ANOTHER DRAW SAME AS BEFORE

Saturday 6th June

PIONEERS vs. Washington Utd Greens

Another great performance from the PIONEERS this week! In testing conditions, the boys continued to work hard for each other and to show a never-say-die attitude.

Jax started in midfield and set the tone early by using his body to constantly harry and disrupt the opposition's rhythm. Alongside him, Barny showed good footwork and clever movement off the ball to create space, particularly during kick-ins.

Behind them, Matthew and Joshua R started in their usual spots in defence. Matthew showed fantastic defensive instinct, running box-to-box from his starting position and executing some well-timed slide tackles to break up dangerous attacks, although he was on the receiving end of a few himself, which didn't deter him. Joshua R continued his role as last man and refused to stop running as he put pressure on the opposition forwards. Similarly, Theo came off the bench to build on the team's defensive solidarity, growing in confidence with every minute he gets under his belt. As the opposition grew into the match the Pioneers pushed forward in search of goals, Theo’s interceptions were vital in ensuring that they weren’t punished by a counter attack.

Between the sticks, Jake H put in another pleasingly assured performance. Despite the tricky conditions, he made some fine saves and was unlucky to be beaten, coming tantalizingly close to stopping both goals. Special mention goes to his excellent catch in the first half, in which he came off his line to confidently pluck the ball out of the air - for a moment I thought I was watching Match of the Day!

Going forward, the team looked sharp and inventive, consistently threatening the opposition defence. Up front, Joshua A and Jake G linked up well, working in tandem to make powerful, driving runs that carved out a number of dangerous chances. The pressure paid off in spectacular fashion when Joshua A unleashed a rip-roaring finish to score a well-deserved equalizer.

On the flanks, Henry and Riley brought welcome intensity to the wings when they were introduced from the bench. Henry looked threatening out wide, whipping in some dangerous, teasing crosses that would have been nudged into the net on another day. Riley brought explosive pace to the match, using great off the ball movement to get on the end of a fantastic assist from Joe to put the Pioneers in the lead. Joe worked tirelessly all game and played a vital role in the creation of both of our goals.

This was another team performance to be proud of. The development of, and change in the boys is fantastic to see. They were minutes from victory and very unlucky to concede the equaliser. Every one of the boys can hold their heads high and look forward to next week!

POTM:
Theo Dryden 🏆

Theo has a cool calm approach to the game, he never panics and looks strong in his 1 on 1's. His confidence on the ball is starting to shine through, with some great decision making to direct attackers wide of goal, making it difficult for them to get a clear opportunity. Followed up with some great passing down the line to get the wingers in play. A great performance Theo, Well Done!

always a tough one to lose on the final game of the season but the team shouldn’t be too disappointed. We’ve had a hugely successful season and developed fantastically with more positive results than negatives and certainly more positive performances than poor performances.

Today’s game was versus a very good footballing team who knew how to attack and take advantage of the space during the attack.

Our forward attacking play was impressive especially the kids ability to switch on to the attack when the play had transitioned. Mila was awesome on the right midfield winning every battle in Front of her. I was really impressed with her ability to beat her players utilising multiple techniques (the opposition didn’t know what she was going to do next). It’s seriously difficult playing against players that do this and it showed.

At 1-1 it was close but then the midfield and attack not tracking back and helping in the transition hurt us to many times before we got control of it.

Albeit we conceded 5 goals our 2 defenders done a superb job often having to work as a 2 to reduce the threat of what a times was a 4v2 attack. This is something we need to work on when we are playing the top teams. I explained at half time that defence is not a position it’s whether we are in possession of the ball or not. If we don’t have the ball the whole team are defenders, 2nd half this improved and we saw a lot less 4v2 occasions with the wingers switching on and putting the effort in to get back.

Being already a number of goals down though and it being a hot day this did then impact our wingers appetite to get forward after defending well.

This will come in time but also comes with having the ability to mentally release a mistake and having the desire to win it back.

Got to call out Jude’s 5 saves in one attacking play that was sheer desire and determination to keep the ball out of our net. Shame it went in, in the end.

The one thing we see every week from this team is great team play and fantastic clever passing. Loved that today, the goal was the best type of goal you can score. Playing from the back into the midfield, some lovely first passes and a slot into the goal. So good to see at this age group.

We changed players positions today and it showed me a lot of positives especially Mila as mentioned but also Sammy. Upfront Sammy was a menace and put in a really good performance.

It’s only going to get tougher next season but this team is definitely up for it.

Well done to the whole Pathbreakers team today.

I think Mila deserved coaches player and Parents player this week she totally stood out.

HONOURS EVEN IN A HOTLY CONTESTED DRAW 🌞

Saturday 30th May

PIONEERS v Washington Jnrs.

An edgy, end-to-end start set the tone for a gripping encounter. As the first half progressed, the PIONEERS steadily increased the pressure on their opponents, pinning them back but were unable to turn that sustained pressure into clear-cut chances. Both teams were equal until conceding a deflected opening goal from the opposition. However, the boys did not let their heads drop and battled throughout to find an equaliser.

Joshua R started in his usual role at centre-back and made a number of brilliant, last-ditch blocks - along with teammate Joe - to keep the scoreline at 1-0. He was supported by his defensive partner, Matthew, who simply refused to give up, chasing the opposition down repeatedly with relentless energy. It was great to see how the two offered contrasting styles when playing out from the back; Joshua R provided calm and considered passing, while Matthew unleashed dangerous long balls that effectively exploited the wings. Later in the half, Theo was introduced to the backline and slotted in seamlessly, replacing Joshua R whilst maintaining the team's defensive solidity.

In the centre of the park, Barny worked tirelessly throughout, showing great control to trap the ball and move the team up the pitch time and time again. Alongside him, Joe delivered a classic box-to-box performance in the middle. He worked hard throughout to link up play, driving the team forward into the opposition box while working equally hard to track back and assist the defence. As energy levels began to drop, Jax was introduced to the midfield, immediately injecting much-needed energy, tenacity, and physicality into the engine room.

Jake G started the game as left wing and used good movement to exploit the channels, which resulted in a number of dangerous, long-range efforts. On the opposite flank, Riley initially showed great commitment to his defensive responsibilities before moving further up the pitch in the second half. He notably used his blistering pace to great effect, carving out several dangerous opportunities.

Joshua A started up top before moving across the front three and looked sharp and dangerous throughout, creating a number of early opportunities as the boys grew into the game. He was unlucky not to capitalise on that early pressure. Henry was then introduced from the bench to play as the central striker, showing relentless running to chase down chances in the increasing heat.

The game remained end to end, with both sides creating chances. However, it was the opposition who managed to grab a second with a well taken team goal. Again, the boys showed tremendous character, refusing to let their heads drop and continuing to work hard despite being behind. Their reward finally came when Henry received the ball in the box with his back to goal; showing great composure, he quickly sorted his feet out before turning sharply to fire home our first goal of the game. Joshua A then showed impressively quick thinking to drive the ball into the box from a quick kick in, then smash in the equaliser.

Jake H was a steady presence in goal throughout the match, staying fully focused and displaying excellent decision-making. He consistently committed himself at just the right moments to close down several dangerous chances and keep us in the game.

Ultimately, in an end to end contest, the draw was undoubtedly the fairest result. However, the Pioneers could have snatched it at the end, with several dangerous chances falling to Riley, Henry, and Joshua A. It was great to see the desire in the boys to work hard as a team for a positive result, and long may it continue!

POTM:
Barny 🏆
Really impressed with Barny's drive and determination over the last few games.
It's only right that he receives acknowledgement for his efforts and performance today. He's finding his voice on the pitch, encouraging and supporting his team mates, along with some confident passing play to breakthrough opposition lines.
Energy is high and positivity is building week after week.
Keep it up Barny!

E-quality Football Club would like to wish Henry Arthur a very Happy belated Birthday
Henry has added great positioning and strength to his game this last few months and is reaping the rewards. He's a real team player, always willing to pick up any position on matchday, but has excelled in attacking positions of late.
Keep it up Henry!
Hope you had a great day!

An impressive display from the Pathbreakers against a very tough Coxhoe team leading to a competitively fought draw.

A game that was full of chances and had it not been for a superb display from the opposition goalkeeper we could have won the match comfortably.

The opposition tested our teams ability to compete in the strength department and they stepped up and fought every battle. This was the toughest I’ve seen both Joshua and Sophia in a match both really getting stuck in.

The passing on display was consistently good and the overlaps worked on in training happened time after time.

The link up play between Jack and Lily for our first goal was brilliant.

Mila was a stone wall in defence winning every 50/50.

Matty and Joshua when in the centre mid positions gave us so many attacking opportunities and when out of possession worked unbelievably hard to get back and support the defence.

Jack, Lily and Stevie caused the opposition a lot of problems down the wings and showed how versatile they are not only taking on the opposition but linking up well with some great one twos.

Jenson gave everything and made some impressive runs from defence getting us into some dangerous attacking positions.

Although it was a quiet match for Jude his alertness and positioning in and out of possession was very good.

Really proud of how the team conducted themselves today and I’d like to call out Matty for his positive attitude over the last couple of games.

Well done team.
