Following on from the archaeological survey Cornwall Council have insisted we investigate the whole of the site which consists of three fields to the North of East Crinnis Farm!
This would mean a 6-9 months dig with a team of archaeologist excavating the whole site. The quotes we have received for this work are around £150,000 and if any findings were discovered up to £200,000.
To explain this in detail we have already taken full Geophysics ( an X-ray of the site) of the land in 2021 and the archaeologist consultant informed us there were two sites of potential. Trench work in 2022 was extensive through the site and where they identified the potential sites, two small dwellings were found and recorded. Although not significant it was great to find and understand the history of the farm.
Everwhere else on site where there was a very slight potential the trenching and excavating work showed no findings at all during the rest of the site works in 2022.
We have been left disillusioned and quite frankly, devastated with how this decision was made. We are now stuck between a rock and hard place as to how we move forward but are determined we will find a way!
With all the developments going on around us in the St Austell area this decision is mind blowing especially when over the hedge we have big warehouses and industrial developments continuously happening.
Thanks for everyone’s continued support on our project !
