Well finally some of the lads managed to get a day out to Santa Pod on Wednesday for their first drift day of the year.

The day went on pretty smoothly for them apart from a few minor incidences.

Simons Skyline decided it didnt like to have water in the plug holes after its first run out. Quick back to the pits to sort that out, cleared the water and was mint for its next session. After said session Simon came back to the pits and had a little fire under the bonnet 🤦‍♂️ one of the vac lines had moved from earlier in the day and sat on top of the manifold. Quick sort of that and he was back out with no other issues 👌
Think its now time he invested in some lock mods to pull some bigger angles.

Shanes E36 Touring with its first time out since having a fair bit of work done and a bolt in cage added. But now transported with truck and trailer hire from Newmarket Trailers.

He finally came out on matching drift wheels but this cause a slight issue of more grip than he was used to. Tweak to the suspension and back out for some more laps.

However running wider tyres than normal, caused a tyre to delam after just catching the arch and smashing the fresh paint. Back in with a hammer and grinder and that soon sorted the low spot on the arch. Back out for some more sessions and he was smashing it. Hopefully get to see some more seat time for him this year too.

And finally, Sam made it out for his coupes debut outing. This was his first time out running some 245/40s and his new gravity performance lock kit. The 245s made for some interesting learning for him in the pens, but he soon got used to that and headed to the big track. Back into the pits after a session to check the car over and top up any fluids. He was back out and lapping well.

Now hes decided its time to start his M57 swap. So itll all be learning again when that project has been completed.

Was a good day for all there, especially after seeing the boys faces after their first sessions. Grinning from ear to ear and bringing back the love that had kinda been lost for it all over the past couple of years.

Hopefully be many more to come this year but with more of the team out to party.

Have some pics of the day from resident photographer Blackett Photography and a few from Dan Martin Media

2003 BMW Series 3 · Hatchback · Driven 166,500 kilometres

Here we have an e46 325ti Sport Compact For Sale.

We have had this car for a couple years now but its just not big enough to fit the expanding business stock into anymore.

Genuine 325ti, (not engine swapped)
Sport Bumpers
Will be 16" Alloys
Oem Exhaust System
Black Interior
Black Headliner
Cruise Control
OBC
Stereo Adjustment on steering wheel

Colour - black sapphire metal

Just had a recent minor service of spark plugs, oil, oil filter and air filter.

Is on 166,534 miles but will go up as in daily use. Its a lovely little daily driver car but just not big enough for what we need.

As can be expected there are a few marks, stone chips etc on the car being nearly 20 years old.

Has parking sensors on the rear bumper but work intermittently, havent had chance to look into the problem as never really worried about it.

Has 260+ days MOT

Its time for an Appreciation post.

This one is for Jason from J and J tyres - Sawston, cambridge and Cambridge Mobile Tyres

Known Jason for many years now. Hes been running these 2 businesses successfully for the last 10+ years. So he knows his stuff when it comes to supplying the best for your budget and takes great care fitting tyres from your daily driving to the high end exotic supercars.

Jason came on board around 5 years with sponsorship for Scott when he decided he was going to compete. Supplying and fitting all the tyres needed. Aswell as allowing the car to be setup on his 4 wheel alignment rack.

Since then the whole team has become a regular user of his companies becoming a big partner in all our driving antics.

Jason had never really been into drifting until us, but now he has his own BMW E46 Coupe that is in constant use down at Dpad Northampton with his mobile tyre crew (Polly and Charlie).

Its been good to see him get into the sport and actually see what drifting is all about. Hoping 2022 we can see them progress their driving and can get them out to party on track with the rest of Driftaway.

Go give his pages a like and follow to keep upto date with his future businesses with also being an aftermarket wheel supplier and powdercoater in cambridge

The final driver for now is Scott Robinson.

Scott has been drifting for a few years now with various practice days and a few competitions, the likes of RDC and Driftcup. The first round he competed in RDC was a good one and ended up 4th. After that there was a few competitions done but then suffered engine problems with the S50. So the car went back to a 2.8 and done some more practice days whilst a decision was made to what engine should go in next.

However in that time a nearly immaculate saloon shell came up at a price that couldn't be refused. That was bought and the engine choice happened to be a 1UZ. The M3 touring for which he was known for got scrapped as it was pretty bent after a few incidents.

The car stayed NA for a while, but then it had a huge makeover. Colour change, underside restoration, new parts and a big turbo to make it go faster. This is how it stands now. Just hoping 2022 will be better for him and he can get some seat time in the new build.

Here we have Jason Thomas, Co-Founder of Driftaway.

Jason has come from a motorsport background racing grasstrack for many years before he got into drifting. It all started from a single passenger run and from then he was hooked 😂👌

Soon after he went out and purchased an e36 compact. After returning with the car it turned out to actually be an individual spec 318ti in Santorini Blue. But back then they wasnt worth the premiums they fetch now.

The car got converted with a 328 from a low mileage MOT failed Sports coupe. Swapped the good bits over and then broke the rest for parts. He started out on very basic parts to get some seat time at our local tracks (Santa Pod, Rocki and Norfolk Arena). After getting some seat time the car was upgraded to what it is now. Seen it fair share of bumps but has been a trooper and been repaired.

Hoping to see Jason back out with the rest of the gang in 2022.

Quick run down of the Spec.

Here we have Harry Handscombe as the next driver on the team.

Harry has had the same compact for many years, just been through many style changes. To start with it was just a street car but absolutely slammed on small wheels, but now it has been made into a competition spec car running bigger wheels (which he wasnt to happy about). The 328 conversion wasnt cutting it anymore so now hes building an M52B30 strocker turbo 🤟

Out of all the times we have been drifting, we've only driven a handful of times together. Jason back when Rockingham was open and Scott when they were competing in driftcup Norfolk.

Hopefully this year we can actually get out to a practice day together and actually have some driving

The Compacts spec will be

Forged M52B30 Stroker Build
G35 Turbo
330d 6 speed
M**h Kit
Full Custom Cage With Tubular Front
Overfenders Front And Rear
Tubbed Rear Arches To Accommodate Big Semi-Slicks
Custom 210mm Rear End
Sick Aero
Livery
Sparkles Everywhere ✨

Here we have Liam Griggs as our next driver.

Liam originally came to driftaway as a customer with his original 328 compact. This mustve been one of the worst cars we had seen at the time as there was so much wrong with it. It was surprising he managed to actually drive it back from when he brought it.

We sorted all the issues but just like a bad smell he kept on coming back for more work. So what started as a customer relation, has now turned into a friendship with all the group.

The compact has been gone a few years now, so it was time he got himself another project. This time a 325 saloon that jay has been building up gradually over time. Finally yesterday it fired up for the first time after Liams £50 implulse engine ebay buy.

But here is how the car should be specced when it finally sees the road.
