Last Saturday Peebles County welcomed Murrayfield DAFS IV down to Whitestone Park. Skipper Pete Caddick won the toss and County elected to bat. With the threat of rain later both sides agreed to a 30 over a side match in ESCA division 7. Kevin Bunten (57) continued his excellent start to the season with an opening partnership of 55 with Caddick (9). Chris Richardson (1) and Jay Singh (2) perished quickly before Ian Revell (3) was his stubborn self. Niall Burns (15*) missed a few whilst collecting slow singles and Mehul Prajapati (18) struck some fine blows. Aarad Ajmal (9) collected boundaries and it was good to see Chris Bird (4*) showing his good eye. So Peebles finished on 137-7 off the allotted 30 overs as the hosts put on a delicious tea. Thank you to everyone especially today’s bakers. A quick huddle from the skipper to encourage accurate bowling and tidy fielding as Prajapati (0-28) and Singh (0-28) opened the bowling. Then the Burns (1-22) and Ajmal (4-23) partnership kicked in as Ajmal especially picked up important wickets and Burnsy frequently went past the edge. DAFS slumped to 90-5 with 47 runs required off the final 10 overs with some good catches in the deep from Prajapati (2) and Caddick. Great to see Neil Cummings keeping wicket again with a very tidy performance including a catch and a stumping. DAFS finished on 139-6 winning by 4 wickets in a close finish. In the field a good runaround for Chris Dixon and Chris Bird and the team with plenty of good chasing, throwing and encouragement. Player of the match to Bunten and champagne moment to Prajapati for his steepling catch. County have a range of teams and training (senior, junior, ladies) during the week with full details on social media. Thank you to DAFS for the journey over the hills and a sporting game finished just in time. Peebles County are delighted to be sponsored by Red Heather this season.

A loss to Gala last night unfortunately in the Borders T20 Cup match, but a lovely evening for it and game played in great spirits.

Junior Burns and Mehul on fire, as per usual, but PCCC were undone by a good Gala score in the first innings and a tight bowling display

Back to it in the league against Murrayfield DAFs at the weekend

***PEEBLES WIN***

On the warmest afternoon of the season, Peebles County travelled to Inch Park to face table-topping Edinburgh South IV. Skipper Pete Caddick won the toss and elected to bat first.

Kevin Bunten (57) and Caddick (105) opened aggressively with a 79-run partnership, Bunten striking ten fours and two sixes. County then suffered a rapid collapse as Kris Easter, Finlay Burns, and debutant Matt Aitken all fell for ducks. Adam Hayward (10) provided stability, adding 41 with Caddick before edging behind. Niall Burns, Chris Dixon, and Larry Dritsas also fell for ducks, leaving County reeling at 155-9.

Julian Pace (6*) joined Caddick for a crucial final-wicket stand. The pair added 50 runs through sharp running on a fast, dry outfield, pushing the total to 205 off 39.4 overs. Caddick fell to the final ball of the innings, having cleared the rope four times alongside 14 boundaries.

Defending 205, opening bowlers Finlay Burns (1-35) and Hayward (1-21) restricted South to 25 runs from the opening 10 overs. Burns consistently beat the bat, while Hayward maintained exceptional accuracy.

Niall Burns (2-34) and Aarad Ajmal (1-39) sustained the pressure, leaving South at 71 at the halfway drinks break. Edinburgh South responded, reducing the requirement to 53 runs off the final 5 overs with five wickets in hand. Tight death bowling from Caddick (2-29) and Bunten (1-37), combined with two run outs, restricted South to 198 to secure a narrow victory for Peebles

*Game Day* - We're Away at Edinburgh South this weekend - Good luck to the lads playing and go well!

Looking like a scorcher (for Scotland anyway...)

Many thanks to our fantastic main Club sponsor for the 2026 season 'Red Heather' and to all of our incredible player sponsors - We couldn't do it without you!

Thanks for the game on Friday evening, St Boswells!

Thanks for the game on Friday evening, St Boswells!

The weather was sunny but chilly at The Green last night as we played a 9-strong Peebles County Cricket Club in our second T20 of the season. The visitors posted a total of 79 for the loss of 8 wickets, coming up against some spirited performances by the young Bossie bowling line-up. Blair Ruthven skittled the tail-enders and achieved the best bowling figures of 2/2, with Robin Bryson claiming 2/16 off his 4 overs.

The Bossie batting attack unfortunately failed to get off the ground at the outset, and some excellent bowling by Peebles’ openers, in particular young Finn Burns, left the home team four wickets down with only a single run on the board after only 5 overs. However, the team rallied and a gritty knock by John Henderson formed the anchor of the Bossie innings, leaving him on 24* at the close of play with Matthew Valentine by his side on 11*, with an innings total of 64/9. So a win for Peebles by 15 runs; well played Peebles and thanks for an enjoyable game!

There’s more cricket at The Green this afternoon as we host Stewart’s Melville 3 for our fourth ESCA league match of the season. The game starts at 1pm and the bar will be open!

Last night’s T20 match was sponsored by St. Boswells Mowers and we would like to say a huge thank you to them for their support, and to all our other sponsors and our supporters who braved the chill last night and came along to support the team.
