2,800 Squats Challenge for Teenage Cancer Trust

Our fabulous U14’s and U15’s have just completed their challenge of 2,800 Squats to raise funds to help ensure no young person faces cancer alone. Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity that provides specialised nursing care and support for young people with cancer.

Along with congratulating our teams for this huge achievement, we would also like to thank all of those who generously donated what you could and helped them smash their target, raising £385!!! Amazing 🤩

We would also like to thank Vix, the teams fitness and strength and conditioning coach who drove this fundraiser, guiding the teams through their challenge.

Your donation, big or small, will make a huge difference.

Thank you!

Today our U15’s travelled to Rottingdean after a huge lapse in games due to bad weather. It was great to be back and the lads seemed up for the challenge. The team had been working hard on quick link up passing and pressing strategies to force turnovers so it was a good opportunity for them to put it to practice this weekend.

It was a close game for the first fifteen minutes where both teams wanted that first point on the scoresheet but after an excellent denial by Rottingdeans keeper in what was a great Raiders free kick, Raiders managed to break the deadlock with a goal from a penalty. This is when the lads really started to grab hold of the game and dominate play.

Communication was top today, allowing them to work passes through the opposition, force mistakes and chase down every ball. A really great performance from everyone in what resulted in a well deserved 0-6 win to Raiders.

A special mention to Tom, who had his debut for Raiders today and also earned MOM for being a key transition player and for his all out energy on pitch!!

Very pleased to see the lads can take what they are learning at training and use it to put out good performances and get results. Well done!

The U14s were finally out today after a series of frustrating postponements looking to avenge a painful defeat earlier in the season from Seaford.

Seaford brought a stronger than expected team and Raiders knew they faced a stern test to extend their unbeaten run to 5.

Raiders picked an attacking side with normal winger Olly switched to full back with the brief to attack.

Raiders plans were hit with a hammer blow within a minute as Seaford took the lead fortuitously when the referee missed a clear foul on Harry F that sent him sprawling to the ground ...perhaps being too far away to get a proper view.

This could have stopped many teams as Raiders felt aggrieved. But the U14s are made of sterner stuff these days and soon got on top.

Seaford were really struggling with the fluidity of Raiders front 3 of Bradley, Blake and Vinny as all 3 went close to equalising forcing the keeper in to action.

Seaford were still dangerous and tried attacking down Raiders left but Harry F had pocketed their right winger with some sensational defending to frustrate our visitors.

Raiders got the equaliser when Blake broke free down the right and managed to loop one past the Seaford keeper and deservedly put us level.

The match was a real battle with two teams going toe to toe.

Raiders had attacking intent and were on top only to be undone by a counter as the tall striker powered clear and slotted past Riley.

With the game end to end both keepers made good saves as the 4th goal was looking more and more crucial.

Raiders won a corner with time ticking on the first half. Bradley somehow managed to find some space and slotted home to give Raiders another deserved equaliser as the half finished 2-2.

Seaford looked a little shell shocked and had clearly not expected to be challenged by a determined Raiders.

The second half was a proper slug fest with great battles all over the pitch.

Both teams played a little more direct and set pieces looked the most likely source of a goal with both teams going close from corners.

Seaford then thought they had scored a goal of the season contender when they hit an arrow in from 30 yards.
The ref inexplicably ruled the ball had hit post and come out with confusion on the pitch.

Raiders with an almighty let off maybe ...but after Seafords first was incorrectly ruled a goal a sense of karma prevailed.

Seaford kept pressing and hit the woodwork again from a speculative shot as Raiders looked to be tiring.

Seaford then scored from 40 yards out ... still not sure if he meant it now...but if they did it was a special goal.

A tired Raiders had to galvanise themselves again. With key player Jenson hobbling off too Raiders could have thought their race was run.

Yet somehow Raiders kept coming. Defending like terriers and springing forward quickly Raiders looked the more likely.

Both Harry's had gone close from corners and Raiders managed to force one more as we entered the last 10 minutes.

This time another pinpoint ball from Ben found Vin unmarked to head in powerfully giving the keeper no chance as Raiders once again pulled back level.

Both teams pushed for a winner and Aston in particularly won ball after ball to stop Seaford getting through.

With minutes left on the clock Raiders were given the chance to win the match as Bradley was fouled 25 yards out.

Unfortunately Bradley couldn't add to his tally this time which would have been the icing on a superb performance from him.

The referee finally brought the game to an end with 2 exhausted teams sharing the spoils 3-3 in what was a bit of a classic.

Raiders were superb. They showed resilience and real character coming back 3 times in the match and extending their unbeaten run to 5.

No man of the match this week. Every member had performed brilliantly and it was just too difficult picking just one!

A performance to be really proud of for the U14s

Our U14’s were finally back in action against Seagulls, looking to inject momentum back into the season after a frustrating period of postponements. The 14’s had lost their mojo a little, but after a good performance in an unlucky draw just before Christmas they were ready to kick on in 2026.

Motivation was high against a Seagulls team that had got one over on Raiders earlier in the season in a match where everything had gone against the Raiders. Raiders started new recruit Blake, who had impressed in training and had a plan to nullify Seagulls main threats whilst getting on the front foot and playing attacking football. Raiders started really well. Not letting Seagulls have a second on the ball and were finding a lot of joy down the left flank through Harry who fired narrowly wide early on.

Seagulls were really struggling to cope with Raiders midfield as Raiders dominated. Ben and Brogan were threading balls at will. Jenson was controlling the game and the front 3 were looking dangerous. If Seagulls did break then they couldn't beat the back 4 with Harry F, Vinny, Hayden and Woody winning their individual battles. Raiders finally got their reward when the keeper couldn't cope with Ollie’s cross that ended up in the back of the net! Minutes later from a new corner routine Jenson was unlucky as he smashed the ball against the woodwork. Ben then fired wide arriving at the back post when he probably should have scored as Rampant Raiders went in to half time 1-0.

The message was clear for the second half. Keep the work rate up and don't let Seagulls back in. Raiders got the message. Aston who had come on late first half was a pest. Hassling Seagulls, winning the ball consistently and moving the ball forwards quickly. were getting frustrated and were limited to shots from distance as they struggled to create. No such problems for Raiders who went close through Patrick with the keeper saving at his feet when poised to finish and Olly a constant menace down the right. Raiders thought they had sealed the win when Bradley took off acrobatically for a bicycle kick from an Olly cross for what would have been a sensational goal ...only for the keeper to push away and ruin the fun. Raiders were closing the game out brilliantly and finally put the game out of reach of Seagulls as Blake charged the keeper down after a scramble and got the debut goal his performance had deserved.

A 2-0 victory in truth was the least Raiders had deserved. It was great to see the Raiders play with a smile and with confidence and to prove what a good team they really are. Man of the match went to Aston on only his second match for a tenacious display that promises good things for the rest of the season.

Overall this was a significant performance with their mojo fully restored and looking forward to the rest of the season. A brilliant Sunday morning for the U14’s!!
