You really can’t come to Teddy Hall and not try rowing, no previous experience is required, just tonnes of enthusiasm! For new rowers Michaelmas term will be spent teaching you the basics and preparing you to race in Christ Church novice regatta. After the Christmas vacation you will then train with the senior team in preparation for Torpids and Summer Eights bumps races, with our most senior boat
s, M1 and W1, competing at the highest level in Division 1. Eights in particular is by far the biggest sporting event in the Oxford calendar, even one of the largest amateur sporting events in the country. For most this represents a unique opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a top sports star, performing in front of thousands of spectators, you may even find yourself racing against Olympic medallists. Don’t worry if this sounds too serious, there will be a number of boats to cater for your intended level of commitment. At Teddy Hall we are fortunate to have one of the best-supported boat clubs on the river, both in terms of riverbank cheering (where we truly do have the loudest boathouse) but also with generous financial backing. This backing allows us to benefit from excellent facilities, with a fleet of quality boats based in our newly refurbished boathouse. You will also have access to top coaching with OUBC standard coaches or similar. The boat club is extremely active both on and off the water, with regular crewdates and organised rowing drinks, special post-race dinners each term – Summer Eights dinner is a particular highlight of the year, as well countless other activities and events. If you choose to row at Teddy Hall then you’ll become part of a close knit team, where the strong friendships made will last you a lifetime. For more information, get in contact with:
