for the day were the JG Thundermaul for the morning, and the Specna Arms M16/203 for the afternoon. Sidearm of choice for the day was the Umarex H8r 10 shot co2 revolver. Didn't get to use the pistol, but both rifles performed excellently, getting some great shots from very long range.
It was also the first time with my new glasses, WileyX Boss, with prescription lenses. What a game changer. Last time I went, November last year, I found looking at or into bushes at distance, everything was quite blurry. But with new prescription lenses, everything was crystal clear, like going from SD to UHD. Always handy to be able to see what you're shooting at.
I played blue team who were mercenaries trying to rescue a hostage from a kidnapper gang. It was a cracking day, bit rainy at first, but it eased off in the afternoon.
There were some great firefights and sportsmanship was, as usual, excellent as I've come to expect at Frontier, and with only about 36 players, plenty of room for flanking and sneakyness. Blues won the day and I'm looking forward to hopefully playing more next year, once things settle down a bit.

It's been quiet on the airsoft front again this year, due to more family bereavement and the associated jobs and time this creates, and of course, the family needs and support that will always take prority over a hobby.
But this year I turn 50. So I'm squeezing my only game this year in at my usual go to site, Frontier Airsoft on Sunday 19th November (booking is open already, book on and come say happy birthday to me) Got at least a couple of mates joining me, hopefully more, and I'll possibly be introducing a work colleague or two, if any of them take me up on the offer. Will they?? Or will they be all talk and no trousers. We shall see.
But I'll be there. And I'll be having fun. As much fun as a half centurion can have at least. (Which will be plenty). I just feel sorry for my legs for the following week.

Wishing John "Hitman" Ward, a very happy birthday. One of the Cold Steel Airsoft Team founding fathers, John was a major driving force for our little team in the early days. He was Armourer (he had the most guns), Tech (he loves to tinker with anything) and most importantly, a solid, dependable battle brother. I curse the day he hung up his plastic slinging toys.

Still much loved, and greatly missed on the battlefields.

Have an awesome day Hitman

Wolf.
