After a day of childcare with our grandchildren combined with getting soaked at every opportunity - today I felt the need to be a bit more dressy. Sometimes I am comfortable dressing very casually. Today isn’t one of those days!
Yesterday a parcel from Kettlewell arrived and I was excited to try the contents. Et voila!

A Short Cascade Wrap in Aqua Surf and a sleeveless Darcy top in aquamarine. My skirt is from Vinted and also arrived yesterday! I first had one of these over 15 years ago but it tore 😩. As soon as I spotted this one, I was clicking the ‘buy now’ link.
I love the colours and slightly swishy feel! Happy me 😊

Sunshine is forecast for the weekend which I hope everyone gets chance to enjoy ☀️

Today was Chiltern Hills Connect, the networking group
I co host with Amanda Claesens.

Another fab meeting learning about a day in the life of the amazing Clare Cogan and about Helen Steel’s new venture 4XPaws.

With rubbish weather around atm, I chose orange, one of my favourite colours!
Tangerine cotton jumper from Kettlewell, palazzo cotton culottes from M&S, and a lovely scarf from Fashion by Sarah Lonergan.

I felt great … until the heavens opened and I got soaked !🌧️☔️

THE WORST THING

The worst thing you can be is not fat,
or ugly,
or stupid.

The worst thing you can be,
is not different,
or awkward,
or ‘too much’.

The worst thing you can be,
unequivocally,
is locked in a prison of your own self-doubt,
riddled with insecurities,
afraid to venture out into this life,
lest the world see who you really are.

In short,
the worst thing you can be,
is someone else.

When you were only ever meant to be

you.

Are you like me and rather happy the weather's cooled down, for now anyway?

Do you feel that some of your style disappears when the temperatures rise?

In the hotter weather it's easy to abandon structure in place of airy comfort whether it suits us or not; we might even wear clothes we’d never entertain the idea of any other time of the year. And it can all feel just a bit off.
The goal isn’t just to stay cool, it’s to still feel like you.

When the temperature rises we cast off layers that give structure and interest because they add warmth which we definitely don't want! Some of our favourite fabrics don't work and even your ‘go to’ jeans can feel far too heavy when it's very hot. .

Whatever the reason you find Summer dressing hard the solution is out there to be found. We’re all different so our solutions will also vary. Here's some top tips for stylish summer dressing without the compromise.

1. Fabric first
Fabric really does matter if keeping cool is a priority. Where possible opt for linen or linen blends, cotton, lightweight viscose or jersey fabrics. Go for breathable tailoring if you need to maintain a smart look - for work maybe. Avoid clingy fabrics or polyester which won't help regulate your body temperature.

2. Clean cuts
It’s easy to go for looser cuts but these don’t need to be completely shapeless. Look for styles that drape effortlessly and create a cleaner silhouette. Follow the same principles you normally would for balancing your body’s natural proportions. Items can still have structure at the shoulders (and waist if that works for you) whilst draping around the lower body.

If you would normally favour oversize items then this will work well as they can still look elevated when styled with the right accessories for you. Good examples of this could be wide leg trousers with a fitted top or conversely an oversized shirt with structured shorts.
If oversize is not your usual preference then leave it alone.

There are lots of dresses around this year so find one that works well for your shape and style profile. If dresses are not your thing try matching co-ord sets in colours from your seasonal palette. You can’t beat a bit of swish for elegance and an airy feel on a hot dayso think about movement in your skirts and trousers.

3. Accessories create polish
The simplest outfit is immediately elevated with the right accessories. Easy additions to your outfit, without compromising on staying cool, could include metallic sandals, woven or canvas bags, a pair of statement sunglasses, jewellery of course and belt detail if that works for you. Elasticated woven belts need not feel restrictive.

Summer style should feel effortless, not frustrating. Nail your style and build a wardrobe that works for you whatever the weather.

Find a formula that works for you time after time. If you need help with this then that’s what I'm here for.

I've gained quite a few new followers recently so I thought it might be helpful to say a little bit about me!

After a wonderful career across HR departments of the John Lewis Partnership & Waitrose Head Offices, in 2017 I trained with House of Colour as a Personal Stylist and Image Consultant, using my experience as a qualified Coach and love of colour and clothes.

Since 2024, I have worked independently running my Style 4 Life Coaching business. I provide colour and styling consultations from my home in Lewknor, on the Oxfordshire border with Buckinghamshire, where I live with my husband and two King Charles Cavaliers!

I use colour analysis and personal style to guide people of all ages, shapes and sizes on a journey of self-reflection and rediscovery. The result? Confident people with the courage to be visible, stay true to their core values and who they really are.

Over the years, my own size and weight has fluctuated so I appreciate the benefits of understanding how to dress for the shape and size I am. Live the best life you can - today - is my motto!

I believe in sharing with others the skills to make a real difference to their self-worth on the inside and perceived worth to others externally. In short, to be the very best version of themselves and step out of the crowd, into their own space with a focus on feeling great inside and out!

An award-winning Coach, I’m also a Coaching Supervisor, a qualified in Time to Think Coach and Thinking Environment® Facilitator and a Master NLP Practitioner. I support The Style and Colour Academy with a coaching & mentoring programme for newly trained image consultants and continue with my private, individual coaching practice.

I also co-host a monthly Networking group ( we meet in High Wycombe) so if you're local, do get in touch and arrange to pop along.

Meanwhile, Happy Sunny Bank Holiday! ☀️🌞🌟

Sunshine coming ☀️
Heatwave and a Bank Holiday ☀️☀️

I’ve finally sorted my summer wardrobe. And linen features a LOT!!

Linen can divide the room. For some, it’s the ultimate summer luxury, breathable and effortless. For others, it’s the crumpled shirt they vow to never wear again.

But here’s the thing. Linen isn’t trying to be perfect. It’s relaxed and comes into its own as the warmer days arrive.

Made from the fibres of the Flax plant, it’s one of the oldest textiles in the world. It has a beautiful, slightly textured finish and a relaxed drape that conveys the ‘I just threw this on’ elegance. It earns its place in a summer wardrobe when temperatures rise, ideal for hot days when synthetic fabrics are a non starter.

Its sustainability credentials are noteworthy.
-Flax requires less water than cotton
-It can grow in poor soil conditions without heavy chemical use
-Almost every part of the plant is used, reducing waste
-It’s biodegradable and long lasting

Why do people ( like me) love linen?
-Keeps you cool without compromising on style
-Has a relaxed, effortless style
-Pairs beautifully with natural textiles and various colour palettes
-Feels elevated without being overdone

Why others loathe it ( and they’re not wrong!!) Let’s accept the fact that linen creases 😩.
-It wrinkles easily - sometimes within minutes of sitting down
-It can look messy if not styled intentionally
-It doesn’t always hold its structure

As I see it, linen isn’t meant to be pristine. Its charm is the softness and movement. If you accept and like that, it’s easy to wear.

Linen is everywhere this summer

So, is it your summer essential … or a styling nightmare!

This is my collection - no doubting my love of Linen! ❤️

I absolutely love being associated with the Style & Colour Company.
The Academy supports newcomers to the world of Colour Analysis and Styling and me being able to offer coaching and mentoring to these new business owners is truly heartwarming.

Understanding how impactful colour and style is to an individual was life changing for me, both personally and in leading to a whole new profession. Setting up my Style4Life Coaching business is one of the most exciting chapters of my career. And, the cherry on top of that is providing new consultants and stylists with the coaching & mentoring support to establish thriving and successful businesses in thir own right.

Spreading the word about self confidence, being visible and most important of all, feeling great about just being YOU. ❤️
