Welcome to Papworth Tennis Club - a 4 court floodlight club with high ambitions & a friendly culture.

Papworth Tennis Club is a small club with high standards and big goals. It’s a very friendly club and we welcome anyone who would like to give Tennis a go! We have 4 floodlit courts and have recently extended our clubhouse to provide even better facilities for members and visitors alike. Adult social matchplay nights take place from 18:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays, with Junior matchplay taking pla

ce from 17:30-18:30 on a Monday. Coaching in Papworth Tennis Club is provided by Over & In’s Alex Doffman and Diane Cobb, offering group and individual coaching for a wide range of ages and abilities from mini tennis to advanced adults who would like to progress their skills. Junior coaching sessions run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Adult coaching currently takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday mornings.

Mixed fortunes for our men’s teams on Sunday. Our 3rd team were away at 10is Academy Ely Tennis Club who we regularly have close matches with and this time was no different with the hosts edging it 5-3 thanks to a first set tie-break. Later in the day the 1st team kept their promotion campaign on course with a home win against Gransden.

Another solid home win for our men’s 2nd team on Tuesday night in the Cambridgeshire Tennis league against Haslingfield - well done Steve, Matt, Bob and Ryan.

Tuesday was another busy evening on the courts, as Matt, Steve P, Gio and Steve F cruised to an impressive win for the men’s 2nd team against Great Shelford Tennis Club, while Theresa, Cory, Alison and Bruce suffered defeat against Longthorpe in the mixed.

Busy courts on Sunday morning with the men’s 3rd and 4th teams in Cambridgeshire Tennis league action in windy conditions. Adam, Mike, Sam and Russ contested a tough match against Cambridge Tennis Academy which ended in a draw. Meanwhile Andy, Zoran, Cory and Jamie endured some long rallies and sets to earn a first win of the season for the men’s 4th team, in a match against Needingworth Tennis Club that contained three tiebreaks with Papworth crucially winning two of them. Thanks to our opponents for a great morning of tennis.

There were mixed fortunes for our men’s teams over the weekend. On Saturday Alex L, Gio, Matt and Ryan lost a very close match 3-5 away at Love Tennis Academy for the 2nd team, before Adam, Oliver, Russ and Jamie secured a home win for the 3rd team against Buckden on Sunday morning. For the 4th team Zoran, Michal, Bruce and Stu picked up two sets in an away defeat to Cambridge Tennis Academy before Kamil, Will, John and Alex rounded the weekend off with an impressive home win against Histon on Sunday evening. Four years ago Papworth had just one men’s team in the Cambridgeshire Tennis league, now we have four with 16 different players representing the club over the weekend, marking real progress.

On Sunday we held our annual Alicante Cup tournament, where players of all ages and abilities were paired with different doubles partners throughout the day and accumulated a point for each individual game they won in mini matches consisting of eight games. The weather was warm but breezy allowing spectators to sit outside and enjoy some great tennis on show across the four courts. Matches and results were close, with several 4-4 draws, and the final statistics showed a very tight final outcome. For the ladies’ title there was a three-way tie between Susan Hoyland, Becca Graveling and Theresa Truter, while Stu Proudfoot finished just ahead of Oliver Strowgger for the men. Well done to everyone who took part and displayed the talent we have at the club, thank you to Clare Lindsay for a fabulous buffet lunch and to John Garland for organising and ensuring the event ran smoothly.

Our men’s teams had a double header against Love Tennis Academy at the weekend. On Saturday Ryan, Alex, Matt and Will claimed an impressive away win for the 2nd team to cap a perfect Cambridgeshire Tennis winter league season and maintaining a 100% win record. Then on Sunday, Olek, Dan, Martin and Russ made the most of their home advantage to claim a second win of the winter season for the 3rd team.

Three of our men’s teams were in Cambridgeshire Tennis winter league action on Sunday, and there was a victorious outcome on all fronts. Martin, Adam, Cory and Luke performed well at home against Great Shelford Tennis Club to finish the 4th team’s campaign off with a strong win, before the 1st team dealt well with freezing temperatures as Tom, Will, John and Alex beat Cambourne Tennis Club in the evening. Earlier in the day, Steve, Gio, Alex and Ryan claimed a hard fought win for the 2nd team away at Cambridge Tennis Academy to keep them on course for promotion. Well played everybody.

Well done to Sam and Bruce, and father and son pairing Alex and Archie for securing a first Cambridgeshire Tennis league win for our men’s 4th team at Cambridge Tennis Academy on Sunday.

Well done to Will Norton who made his men’s 1st team debut last weekend alongside Tom, Bob and Jim. It was a strong team performance as they overcame Buckden in a 7-1 victory.
