While the festive season is often filled with lights, laughter and celebration, we know it can also be a very difficult time for many. It’s a season that invites reflection — on the year just gone, on what’s been lost, what’s changed, and the challenges that may have felt heavier than expected.

If this year has been a tough one, please know you’re not alone. It’s okay if Christmas feels quieter, harder, or different this time. Be gentle with yourself and take things at your own pace.

As we look ahead to a new year, we hope the coming months bring moments of peace, comfort, and kindness — even in small ways. May you find warmth in connection, strength in getting through each day, and hope in the knowledge that brighter days can still lie ahead.

Wishing you a Christmas filled with compassion, understanding, and whatever you need most right now. 🎄🎅🏻💕

Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Although it is an extremely important day to celebrate the one in five persons that are disabled. I think in the current climate we are living in it is becoming increasingly scary to those of us with disabilities to wonder what the future might hold for us.

I was born with a congenital condition called Holt Oram Syndrome. Which resulted in me having cardiac issues and limb difference. Although I have been extremely lucky to be born into the Family that I have it has not always been easy to navigate a world that is not always designed for us. Having to fight for basic things to be implemented!

The main constant I have referred back to during the best and tough times of my life have always been the horses. The horses give me a freedom that I do not experience in any other aspect of my life. They do not judge, they do not hate and they certainly do not make you feel like you are existing in the world that is not made for you.

‼️TRIGGER WARNING! ‼️

Friday 13th wouldn’t usually be a date you would opt to have surgery but after 8 years of nerve pain and a 5 year NHS wait I was taking it!
After countless tests, X-rays, scans and large amount of money spent on all kinds of “therapies” and not to mention the boxes and boxes of medication I really was at the end of my tether. The impact of living with chronic pain has been enormous. On my quality of life and not to mention my mental health. Due to my unique anatomy as a result of Holt Oram Syndrome meant there was no “expert” and in some cases no consultants willing to take my case on. When asked about my symptoms I always said “my arm feels like it is on fire and my neck feels like there is something in there”. One of my appointments involved 8 consultants in one room. As a result of this I ended up having exploratory surgery at Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital on Friday 13th June. I was under the impression I was going to have cervical rib removal but the reality was very different…..

It turns out that I had scalene muscle that had grown in the wrong place, lots of scar tissue built up in the muscle fascia as a result of riding accidents and the fact my right arm does 90% of the work day to day and the muscle fascia was also damaged. All of this had been badly decompressing my brachial plexus. As can be seen from the before and after.

The first few weeks following surgery were very dark and so painful. Not to mention an additional allergic reaction to the dressing adhesive which had burned my skin. I have been blown away by the messages, cards, flowers, care packages and not to mention the visitors. Who took time to come see me around their busy schedules. Also to those who still come to take me on “day release” as I still am unable to drive. Not to mention my colleagues within FIU too. 💕💕

We have also experienced a close bereavement in our family all within 6 weeks post surgery. It has been “quite the time” for us. With Mummy P at the heart of it keeping us all going. 💕💕.

I am so grateful to the NHS for their amazing service with my surgery. RNOH is incredible. I still have a way to go in terms of rehab but I am very grateful to those that have supported me through this very difficult time.

Plus a mention to King Louis 🐱 who has not left my side and got me through the dark hours of the night when everything seems so much worse. He of course has no idea about any of this and is focusing on the next cat pepperami! He’s not been with me long but I couldn’t imagine a life without him now.

Can’t decide who is cuter? Laddie or Mabel .thegsp Really loved being back on Lad today after a long week away between hospitals and working. Very lucky to have a great team to keep things going whilst I’m away working. ❤️❤️

19 years ago I picked up this guy who changed my life forever! ❤️❤️❤️. Multiple international and national titles along the way. You’ve been my light in the bleakest of times but you’ve also been the reason for my tears at times 🤣🤣. 29 years old this year. You’ve been with me from teenage years to adulthood. Bestest little red pony! ❤️❤️❤️
