MEN'S COUNTY RESULT

Unbadged Pairs – This was a bit of a one-sided game between Ray Rubery & Graham Parker and Colin Meirton & Anthony Cole. It was tough going all the way through for Colin & Anthony as their opponents piled on the pressure end after end. After fourteen ends had been completed the game was conceded by Anthony & Colin as Ray & Graham took an emphatic win 30 – 4.

Steve Brilli, Bill Deary and Andy Hall were never behind and won 31-8.

FOXLANDS RESULT...

Mens Foxlands Competition – Our ‘B’ took to the green on Tuesday night against Brixham St Mary.

Our home rink, Andy Woodward, Brian Thomas, Graham Heaven & Kevan Davey started off really well and built a decent lead but a dropped 5 on the seventh end eroded the advantage. Our lads regrouped and built up an 8 shot lead after twelve ends. It was then that all the wheels came off and we didn’t have a spare! The last six ends saw Brixham St Mary win each one and hit us with a defeat 16 – 22.

Our away rink, Mark Thomas, Gary Routledge, Eric Devonport & Alan Routledge hit the ground running in their game and built a commanding lead with the scoreboard at 17 -8 after eleven ends. End twelve saw us drop a 5 and suddenly there was a bit of a problem (overall). Thankfully or chaps regrouped quickly and controlled the closing ends with some good scoring to close the game out winning 25 – 15.

Overall score was a win 41 – 37.

OVER 55'S LEAGUE RESULT...

Our Over 55 ‘V’ team played away against Kings.

Rink 1 - Graham Ellix, Clive Geach & Bob Dunn (skip).
Rink 2 – Steve Probert, Colin Farmer & Derek Conbeer (skip).

Rain delayed the start by around 30 minutes after which it stayed dry and mostly sunny until the sixteenth end. Both rinks were then completed in wet conditions.

Derek’s rink was proving difficult, but they were reasonably competitive being only 10-9 down with six or seven ends to play. Sadly, though their concentration/ability wilted and they lost the final ends to finish losing 9 - 19.

Bob’s rink was much the same with hardly any turn on one side. We were only trailing by 7 - 9 at the halfway stage. Then the opposition scored 3 on both the eleventh and twelfth ends and from then on, we never managed to recover the deficit. Final score was 12-20.

Overall score was a loss 21 – 39, (0 – 8 points).

MEN'S MDL RESULT...

On Tuesday evening 9/6/26, the Men’s MDL ‘C’ team had their first proper away game when we visited Abbrook Park for our third game of the season, the rain held off and it was a good-natured game, but the home advantage was much in evidence.

Peter Route, John Allodi, Anthony Cole and Mick Eva played a tight game on rink 2 with some very closely disputed heads and we kept the score fairly close up to tenth end at 6-8. Unfortunately, Abbrook then just managed to widen the gap and we ended up losing 11-16.

Ross Whittington, Neil Chapman, Martin Day and Colin Meilton started off well, taking an early lead, but Abbrook then managed to get two 4 shot ends to even up and then pull away from the seventh end and couldn’t be caught, we lost 15-24.

Andy Hall, Graham Ellix, Martin Dancer and Ian Sealy had an uncharacteristically bad night and never really found their form. They managed to stay relatively close until the eighth but then Abbrook started scoring multiple shots and managed to pull away with a final score of 9-27.

Tony Powell, Andy Sleep, Bernie Coombe and Phil Blyth got off to a good start, had a tussle up to the sixth end and then scored a 3 and never looked back, pulling away with a few more multiple scores of 3 and 4 to end up winning 24-10, a great performance and getting us our 2 points for the night.

End result 59 - 77 to Abbrook so match points were 2-12.

Thanks to Andy Hall, John Allodi and Colin Meilton for subbing up for us, we play Abbrook Park again at home next week on Monday the 15th and we will aim to reverse the result.

LADIES SDLBL 'B' RESULT...

Our Ladies SDLBL ‘B’ team have just played a match against Bitton Park (at Bitton Park).

Wendy Bull, Sharon Rawlins & Pat Sutherby had a real tussle in their game. Despite falling behind early on, they battled back and the game could have gone either way. With just one end to play the score was tied at 12 shots apiece. A tense final end was played out and we picked up a solitary shot to close out with a win 13 – 12.

Barbara Coley, Pauline Lewis & Elaine Paske started briskly, scoring on the first three ends. Unfortunately, they only scored on four more ends after this with their opponents scoring heavily more often than not when they won an end. Sadly, our girls fell to a defeat 9 – 25.

Carol McCarthy, Denise Ormerod & Chris Gibbons held their opponents well in check for the first eleven ends of this game before losing six consecutive ends where 15 shots were scored against us. Despite picking up 3 on the final end we bowed out with a defeat 13 - 21

Final score was a loss for us 35 – 58 (2 – 8).

MEN'S FOXLANDS RESULT...

Men’s Foxlands Competition – Our ‘A’ Team were in action on Monday night playing against Paignton ‘A’.

Ray Rubery, Bill Deary, Andy Pearson & James Phillips played away and had a difficult start in their match trailing their opponents on the scoreboard for the first fifteen ends. Picking up 4 shots on the sixteenth end really helped and put them ahead for the first time. The final two ends saw the shot count shared so we took the win 14 – 13. Great comeback.

Our home rink of Steve Brilli, Clive Geach, Bob Dunn & Dave Sutherby had a better time of it overall. They still had a slow start falling 8 shots behind early on. Picking up 5 shots on both ends seven and eight really changed the game and thereafter we really took control. Consistent scoring meant we posted an excellent win 25 – 10.

Overall score meant a superb win for us 39 – 23.

COUNTY RESULT...

Men’s Championship Pairs – Alan & Gary Routledge suffered a difficult night against a pair from Torquay (at Torquay). Try as they might nothing worked for them and they fell to a defeat 8 – 20.
