Peebles CCC Memorial Game - Players welcome (and needed!)

This coming Sunday (2pm start) we're hosting our annual memorial game in memory of those who have played for the club, or supported the club, over the years.

This is a friendly fixture with teams decided on the day, and we're looking for players new and old to come down and celebrate the end of the season with us, and think about friends past and present.

Everyone welcome - Get in touch if you fancy a game! Whether you've played before or not, we'll welcome you with open arms, a cup of tea, and a bit of cake.

***Friendly match tomorrow - 3x PLAYERS NEEDED!!!***

Tomorrow weve got a friendly match against Julian's Church 11 team - We're currently only at 8 players, so could do with a few more to come down and play for the Peebles 11!

Friendly match where everyone gets the opportunity to bat and ball, so all abilities welcome!

2pm start at Whitestone Park - Get in touch or come down and meet the lads tomorrow afternoon

Last Saturday (August 22), Peebles hosted Stewart’s Melville IV at Whitestone Park in the final ESCA Division 7 match of the season.

Skipper Pete Caddick continued a season’s trend of winning the toss and County went out to bat with Kevin Bunten (116) and Chris Richardson (42).

Both have had excellent seasons and Bunten was again the leading league run scorer with more than 700.
Jamie Carr (72) then continued the quick scoring with County at 138-1 taking drinks.

Finlay Burns (8) continued his excellent form and Mehul Prajapati (31*) had another quick fire innings supported by Adam Hayward (4*).

So County went to tea at 284-4 after 40 overs and their largest total of the season.

Both teams enjoyed a delightful tea and a 60th birthday singsong! Caddick and Burns (N) made cap presentations before Finlay Burns (0-34) and Prajapati (4-24) steadily opened the bowling.

Two very sharp catches from wicketkeeper Carr came before Niall Burns (3-39) and Hayward (1-20) took over.

Niall Burns finished joint ESCA league wicket taker with close to 30 wickets, improving like a fine wine and talking the team through every one.

Gary Walsh (1-17) and Jay Dhami (0-19) completed the bowling stats. Excellent outfield catches by Hayward, Adam Hayes and Walsh saw SM finish on 173-9 after 40 overs and a win for County by 111 runs.

Player of the match went to Bunten and the champagne moment was awarded to Carr with a six towards the rugby pitch.

Peebles are sponsored by Red Heather engineering and consultancy. Thanks went to Stewart’s Melville for again playing in a sporting fashion which Peebles have enjoyed throughout the season.

Our X is set for tonight's away trip to Selkirk, with the first ball at 6:00pm.

Thankfully the forecast in Selkirk at 6pm has changed from "Thundery showers" to "Heavy rain"

Weekend result

Unfortunately a loss to Edinburgh South 4s on Saturday. We lost the toss and were asked to bowl, in what was a wet outfield with some light drizzle. We took some good wickets, with notable performance from the younger and better Burns, with Finlay securing a hat-trick to secure the final 3 wickets.

Despite a strong start with the bat, wickets tumbled and only Mehul managed to break 30+ runs with some impressive shots back over the bowler's head.

We enjoyed a very lovely tea inbetween innings with Edinburgh South bringing some of their own treats to contribute to what was a very full table of cakes and sandwiches.

Peebles CCC are back at Whitestone Park today as we take on Edinburgh South 4s.

A warm Peebles welcome to J. Carr, who makes his club debut today. A huge thank you as well to J. Dhami for answering the call at the last minute to help us get a full XI out.

Rainy morning in Peebles, but forecast says its to dry up, ready for the first ball at 1pm.
