Sunday Silliness

It was ominously dark and wet as, at least, the Northern contingent of the Walking Dead got up at an ungodly hour and headed onto the motorways that (eventually) led to Staffordshire...and by ominous we mean it was pitch fkn black, freezing fkn cold and fkn pi***ng down...not our favourite combinations of weather...but hey, at least it wasn't snowing!

Happily though as the morning moved from 'ungodly' to just 'early' the rain stopped, the skies started to clear and by the time the light had arrived (along with Cosmin and Tony) we were presented with a beautiful, blue sky.

Things were looking up!

What dragged us out of bed at this time on a Sunday, especially in late November you may ask? Well obviously it was the chance to play the CPPS 7-man competition, mixed teams for mixed divisions all on the same bill, including a bunch of dossers from Div 5 who try not to take things seriously.

Why were we there? Because Cosmin made us...seriously...he did not shut up about the 7 man all through the last round until Mike went and signed us up.

Walking Dead Player of the Season 2025

So, last season we launched our Player Of The Season award as a little reward for the member of the ‘Dead who we felt had been consistently brilliant all season long.

CPPS Round 5 12/10/2025 - A Sunday Sh*tshow

Dark, where did bloody dark come from?

Well, dark is was when the alarms went off and the ‘Dead rose from their slumbers and dragged themselves from all corners of the UK to the home of paintball, CPPS.

Round 5 was incoming, the final round of the season and a final chance for the gang to get back together, play a few games, take the p**s, and have a good time playing paintball for potentially the last time this year (more on that later).

There were ten of us in the pits for this round, nearly enough for two teams if only our pit crew was old enough to play (you just wait until he is!) With this round being the last chance for us all to get together we had the full 2025 crew on deck, which was nice. Banter was flowing right from the off and the two skiving gits from the last round were dutifully humiliated for their absence!

(We missed you really guys)

We went into the round with a sense of optimism, we felt good, we had a good squad and three of the team had not only seen the field, but trained on it…imagine our surprise to find that land we’ve identified and practiced were no longer visible on the layout.

How does that happen by the way? Frustrating!...

We Did A Training Thing!

1/10 - wet and muggy, would not recommend!!!!

Joking aside it was a fun day, wish there was more of us though. Big thanks to the Kezbands boys for giving someone to at least try to shoot at when it wasn't ☔️⚡️☔️. Can't think of a better place to be when there's lightning around than under a pylon :)

Consensus was we didn't really like the layout, and boy did we miss using Evil, (or rather missed not missing when using Evil) but roll on Round 5, what a way to go out for the season!

CPPS Round 4 16/08/2025 – Who Makes Us Play In 'Flaming' August??

That was a bit of a warm one.

It was an odd feeling that the 'Dead felt as we headed across the country to CPPS, and that wasn't just the creaking in Andy's back after spending the night in a 'photo-me' booth at Northampton station (Don't ask).

Anyway, the feeling was caused by one, nagging, question. Paintball...in August...have we ever?

OK, so our memories aren't that great but we couldn't think of a summer season of paintball like this, and after the recent mini-heatwave hitting the low 30's in some parts of the UK the thought of pulling on the padding and running about in the sun being shot at wasn't exactly excitement filled.

Still the skies weren't exactly blue as we started our journeys so perhaps it wouldn't be that bad.

It was looking like a good turnout for the team for the day, not bad for a squad that had to come back from the void not that long ago. Sadly we were to be without both Cosmin and Keiran this round, but the return of the aforementioned (bet you never thought you'd read that word in a paintball blog!) Andy and with Harry also rejoining the team after skiving the last round to some sort of, frankly unimportant, family things (weddings and the like...tch!) we at least had someone that could play snake willingly and with experience based on some sort of VR game, eager to get in there and do damage.

Round 4 was indeed looking like being a good layout, plans had been made, but none of them really make it past the first look at the field as it is. The bag side boys weren't exactly enamoured with the big complex in the middle making it easy to lose someone in, but were keen on the fact that it wasn't as wide and open as some of the layouts we'd been playing recently. Still, the snake side was looking powerful again which made the snake players happy, and hell it doesn't take much to please those guys...simple as they are!

Come on, running and diving headlong into a snake and enjoying it? You've got to have something wrong with you, right?

CPPS Round 3 05/07/2025 –Where Did the F&^%*ng Sun Go?

Angry-looking clouds loomed over the North as some of the Walking Dead dragged themselves into the gloom at a frankly unearthly hour. It could only mean one thing—paintball time again. And indeed it was: CPPS Round 3, or as most called it, the NXL round.

Under grey skies, as dark as Tony’s usual mood, the Walking Dead arrived at a rapidly filling car park at CPPS, geared up for the day’s shenanigans. Threats of torrential rain or blistering sunshine faded, and we ended up with (mostly) decent playing weather—the “mostly” being thanks to the oppressive mugginess that lingered over the site, sucking the breath from your lungs.

Someone really needed to switch those big fans on and get us a breeze!

CPPS Round 2 17/05/2025 – Normal Service Is Resumed

What was it we said in our last CPPS Round review?

Oh yeah, “Don’t get excited gang, it won’t last.”

What a premonition that was!

Saturday, silly o’clock in the morning and a seemingly endless motorway journey, must be another day of fun and frolics at CPPS. After a couple of weeks of nice weather there was a hint of trepidation as to how much the pits would smell after a few hours of paintballers “running” around in the baking heat…happily there was a fair bit of cloud covering the normally blue skies as we drove to Staffordshire, and that remained for most of the day, meaning we didn’t have to die of heat exhaustion…or the smell :)

CPPS Round 1 09/03/2025 - WHAT THE F$£k DID WE JUST DO!!!

Here. We. Go!!!

Brand new year, brand new season and, for once, the Walking Dead didn’t end up with a brand new team; no, really! Look, we even scraped up enough players to make it to Rd1 this time.

Sunday the 9th of March brought paintball back to Div 5 and with it came the unfit, untrained, layabouts that call themselves the Walking Dead. Basking in what was, and became, a really nice day.

Spirits were high as the CPPS crew had obviously paid for the sun to come out of the clouds, and for the first time in what feels like forever we had a relatively stable team able to turn up and play. Captain Mike was there, as usual forgetting he had a role to keep the mob organised, James, Keiran, Harry, Cosmin, Tony and shiny new pickup Jarrod all managing to find their way to both CPPS, and our pit.

After greetings, welcomes, and the usual good natured p**s taking, we wombled out onto the astro to finally take a look at the NXL Tampa layout we’d only seen on screen…and the general consensus was that, as usual, it was utter sh*te.
