Today was the annual Penarth Shield which is a fun social tournament between Rectory and Windsor. All matches were competitive and played in good spirit.
Windsor came away with the win today by the narrowest of margins.
Many thanks to Penarth, they were the perfect hosts, good tennis, good food and excellent company. We look forward to welcoming you back to Windsor next year.

The ladies of the club know how to celebrate in style at a post summer season get together last night. Delicious homemade foods, lots of catching up across all teams and social players. An evening to remember. Bring on the winter season! ☃️

What a day for club championship finals it was. Superb tennis, great atmosphere, the sun was shining, music playing, food excellent, drinks flowing. It’s a wrap. The club champions have been crowned yesterday. (Ladies singles final postponed). Thank you to all who played, came to support, organised, ran the bar, provided music and umpired. A wonderful club event and worthy champions. 🏆

Sunday Padel Courses

Our Monday and Friday padel courses have now kicked off, and a very warm welcome to all our new groups!

But there’s still time to get involved…

Our Sunday Beginner and Improver courses with Cathy don’t start for another two weeks, on Sunday 20th September.

Whether you’re looking to try padel for the very first time, or you’ve already dipped your toes in and want to take your game to the next level, we’ve got a course for you:

🎾 Beginner Padel - Sunday 5pm
🎾 Improver Padel - Sunday 6pm

There are only 6 spaces per course, with just a handful of places remaining in each session.

We’ve got more breaking news from the Welsh Championships: another Welsh Champion in the ranks! 🎾

A huge congratulations to Charlie Newman, who has achieved an incredible quadruple, winning both singles and doubles in the 14U and 16U categories 🏆🏆🏆🏆

To cap a memorable week he’s also received confirmation of his call-up to represent Team Wales at the upcoming Four Nations event! 🏴

A huge well done to Charlie and his lead coach Tom Bellingham.

🏆 WELSH NATIONAL CHAMPION!

A huge congratulations from everyone at the club to Ophelia Hunkin, who today became the Welsh 11 & Under Girls’ Champion.

Ophelia produced some fantastic tennis at the Championships being held all week at Bridgend, winning her way through every round in straight sets to take the title.

A massive congratulations to Ophelia and her lead coach Rob Gaunt.

Ophelia is one of many of our junior club members competing at the Championships this week, and we’re incredibly proud of every single one of them. We’ll share a full roundup of everyone’s achievements once the tournament comes to an end on the weekend.

🏆 JNR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026

We’re super excited to be taking entries for this year’s Junior Club Championships, taking place over the weekend of 12th–13th September.

We’ve got events for all ages, with plenty of tennis across the weekend, including:

🎾 Singles
👫 Doubles
🏆 Mixed Doubles
🎉 Plus our annual Awards Night on Sunday evening!

The Junior Championships are for members only, and the sign-up form has now been sent to all parents via email and WhatsApp.

🏆 TROPHY HOLDERS! If you were lucky enough to win one of our legacy trophies last year, please don’t forget to get it engraved, give it a good polish and return it to the club by the end of the summer holidays. We’ve got dozens of trophies, shields and medals to sort through ready for this year’s tournament, so getting them back on time is a huge help!

Our Tennis Xpress course is designed especially for adult beginners and those we affectionately call “rusty rackets” – players who haven’t picked up a racket for years.

📅 Tuesdays at 6pm
🎾 6-week course starting at the beginning of September
🙌 Non-members very welcome
🎾 All equipment provided

Using low-compression balls and smaller spaces, we’ll help you learn to serve, rally and score in a fun, interactive and rally-based environment.

🚫 No standing in queues
🚫 No rock-hard tennis balls flying past you
🚫 No previous experience needed!

The course has also been carefully scheduled just before our weekly Adult Social Mix-In, so we’re hoping it might be the start of the journey for a few future club members too! 👀🎾

After the six weeks we’ll take a break for winter, with the aim of making Tennis Xpress a regular session again in the spring.

🔥 Places are limited and we’ve already had lots of bookings, so don’t leave it too late!
