🇬🇧 One of the last roe bucks from a couple of months ago. I'd had my eye on this buck for two years, knowing he wouldn't stay at this size forever. After a long and exciting stalk with a good friend, we were able to shoot him and inspect his condition. His teeth were well worn so he would have declined quickly in the coming year, and questionable whether he could hold a territory against the other mature bucks in the area. I hadn't been able to see much activity on this property through the summer since a lot of it has wild bird seed mixes still standing now. N

I just love a good roe buck!

Another super buck from this year, a small window of opportunity and a competent operator made the plan come together.

🇸🇪 🥈Another roe buck from recent weeks, this one was shot with a guest and a friend, on a sunny may morning.

We've made some good memories together whilst stalking over the years, for sure!

Would you be happy with a buck like this to look back on?

🇬🇧 Last year I hadn't been able to catch up with a big buck 150 metres from this ones final resting place.

I strongly suspect it is the same beast, and what a top specimen from May 2025

I was kindly asked to accompany a good friend on the roe bucks this week up north. I had a great time with great company. But I also had a really good buck pictured here.

We set off on the second morning, and were trying to pursue another buck who had been patrolling his territory rather swiftly. The first buck made too much ground and then disappeared into gauze bushes. We got into a high ground vantage point, and patiently gave the buck chance to reveal himself. That was the last we saw of him. But as we tried to spot on the far side of the bank and the gauze, there was another buck but way out the other side of the sand pits. It was obvious he was mature, but from the distance at that time we couldn't tell too much more. The terrain was all open sand and grassland between us, and he was quite happy sitting and when he did walk it was short bursts before sitting again. So he wasn't moving far, and we couldn't cover ourselves to work into him.

A short drive round to another part of the estate, where we could come in onto of him in a belt of trees. Stalking through the belt a couple of huhdred meters, I was able to find a gap in the edge to give me clear shot out into the grassland.

I got into position on the styx, and had to decide quickly if a shot could be taken because now he was moving and I only had a small window to see.

I shot, the reaction was textbook. A peaceful harvest. And when I got over to the buck, I was humbled by his assets, the symmetry, the even weight distribution and a lovely golden colour. This buck is definatly one of my favourites.

Every trophy tells a story and some aren't as elaborate as others. But this one I will remember

What an evening, with 2 fallow pickets walking in the field behind the steel buck target the plan was modified and we tried to get into those, being the last day of their open season. We managed to get into 50 metres, they both presented but the guest wasn't ready, and that's ok if you're not comfortable, there's always another day. It was still early doors and very warm...

Back to plan A, where we came into a fine roebuck in woodland, about 40 metres away, partially obscured by a pen fence. The shot would have been tricky threading the round through a fence, so we waited. He cleared the fence obstruction, but by then we were losing a safe backstop, and he began to bark not being sure about us. So we had to leave him too.

Another big roebuck crept into a spinney some time later and he was what we call top tier, so not the match for the target quarry of the evening. A fine buck to observe.

And right on last knocking we spot 2 roe, unable to s*x at the range they were, we swiftly made ground along the darkening hedge line, to within 70 to 80 metres of these 2 roe.
One being a mature buck, that fitted the bill, we got into a position on the sticks and were lucky enough that he couldn't make us out completely with the failing light. With 5 mins of daylight to spare we had the right angle present and there was our window!

again 110gr ttsx, doing their job perfectly.

made it possible to hold our position comfortably while the buck presented a clean harvest.

I've had some really good results recently trialing some new ammunition.
in this photo ttsx 110 grain, super in my rifle.
also very good, but still finding the best formula.
also looked promising
yet to try, although it will be very soon their time.

These monlithic bullets retain the vast majority of their weight which means the meat is not affected by small metallic fragments. It is an industry wide move away from lead in the UK. This will help safeguard our way of life and sustainable harvests.

Personally I've shot mostly copper bullets for the last few years in .308, and I can't really say that the results have been any different to conventional rounds. I've been impressed by many, providing the weight wasn't on the heavy end for calibre they all seem to group and perform quite suitably.
