Swing Dance Summertown is a dance society dedicated to teaching The Lindy Hop and running events which celebrate music and dance of the the Golden Age of Jazz through the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.

Join us in Summertown tonight and learn to Charleston.
Swing Dance Summertown Dance Classes are back tonight (Wednesday 17th June 2026) with the start of a brand new Charleston block of dance classes.
The evening starts at 7:30pm at :
The Cherwell School South Site, Marston Ferry Road, Oxford, OX2 6UX.
We start with the Beginner's Class after which we will have a practice session before moving onto the Intermediate Class, and then we will finish with Social Dancing until around 10:20pm.
A night of dancing costs just £6 for members and £10 for Non-Members with a special offer for anyone joining us for the first time.

Also coming up over the next month we have not one but two social dance events that we think you will love.

On Saturday 27th June 2026 it’s Big Band Jazz Swing Night in Oxford at Speakeasy Live. This is the second of our Summertown Speakeasy Live - Jazz Swing & Dance evenings for 2026 featuring a full Big Band Swing Orchestra. Tickets are on-sale now for an evening of live music & dancing with The Bob Cutting Big Band. Bob is no stranger to the Miller sound having played with The Miller Orchestra when it was run by Herb Miller, Glenn’s brother. Oxford will swing to the Miller sound again with a full Jazz Swing Orchestra & the sounds of the classic Jazz Swing era of the '30s and '40s. Their sound celebrates the music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Bennie Goodman, and the great Glenn Miller.
Join us for The Big Saturday Dance Night Out for another spectacular night of Jazz Swing Music & Social Dancing.
We start at 8:00pm and the music plays until 11:00pm.

Our patrons tell us that The Speakeasy is a special place with a sound system that fills its ballroom sized dance floor. Custom made Art Deco ambient lighting provide a vintage feel. There is Free Parking, and our snacks table features everything from treats, healthy options and ‘free-from. We also provide tea, coffee and squash all included in your entry price. We do not provide a cash bar but you are free to bring in any other refreshments you wish.

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Wednesday Class for Week-9 of our Structured Lindy Hop & Charleston Swing Dance course for Summer 2026. It was also the final class of the current block. Next week we move onto Charleston footwork and step patterns.
Our Intermediate dancers have been looking at Swing Out variations over the last few weeks and we continued with more Hollywood style variations to the Whip. This all gives your dancing a series of different dynamics for the dance floor and we were really pleased to see so many of our dancers 'getting-it'. Join us every week until 8th July for more classes with great combination moves.

Come dancing tonight (Wednesday 10th June 2026) as we continue with Week-9 of our new term of Swing Dance Summertown Lindy Hop & Charleston Dance Classes.

Swing Dance Summertown is a not-for-profit member organisation which is run completely by volunteers. We have some of the most experienced teachers around and love to dance.

Last night was a special class at Summertown as we introduced our Beginner's into some really quite developed moves, and were overjoyed to see the results. Everyone did amazingly well.

Our Intermediate dancers have been looking at Swing Out variations over the last few weeks with standard Back exits and Savoy exits. Last night we developed this to look at a Hollywood style variation known as the Whip. it is really about changing the dynamic of a Swing Out rather than being a different move but the result is very eye catching.

We will be developing the standard Dean Collins Whip next week to add in some very cool variations. Everyone interested should join us next week on Wednesday 10th June.
