A few FAQs for Torbay Chess ππ»
Do I have to register to come and play?
Not atall, just turn up anytime between 6pm-9pm on Tuesdays to Anchor's Rest, Paignton Harbour. If you want to play with a certain player or type of player, let us know before you come and we can try and matchmake. π€
Is there parking?
There is free on street parking in the area from 6pm, and a council car park open until 10pm on the road behind the venue. π
Do we need to bring our own sets?
We have plenty at the venue, but if you have your lucky set, feel free to bring it! βοΈ
Is there a price to play?
Not atall, we just encourage drinks bought at the bar, with coffee, soft drinks, alcohol and snacks available. β
Is it competitive?
On the whole, no, we would more like to think of ourselves as 'informal', but we are looking to form a league team for the people who want to go further. π
How do I find a game?
You will be found if you wonder around! Unless numbers are even and everyone is playing, in which case just wait for someone else to arrive, or games to finish. By all reviews, we are a welcoming, friendly bunch of people, so you will definitely catch someone's eye! ππ½ββοΈ
What happens after the match?
It depends on how the game has gone, some players like to teach eachother afterwards if there were errors (we all want eachother to improve), and offer a rematch. There's no need to feel awkward though, a simple handshake, "well played" and move on to another opponent is perfectly fine! ππ½
Do I need to be good, or a certain age or s*x?
One of our proudest aspects of the club is the diversity we have, as long as you have enthusiasm to learn or play, we are happy to have you. π«
