Autumn term has well and truly begun! 🍂
We are officially back for our second term at Love Dance Academy. 😍
100 students aged 2-12 walked through our doors and we were blown away by their energy, hard work, creativity and incredible dancing! 🙌 We can't believe we have grown to an academy of 100 dancers already! THANK YOU to each and every family for choosing us. ❤️
But what do we actually cover in the first weeks of a new term? ⬇️
Establishing class structure, etiquette and boundaries (this helps students feel at ease and know what to expect). ✅
Getting to know each other. I ask students about their holidays, their first week of school and more. I encourage them to get to know their peers through partner exercises and games. 👫
Understanding the space- how we stand in the centre, how to move across the floor in corner work, how we take turns, finding our spaces for routines (spend time getting this in check now and thank me later). 🫶
Technique BASICS (teaching or reminding students of their basic positions of the legs and arms, engagement of the core and correct posture, use for the feet and so on... Once these are engrained, then we can grow). 🌱
Warm up and why it matters (so students actually understand WHY they have to warm up). 🌡️
Strength and conditioning (but make it FUN). An essential aspect of training to establish from day one. 💪
Creative movement. This is a non negotiable for week one. We plan age appropriate creative activities for all students so they can let loose during class. They've likely had A LOT of focus with their first week of a new school year, so give them a moment to just be free with no limits and no rules. 🌈
Careful planning = a successful and smooth start to the term AND happy students 😍🙌
